You start out in a shed with a limited view of the scene. Your objective is to protect your comrades and with most of the Combine Soldiers moving that could be a bit difficult. In fact, I didn’t do that very well the first time I played and the map ended.

That was due to the fact that I could see all the Combine, so look around carefully.

Once you do that, things heat up and you have to join your fellow comrades. Of course, things are tough but you get there.

I found the initial situation fun but worried it would get boring soon. Fortunately, the author gave us more to the map than just a few minutes of crossbow action.

Once you get to them, they become your squad and the action is much closer.

I felt the situation with the mounted AR2 could have been done better, as I never really got a chance to pick them off before they were on top of me.

The final battle is not exactly a surprise and it would have been nice if they had appeared behind us, but never mind.

All in all a well made map and definitely fun to play. I could see this being very successful as a co-op map.

More fun than it looked!

2. Play It Now!

This was a fun little map to play. The first part was difficult as hitting moving targets with the crossbow is pretty challenging. I liked the second part too except near the end where I was “fenced in” and unable to explore what looked like a nicely constructed section of the map. The ending was a bit of a letdown but this is definitely worth playing.

Well, first, this is goonna be a strange review for my standars, because, I think this is the first map I recommend with a PF, why??

Well again, because this fantastic job stick really close to what can definitely conssider as a: realistic mission! I mean, here everything is so cool in that way, most of all because it is simple!!, I mean no big deal you are a sniper of the Ressistance, oh Viiva la Resistance!!!, I mean therfore you are into a realistic mission, with a realistic goal, provide cover to ur 3 ressistance folks downthere in the assault, is beautiful, just fantastic because is that simple that real simple.

Then action begins, and you have to kill some CMB malefactors and protect ur buddys, i’m glad I get the 3 of them survived the first part of the assault. But as if were not that realistic enough, then a freakin Heli got you and u have to run to reunite with ur fellow HLguerrilla men.

And at the end resist along with ur folks a superb heavy last CMB soilder assault, (ok there i’d prefer that the soildier were not just the grey cmb soilders, i’d love them to be overwatch instead), there also my 3 men survived with me, and the end seems to be at that point too soon, so you get away from the part where u fighted the CMB, and then BOOM,Hunters baby!!., yeah run and get cover with ur guys again!!, I loved that, what a great combat HL realistic action!

I’d really love to see some more of this missions, I mean oriented to some realistic goals and plot, like a realisticville, or something similar, definitely play this, and this job for me is the main reference of what is a realistic mission in HL2, i’ll play more of this author in the future, and I hope many modders would take this mod as a reference to create some reallistic military missions into the HL2 universe.

4. Play It Now!

It starts like a sniping mission in the game RAGE: people are doing the operation, you provide support. It’s nice to see something new, even if it’s very similar to what was in another game. And RAGE developers should watch and learn how the sniping ends, because this is better than their teleport back to town.

Then we switch roles and people provide support for us.

The design feels empty at some points, but looks good overall. Why are there texture seams on the way to the ending? Speaking of the ending, the intro was quite cinematic, it would be nice to have a cool end cutscene instead of just fading to black.

Would be nice to have enemy snipers who spotted and attack us, like in RAGE, but I guess it’s hard to realise that in HL2. Later we become armed to the teeth, so there won’t be any problems, if you’re careful.

Overall, short map worth trying. Like Black Death, this could be a nice part of CrossbowVille.

1. Hec

this could be a nice part of CrossbowVille.

Yeah I felt that too., Would’ve been an excellent entry.

5. Play It Now!

I thought it was a great map, some unique ideas and well designed, both graphics, layout and gameplay.

However it was simply too short. And so much more could have been done at the beginning in terms of variety and enemies to allow more and varied use of the crossbow. I mean the ammo supply is there and it hardly gets used.

I hope to see another map from this designer soon.

