Be warned: this is a VERY short map. Took me less than 3 minutes to play.
But, that sort of thing doesn’t really bother me too much. I kn ow most of you love the long mods but sometimes you need a “coffee break” map. I think it might have been more fun to set it at dusk or dawn, or maybe even in a tunnel (but then what would be the final foe?), to avoid it looking so repetitive.
So, onto the level. It’s exactly as the title and screenshots say: a train. You have to work your way through it and kill almost everything in your way. I suppose one challenge could be to get to the end without killing anything but I am not sure that possible (besides the last foe, of course).
Now, it’s a Guildhall release which means it’s a portfolio piece and as such was only ever designed to display the author’s ability not necessarily be the greatest playable level.
If features various doors movements and apparently took 50 hours to complete.
All in all, quite fun and as part of something bigger may have been a nice change.
5 Word Review
More fun than your commute!
I liked it,,
not enough mods with trains 😉
Oh really? I say not enough mods with airplanes.
Im liking the daily releases… did u find a job lot of these?
Kind of. bobdog and I have a little friendly running battle between us as to who can post the newest Guildhall releases. He beat me this time but I got the exclusive on the Quest one, as I happened to get an email back from the author.
Each cohort normally gets releases around the same time, so it’s common to have these Guildhall releases as a bunch.
I’m glad to partner on these little endeavors — the more maps we each find, the better it is overall for us gamers! 🙂
Looks interesting. Might have to check it out to see how closely it resembles my own train experiment: http://youtu.be/5lMXPRhcJ0g
Me too bro!

Hey will u release this as a mod??
U really should, I liked
And yet another SMU frantic five minutes, well not really that frantic and less than five minutes, but it was fun while it lasted!!!
I suspect the author got the idea from the 2000 game, Soldier of Fortune, the second mission was based on a train where you fought your way forward to disarm a nuke, there was a chopper in it but I don’t remember if you got to shoot it down.
As a portfolio piece, like most Guildhall offerings it is short, in this case very short but what there is, is quite well done. It looks quite good but is a little too easy, however it was a few minutes of fun.
Tickets please!
So very short but fun while it lasted!
A little too jerky on my personal computer but a nice modification non the less!
Now. How about a long mod set on a train where you objective is to get to the engine set it to full power and crash it into a Combine goods terminal. Then you can choose to crash with it or, phew, fight your way back along this troop/goods train to the rear, decouple and break the last carriage, sit back and watch the fireworks in the distance!
Just a thought.
Hmmm … PP’s TrainVille Contest — methinks I likes the sound of that!
Nice small map with rare concept.
The design of the train itself is interesting and various, but design of outside area is flat and boring, and spoils the impression.
The gameplay looks challenging and dangerous, but it’s actually not hard, especially thanks to the doors that you can open during the gunship attack, which means that the map will make you happy, giving a sense of achievement.
If you have the game Kingpin Life of Crime, it might be wise to consider playing House of Death mod instead of this map, because its train map looks better, but it will require a few tries to complete, so it depends on what’s better for you, easy gameplay or stunning design.
Overall, worth trying. Even if the bad design ruins the map for you completely, you won’t lose much time.
I agree with the above post that the outside environment is a bit odd wheras the inside train is nice looking and designed.
I found this a little hard actually unlike everyone else because I kept running out of ammo. However, that was part of the fun, starting from the begging is fine because it is short, and carefully attempting to gain ammo and lose the least. The final battle is well designed but not hard at all which is a bit disappointing. It was difficult to decide, 3 stars or 4, but since it’s quite fun and original, 4 will do.
Play it when you’re bored.
If someone could use all the GuildHall ideas on a full mod, it could make one hell of a mod.
A short but very enjoyable map. Only problem is that you don’t get a crowbar so opening crates wastes ammo.
I wholeheartedly agree with the above comment. Fun, short, but I really could have used a crowbar!
Well a PN because I liked the concept of the mooving train, I just wonder why I never found the crowbar, if there was any??, I agree i’d love to see this train ride as a part of a mod, thet would be pretty cool, and I hope some one could retake this concept and make it part of something so much more exciting.
Short and sweet, as others have suggested, it would be good as part of a much longer sequence in a map pack…
What a good map! Lots of close quarters combat with a low amount of ammo. One glaring problem though (and I have this problem with many other maps too) is the lack of a crowbar, so I had to waste a lot of pistol ammo for some of the supply boxes. The map is, as others have said, very short too. With that being said, I hope that someday we could get a much longer version of a map like this!
or you could have just used impulse 101…I used the crow bar all the way through…until the end….
I’ll keep my review as short as the level itself.
Really cool idea, but alone it’s nothing special. Too short. Where is my crowbar?
A pretty short and quite enjoyable map, nothing spectacular but you will not regret playing it.
I had the same but longer experience playing Obsidian Conflict a few months ago, but I was playing it alone.
But I have to point out some flaws of the map.
-> No crowbar at the start, instead, players are forced to waste precious ammo to destroy the crates.
-> If the crowbar was available, the mapper could have mixed between hordes of fast & poison headcrabs.
-> Overwatch Soldiers with MP7s were a bad idea and they were not in squads, which makes them quite unaware of player’s presence. Metrocops armed with MP7s (with 40HP of course, not 26HP only) as well a pair of manhacks per man could give players a more challenging experince as well their very good accuracy with that weapon.
-> In the Gunship battle, the mapper could have activated it’s Omniscient Behavior, making the drone fully aware of players position even if they’re taking cover. That behavior, basically, it’s almost just like the Strider’s Agressive behavior shown at the end of Episode One.
Despite the flaws, I give this map a PIN, and what about bobdog’s suggestion? (TrainVille 😉 )
Well obviously the idea is not new. And the train doesn’t even move! So much for realistic feel. I’ve seen a chopper fight map which played out a lot better. I think the train one has sooo much potential but this map in particular kind of botched it, pardon my french.
I can’t think of a pro argument atm. Gunship doesn’t attack unless they see me. I died by getting stuck between the first crates, what gives? Also fell off of one of the platforms but idk how, train wasn’t moving. I also died once because the item crates placed on TOP of the train kept falling to the side! Or the battery one in particular got stuck between wagons and the battery would just fall on the connector and I could only stare at it… hopelessly.
A crowbar or better yet a ggun would have made my day. Counting my bullets like every time is the last one is bad gameplay.
Low FPS shows bad mapping, also, right from the start. Even a short mod like this requires a lot more work than this author put into it.
This should be played only by modders in order to be inspired and do a better job at creating a train fight.
Yes very short but worth your time. I too would love this moving train concept developed farther Its a great idea with tons of potential.
Nice way to spend a few minutes! Definite “play it now’.
THIS MAP IS AMAZING!!
I love the concept and even though it’s not completely original, I like it nonetheless.
The combat was really great, especially with the gunship! I felt like I was in Tomb Raider 4 or Uncharted 2!
BUT, the reason I put this map a PiN instead of a Personal Favorite is because… it’s VERY SHORT. If this map was expanded much more, I would give this map a Personal Favorite for sure!
Overall, this is a map you should really try!
Arghhhh so awesome yet so short. I want more!! 😀

