On the surface, this mod is a collection of loosely linked abstract ideas but as the name defines, this is really the author’s attempt to delve deeper into the mind of a person with PTSD. AT this point, I don’t know whether Ethosaur actually suffers from PTSD or whether it’s his imagination – I am waiting to hear from him regarding an audio interview.
It’s easy to dismiss the maps and gameplay as simply weird but there are memes that run through the mod. Many of them are beyond my understanding or knowledge and I would hope that it doesn’t detract too much from the experience.
I enjoyed most of the mod but towards the end I was definitely hoping it would finish soon. This could be the author’s intention and a recreation of the types of feeling people have with PTSD.
Most things work the same as they do in regular HL2 maps and mods, but not everything. There is a cool section that recreates the opening scene in Half-Life 2 and I should also add that there is “regular” combat situations as well as puzzles and just plain weird stuff.
If you play this mod with an open mind you will probably enjoy it but if you start the mod hoping for a standard release then you will be disappointed.
Of course, I could be totally wrong and Ethosaur could be trolling us and just wanted to make something strange. Either way, the result is one of the strangest mods I have played.
If you are unsure whether you should play this and my video playthrough is online, take a quick look as it should give you a good idea of what to expect.
All in all, I recommend you play this mod, on the one condition that you like something a little different.

This was a delightfully twisted release. There is a lot of great and weird content throughout. It’s like playing one of those “trippy” mind-bender maps authors make sometimes except it is an entire mod. There were great little touches throughout and everything from models to enemies was customized nicely.
This would have been a PIN for me except for a few buggy things I encountered. There were 3 times where I managed to get myself stuck in areas and could not get out. I used a box and a button to get a force field to temporarily deactivate, but I didn’t move through it fast enough and got stuck when it turned back on. When the Barney-type character tries to get me into the interrogation room I got stuck with him between me and the door I was supposed to go through. Also I got stuck in the bathroom stall with the giant toilet, and when I tried to open the door it would open inwards and hit me. Finally near the end where you are struggling to make it down a path in a kind of vortex/storm the mod would crash if I used the quicksave button.
Technical glitches aside this was really fun and gave me quite a few laughs.

This is one of the only weird mod I liked!
A complete little mod, with custom sounds, models, textures… And that added more fun to it!
And for one time, this wasn’t just dank meme 24/7.
For a mod like this, one hour is pretty long, maybe too long for some peoples. Yet, I found the mod ended at the right moment! Not too short, not too long!
There were some issues at some point, like, it’s maybe just my skills, or maybe it was made like this, but in the Super Mario World, where you’ve got sand that falls when you walk on it. I couldn’t jump to the rotating platform, it was too far away from the last block of sand…
I really liked all the little easter egg you’ve put in this mod too.
So if you’ve got some time to spend, try this mod!

This is by and large the strangest mod I’ve ever played or seen, but I was honestly surprised by the quality of it (at least, in the last chapter or two). While there is certainly a lot of strange things here, The PTSD Mod is an experience that I think anyone should play at least once because of it’s surreal and often psychedelic moments. I didn’t get many of the references that were present in the mod but they’re not needed to enjoy it. My only major complaint is that there was a nasty bug in the last chapter where whenever I tried to save, the game crashed without an error or warning. This occurred for both quicksaves and normal saves. I’m not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue but it did kinda detract a bit from the experience if I’m being completely honest. But still, this is a great (and very weird) mod that’s well worth a playthrough especially if you love the more ‘out there’ mods.