6. Hello guys!
I’m glad to see my map here, thanks to all for your comments, it’s very important for me as a mapper. I want to make a release of the map in near future with good detalisation, better scenes and return part of the map, that was cutted because of competiton deadline.
BTW, if you had any bugs during playing the map – contact me, and it will be fixed!

1. EmoLevelDesigner

Hello. Thanks for your appreciation, and it’s really good to know that better version of the map is coming.

7. Play It Now!

This was a great little map, a definite objection and great overall direction. I applaud the author on a job well done and even more so as I read in the folder, done in just 21 days, awesome. I totally agree with Hec’s post above about a realistic mission, this was sweet to play and surely left me wanting more from this author. Great Job well done !!

8. Play It Now!

I found this very enjoyable for such a short map. The inital sequence, in which the player must defend his allies using the crossbow, manages to be challenging but not too frustrating despite the difficulty in hitting the moving soldiers. I felt that the fleeing segment could have done with some more cover from the helicopter, but I made it through without too many problems. I also found myself clipping on the pipes, resulting in loosing a lot of health unfairly. The final confrontation is exciting and well balanced, although I was able to run past the
striders without fighting them, which led to me dying in the final “cutscene”.
Overall, a fun little map which is definitely worth playing.

9. Play It Now!

Very good. I am sure if this mapper makes more they will make something truly epic worth many personal favourites.

The sniper part was very fun, defending your team.

The helicopter was very clever and it was very fun running and hiding then your team-mates destroy it. Quite clever scripts, it was fun.

The large battle with many combine I died because I didnt use the mounted ar2, and they just surrounded xD however, second time it was fun mowing them all down. 😀 a good battle.

However it was short.

10. Play It Later

It has nice scenery, good battles, good mapping. But the battle near the end a bit intense. And not great optimization there, although with all of those enemies charging I dont know if you could have good optimization. Also, I am one that doesnt like squads follwing me around. On the other hand the squad here isnt that intrusive.

Overall, worth a playthrough.

11. Brian C

This one locks up on me after trying to load for a long time. Anybody have any ideas? I did try turning down my video settings. Thanks.

12. Play It Now!

Fun like A_Venetian.. but rather more intense, and it seemed a lot shorter. A good frolic through death row.

Which reminds me – are we now to time the interval between Valve’s Half Life releases in decades rather than years?? *wry grin/grimace*

13. Maybe?

Nice mapping, but limited and uncreative gameplay possibilities, and frustrating.

14. Play It Later

Overall a good map with a few minor flaws. You start the map sniping distant soldiers from a window. Sniping moving targets at long range with the crossbow is extremely difficult and not much fun, though. Next, after dodging a chopper for a while, you get tooled up for what must be a really huge battle – only you’re then given a mounted gun, and maybe 15-20 soldiers who run at you mostly in straight lines. What was meant to be the climactic battle ended up therefore not posing any real challenge.

15. Personal Favourite

I really like this one. It has everything, sniping, mounted guns, normal action, team mates and hunters.

The first part is a sniping section. You have to shoot Combine to protect your fellow rebels. It’s kind of like those levels from Sly Cooper. If it was any longer I wouldn’t like it too much but it’s the perfect length.

Next is some regular onfoot combat. I like the visuals a lot in this map. They’re really nice looking. I also love the setting, it’s very interesting. The combat is pretty fun too.

Then there’s a mounted gun section. This part is fun as well. Gunning down Combine with mounted guns is always fun but the layout here is perfect for it. There’s a few hunters then the map ends. I definitely recommend it, it’s very fun.

16. Play It Now!

Nice map! I especially love the sniping section.

17. Play It Now!

Looks and plays good.

18. Maybe?

I wish HL2 came with a real sniper rifle.
The bolt have a long travel time and it felt more up to luck if I could shoot the combines.

19. Play It Later

The sniper part is fun and all until you’re forced to go to the factory with your team. That’s where things get boring but other than that, the level design is pretty decent.