Super nice! I love the concept of the game and the combats are also nice!

Kinda short play time, but good action. Play it if you are looking for a quick game.

The concept is interesting but for rest it’s not really challenging, design is simple, combat are too easy and ending is abrupt
The good point, the experience was not furstating

Why is everyone liking this? Seriously it’s basically a linear run and gun. Obviously linear because you’re on a train but it has some fun concepts in it. It’s that the combat is so easy and too short. The skybox does not look appealing as well because it is just an endless loop of tracks and a citadel behind the train. It’s not very bad but it gets old pretty quick
It’s a short map, but it checked every box I was looking for except one. Missing a crowbar.
Usage of space and world brushes: 7/10
Solid world design and usage of brushes. It was pretty cramped, but I was never stuck during my play through. I really felt like I was on a train.
Visuals 7/10
I felt like I was really moving, except for when a headcrab fell onto the tracks. The plants were quite big, but I really didn’t mind a whole lot. That was not my focus. My focus was on lighting and usage of props. Again, it was a bit cramped, but what else should I expect in a train car full of canisters?
Gameplay: 7/10
Very short gameplay, but a solid and strong start to a mod. I would love to see more of this. Combat was fine. I just wish I had a crowbar. (Although it seemed like the combine was able to take damage from their squad mates, kinda weird imo)
Final Score: 21/30 – 70%
Final Comments: Just play it. It’s worth the 3 extra minutes of your day. You’re not gonna waste your time on this mod. I’d give it a personal favorite if it was longer.

Not bad for a short map. The map is quite easy but I don’t like where you start without a crowbar. Without it, I had to waste ammunition on breaking crates. The layout is simple, it just takes place in the train, the gunship battle, it is good. Overall it’s worth playing a short and easy map.
