Author’s Note

“Fight your way through an office block deep in enemy territory. This is my first map, so any criticism is appreciated. It’s a pretty short map, it should take around 5-6 minutes to complete without any deaths. I also recommend you play on hard. Contains assets from episode 2, so you’ll get errors if you play on any other game.”

  1. Phillip says Play It!

Visually, at least the outside, this looked like a good map. I was quite excited, but that turned to almost disappointment pretty quickly. The author seems to have simply made the enemies come running at you and you can pick them off quite easily.

Once inside, it seems that he or she decided to simply have rooms connected with multiple doorways to allow the enemies to come at you from various direction.

Now, if you read above, which I assume you have since you are reading this, you would think I really didn’t like it and that’s not true.

I enjoyed the challenge and it certainly wasn’t the worst EP2 SP map I’ve played.

I did get a little annoyed when the door to the main building locked, but that’s not unusual in short maps where mappers haven’t found real or interesting ways to control the player’s movement.

All in all, I say Play It!, I’m quite sure most will enjoy it.

  2. It says the map was released in ‘123 July 2018’. Just wanted to point it out.

This was a decent, short, combat-based map that could be worth your time. The mapping is mostly good, but there some few issues I noticed. The combat was great, and the whole map was fun to play through, however I had a personal issue with the map’s design. I understand the basic concept of the map is to go through a building to kill some Combines, but the way that they were placed indicated that it wasn’t necessary to go through every single room of the building, meaning that you could sit in a room and wait for the Combines to come so you can slaughter them. That means that the player will see less and less of the map, if he chooses to.

To the mapper, I think you could fix this by adding more Combines, but I’m pretty sure there are other ways to fix this. Don’t be discouraged though, because your map is really damn good for a first and I’ve definitely played much worse.

Also, it’s a great thing that the author (Space Cop) included the .vmf file, so mapping experts can tell him what’s wrong. I would definitely recommend doing that if you plan to make a first map.

  4. Maybe?

I kinda agree with Phillip but not so much positivity. It did start out quite nice but I also didn’t feel the map was laid out good enough so I could use more stealth, so it was just a shootout. But this was the best part as it was just interlinked rooms after that and was fun for a minute but soon got boring. It’s pretty good for a first map but I guess I’ve just played better. I hope Space Cop continues on because the potential is certainly there. Worth a play but nothing I’ll keep on my hdd as is. Sorry :/

  5. Avoid It!

I played at hard difficulty as recommended and it wasn’t fun at all. Too many enemies with no cover, empty big rooms with a lot of closed doors that at first i thought i was in maze or something.
    Avoid it.

    Play It Later

I took my time and looked around. You could do it in five minutes if you want to.

I think having the combine seek you out worked in part of the map, but not others. The last part it was good as you were having to watch you back. The first and second part, you could just wait and pick them off.

A good first map, I can’t wait to see what is next.

Save it for when you are bored, it will pass a little time for you.

  7. Play It Later

Hey! I’ve played this map last month! Glad to see it here!

This is a relaxing map to play without doubts. It has a great gameplay flow with a nice touching HL2 environment outside only. The indoors, however, could have a bit more visual improvements and details. The placement of the enemies is alright, same as the number of weapons and ammo. I’m very impressed this is a first map! Amazing start I must say!

  8. Play It Later

My views are much the same as most. Its one of the best basic first time maps I’ve played in a long time. Its just the letdown inside compared to the visual ‘promise’ of the opening scene outside. I liked the idea of enemies coming at me from multiple directions. But then it became repetitive.

  9. Play It Later

Thought that it was a good with fast moving play overall. Would have like to be able to move into other rooms.

    Think Twice

Well this slightly beats a huge open arena map which I just played, but only just. It’s as straightforward a map as there is, you just walk through some rectangular rooms in rectangular buildings and fight the Combine that rush you.

That’s about it. There’s unfortunately nothing clever or interesting about this map. All it can do is maybe distract you for a few minutes.

  11. Personal Favourite

Best combat i had in a long time! Quickly charging through non-linear building whlie hearing the footsteps of the enemies, which can come from multiple doors. The layout of the rooms is simple, which is good, so you do not get lost and the speed I build up while playing the map did not get interrupted, which is rare. Usually I am not a big fan of giving the player lots of ammo, but here it motivated me to quickly switch weapons and shoot with whatever weapon i liked to.

    Play It Now!

Maybe the recommendation before me affects and bias mine one. But I guess, despite this map is very, very short. The spaces are pretty well used and the enemies as well, they are pretty well distributed within the map.

That makes in this map, combat to be quite entertaining because is not predictable and absolutely non-linear. It’s actually very cool that almost every door can be opened in this map, and also you have to combat in a strategic way because the CMB units can strike on you almost in every possible direction. So that makes you have to think clever every move and not to be static, as you can also take the layout of the map on your favor.

Overall this was a quite nice little map with very cool strategic combat to be entertained in very sweet 15 minutes.

  13. Play It Later

The big highlight of this mod is definitely the combat; the shooting feels good and there are plenty of enemies to put your bullets in.
The level design is good in the outside area at the start, but when indoors it becomes more basic.
This is a good mod to pass the time, it’s a lot of fun.

  14. Maybe?

It’s just a shooting map travel from place to place kill enemies and escape by the underground

design is basic and repetitive but still correct combats are fun and there are no puzzles

    that’s it

  15. Maybe?

Maps are a little bland. The combine, once they are alerted to your presence on a floor, they all rush your position. After the firefight with about a dozen of them, you walk the floor to find it empty of any combine. Better triggers would have help this mod. Worth a play through.

  16. Play It Later

While the combat is fun, everything else look bland tbh. Especially the indoors are blocky, no puzzles, and very short. If you’re into run and gun type of maps, this one is for you.

  17. Play It Later

I wanted more, but I was given a 5 minute map. Very confusing layout, but I was too focused on the soldiers to even care really. I just kept camping in corners and waiting for the to come around. I did get my karma because I got stuck in one area and died a few times with a pistol in my hand,

There is one thing I hated that really caused me to die a lot. The freaking fade in after every reload. I don’t understand why games do that. It’s not necessary.

Play it later when you have time.
