It’s quite dark but that feels right here. Many dark levels are just annoying. There is an industrial feel that is conveyed very well. The whole map takes you on a merry dance around and up and down. Of course, this is Bungie design rather than the author of this map, but it’s still a lesson for new mappers – keep things changing.

That said, I haven’t played the original game or level, so the author could have used a lot of creative interpretation and deserves more credit than I am giving him or her.

I would suggest playing this on a high difficulty level than you normally do and this is because the design is quite limited and narrow, so it’s not very hard to play against enemies that run at in in a line.

All in all, this was a pretty cool 10 minutes and well worth your time. Go PLAY IT!

  2. Play It Now!

I really really REALLY enjoyed this as it brought back many happy memories of what was possibly the first game I bought when I bought for first Mac in the late 90s. Shame it’s SOOOOO dark as that is annoying overkill but I cannot deny I enjoyed it. More lights and possibly a leaning towards more authentically styled textures and I’d be rating it a PF.

  3. Play It Now!

Really impressive and amazing map design here. The touch is on its layout and arch. I had so much fun playing this map. It got me excited to see what was about to come to the next area and so on.

  4. Play It Now!

Great fun, shame it is so short. The darkness wasn’t too bad especially as I always turn the brightness up to full in the Video options anyway. I was surprised to find that although I picked up ammo for the pulse rifle I never seemed to pick up the rifle itself! Would have been nice if the final teleport had gone to another level.

  5. Personal Favourite

Great map to shoot your way throgh quickly. The lightning makes the steel-floors appear plesant the music kicks in and the player is free to quickly charge around corners in order to garther some bigger guns.

Very nice remake of the game that started it all! Well done and fun to play. Also brought back many great memories of playing Marathon. If you have never played it, I highly recommend that you download it.

Looking forward to more form Doctor Nuriel!

    Maybe?

Well I never played the Marathon games and didn’t know this map was based on one of those maps, but I did get the sense that this layout was old school. There’s some previewing and backtracking involved. It’s hard to get lost but I could understand getting turned around a bit.

Unfortunately the title is pretty misleading. Even when you start mowing down Combine soldiers and Elites, you’re not allowed to pick up their AR2. So bigger guns may be nearby but they’re not accessible sadly.

Overall, yeah people can have a bit of fun here. It’s certainly better than most of the maps so far in this event. But if you’re looking for something with meat this isn’t it.

  8. Play It Now!

Good playing game with a good amount of action. Would like to see it developed more so I can continue. Would like to see multiple levels, & challenges up elevator, crotch in air vent, fight through other obstacles. Keep going.

    Play It Now!

For something simple, it was very fun. This one had very good placement of combine. Some of them got me from behind as I was walking by. Oh my.

I think a lot of effort went into this one and it shows by being fun.

  10. Maybe?

It’s ok but not really that special. I would have liked it to be longer and had more variety in enemies and weapons.

Have You thought about how games were just different in the 90’s? And I mean every game! Even the very incipient FPS’S around. Well, this little nice map got me thinking about that precisely.

Here we have nice -although quite repetitive- textures in some labyrinthic pathways, reminded me a lot to the Descent games. Despite that, the place felt much in the CMB universe and the CMB enemies were just great for that map.

I may play Marathon one day. You know, I like it when games were simple, no freemium bullshit, and just a great gameplay and combat for your well spent money. All of those things that made the beloved HL different.

    I liked it.

  12. Play It Later

I like this level very much! I especially like dark atmosphere. It looks more like Quake than marathon to me that’s not a bad thing! One problem I do have is the lack of ammo(on hard). I started crow-barring the Elite Soldiers near the end.

I love you for using that track from Halo 2. Too bad it cut out midway when i died 🙁

  13. Play It Now!

Bigger Guns Nearby is a short but powerful mod. It plays like DOOM, which is a plus in my book. The mod doesn’t really have a story, but I believe that story is not the reason why we play games like DOOM. We just want to shoot some damn enemies. And that is basically what this mod delivers. Would love to see more of these mods appear on this site.

  14. Play It Now!

Very good level, the atmosphere is like it reminds old games. Dark ambience fits well and the gameplay is quite interesting.

  15. Play It Now!

    Well designed map!

  16. Play It Now!

This one is something quite interesting…even if the gameplay was kind of repetitive with only aim is ti kill to progress there was some touch of originality through the layout and the small amount of texture used, the artificial contact was original like the music certainly recommanded for 10min of gaming break 🙂

Marathon – the game that started the first-person shooter gaming revolution on the Apple Macintosh platform. I miss the days when everything was not developed for Windoze
