  1. Phillip says Maybe

It’s a simple 5 minute search and kill mission.

The new pistol is fantastic but the combat it not very hard.

A few Christmassy textures but all in all a simple little map with very little combat.

  2. Maybe?

Many years ago I used the term ‘Coffee break” here on PP to indicate it was a short map (and I’ve noticed others using the term since!), this one is almost over before the espresso cup is filled!

The question for me is was it fun and worth the download?
It was fun until I blinked and then it was all over!
Worth the download? At 6.45 mb and the download speeds available now, why not?
By far this is not the worst HL map I’ve played, but its not the greatest either.

The new pistol is not new in HL based games, but it is a rather poor rendition of a Beretta model 92 type pistol (I owned one when they were still legal in the UK).

Eh, this was pretty cute. The new textures were quite nice though I wish you could break the boxes. πŸ˜€ (And get presents out of them!) Very short, if it was anything other than a thematic and highly focused map I would say it was “adequate” – it has dialog, custom textures, not-very-challenging fights, and a valve to turn, so ‘puzzle’ πŸ˜‰ Worth the couple minutes just to see hl1 maps doing silly / new things.

  4. Maybe?

Well, its not offensive in any way. Is this the shortest map ever?

  5. Play It Later

I loved the premise, and the pistol was really good. I just wish it was longer with a real ending. This is more of a “snack” than anything.

  6. If I may criticise my own work, I would say to think twice before trying this out. Starting out with this small project, I believe that the majority of my time was spent in the wrong place. Adding custom models and textures and sounds while the mapping was left until the last minute and suffered greatly.

The map is just a mess in terms of layout and the gameplay flows like a river of syrup. Same goes for the combat, which simply came down to plopping grunts and assassins in a few of the rooms and calling it a day. Then the map just ends in a black room with a sound file and simple message. The whole thing is just a little bit bland.

Given the amount of custom content, this may be something I return to in future for a more solid Christmas release. However, that will only be after my current projects are finalised and out the door…

    1. I hope you do something with them. The elf grunts were very nicely made. Definitely want to be able to break those boxes πŸ˜€ Maybe shoot for a holiday release?

Yes, I know, wrong timing for the review, but who cares.

It’s a simple Christmas-themed level with some really nice touches, like some new weapon skins and some grunt skins (which were really nice). Other than that though, it was really short and the enemies were not threatning at all, even with the inclusion of the Female Assassins. Also, the ending didn’t satisfy me a lot. I expected Santa or a big wrapped gift or something, not just a black room.

This is overall an OK Play it Latter. Indeed I liked the voice acted intro, because fit pretty well and also was very well done. After that I just enjoyed the silenced weapons, but I guess combat was not very nice, you know those grunts with different textures were nice, but that’s it, they were almost not challenge at all.

And at the end, well, I just expected more, because so far I was enjoying the gameplay and the maps too, yeah this is the perfect example for a Play it latter mod in your 5 minutes break, it could be better but that short mod is all what we have.

  9. Play It Later

Merry Christmas, ho ho ho ho! It does compatible with Xash.