wow what a trip….my mind is spinning. I dont know anyone with ptsd but if this is the feeling you have to work with, thats exhausting.
PTSD in reality is something completely different. Here it might seem like it’s a drug or something, but it’s a very serious “illness” war veterans might have. The way this mod uses “PTSD” as it’s name could be argued is very disrespectful of people who actually suffer from PTSD, but we know that it’s just memes and jokes. Someone outside the community might expect something else though.
I don’t really view it as a problem, just wanted to put that out there.
It originally started as an inside joke where I would say I had gotten “PTSD” from working on PUNT etc, I guess thats where the idea for the mod name came. I agree though that I could see from some standpoints there could be some confusion, but I never intended to mean any disrespect to any people suffering from real ptsd. Hopefully most people will see that fairly quickly.
ok, I wasnt sure if you had problems with ptsd yourself, so that would be a possible reason to make a mod, to set the player in some sort of mood and to “explain” ptsd in that way.
How i came to this idea? im suffering from anixiety disorder so i cant play any horror mods, but your mod was very interessting for me. Some parts are a good example of how i feel in different situations. Breaking Windows, and Floors without seeing any ground, lots of impressions at the same time and all very loud..
…not so easy to explain but i hope you get it 🙂
Sorry for the late reply, but yeah I think I get it, and actually in a way there are a few parts in PTSD that had some thought into it, but i’ll let the players decide what to think of that.
Memes…..Memes….Memes everywhere!
I was shocked that I couldn’t figure it out that the creator (Ethosaur) also made a map in CromulentVille called “Manor of the PTSD”.
This mod took the way to “meme” really well. Unlike troll mods/maps, there’s always something hilarious, over-the-top, WTF things to laugh at and they don’t feel like it’s getting shoved down your throat. The sounds are icing on the cake. I also enjoy the final battle too. (NO FAAAAMMMMMMMM!)
I also like the reskins of every weapons, especially the Shotgun. Too bad the AR2 doesn’t get one.
There’s barely any negative things in this mod. The only two things I don’t like are…..(SPOILERS BEYOND THIS!)
1)The second parkour section, it’s kinda long and boring. There’s also a bug that if you reload a quicksave, the blur effect will disappear.
2) While the mod is funny, most of the people will barely get the story. A guy said only like 20 people will get it. It took me 2 Google searches to figure it out.
And after playing the mod 3 times, I came up with a theory. My guess is Ethosaur was a part of the Punt developer team….and he…quited? I guess? Sorry, to make a theory about your life, Ethosaur.
Also, Ethosaur. I was kinda disappointed that some parts of Manor of PTSD wasn’t used in the making of this mod. But whatever, still great mod.

Manor of PTSD was made in conjunction of PTSD mod, so I decided I wanted both to be unique playthrough experiences. That’s why neither of them use anything from each other (But have similar themes like Old punt and weird stuff) Thanks for playing!
I found this mod entertaining and puzzling, in the slightly raised eyebrow kind of way. Some interesting concepts and amusing touches, but I have never liked silly gun sounds, especially inane phrases which are at first funny, but then repetition grinds the teeth, and gears!
It’s an okay mod and plays with only the usual glitch or two.
As for the in-depth PTSD, I did have a few “Tour of Duty” (1997-90) flashbacks!
If this is a comedy style mod I think “Santa’s Revenge 2” handles that better.
But this has some nice jumping and timing challenges but it is too eclectic for its own good.
Weird but not bad.
Some polish would have made in shinier!

I guess I put this question in the wrong place first and I’m not sure where else to put it…
After playing this mod, I’m looking for more really weird mods for both games. I remembered Gateways and The Great Forever Tomorrow, and I’m looking for as many as I can… Any suggestions?
Try the series of mods called “Mystery Combat Man”. Also for Half-Life 1 there is a russian mod Ispitatel 4: Classic. It’s not crazy as PTSD Mod, but it have some cool crazy scenes and athmosphere.
I have just one, tiny question about this mod:
What is with the “Person of Interest” References? Like seriously? I don’t get it!
Nice Ratchet & Clank menu sounds.
Noise dank memes and fun.

I don’t even know how to comment on such a weird mod. I didn’t understand most, if not all the references outside of spongebob. I know Gabe Newell was in there somewhere. This is the wildest mod I have ever played. I wish I knew the story, but I tried to look for answers after playing. Came up empty. All I know is that it’s a real mod that was released some time after this mod?
The boss battle at the end though was really infuriating. I had no idea where to hit the boss until it just decided to blow up after way too many crates were thrown.
This was overstimulation in so many ways. I don’t know when I want to start part 2, but it’s not any time soon.

I personally like PTSD 2 more than this. But at least I enjoyed the weirdness of this mod, its content is the reason why I loved it.
Very Good and silly mod
