“It’s the night that lasts forever. You’ve just found a way back into the winding non-euclidean streets of Insomnia City after after a long soul search in the great white void.
Time is running out and so are options. Enemies are closing in on all sides and everyone’s waiting for the inevitable.
This is it, the beginning of the end. Every question about who you were and why you’re here is irrelevant.
All that matters now is survival, and what you will become. Paranoia has taught you much, but it’s time to move on, on to orders of time and space still stranger.”

Shadgrimgrvy has a very interesting way of looking at things. I’ve never been high but I imagine this is exactly how things would seem to me. Perhaps he actually gets high and then makes his maps.
Anyway, this is another journey through a weird and crazy world. You will encounter traditional combat, so it’s not just an Alt mod.
I would have like a little more interaction with the elements of the environment, but that’s just asking for too much. What you get is part puzzle, part combat and part dream. Just what you need on a Friday to get you ready for the weekend.
I recommend you at least try it, but I think most will enjoy it, at least to some degree.
I have to agree with phillip on this map …. its one of those crazy maps which apart from being trippy and weird are nice to look at ….. i allways enjoy these maps ever since i played “the mistake of pythagoras” which used unusual mapping idea,s
i allways think how the authors get their idea,s when creating unusual maps like this … they are more dream based and in my opinion are what you would see while in a nightmare ….
the maps are excellent and i especially like the spinning cars and upside down tree,s …so overall i liked the map and thought it deserved a play it now …..
well done mate !
Holy cow this was a gorgeous, challenging, amazing map.
The sounds were superb, the scary and unseen, off-screen breathing and machine noises, the ‘is that an energy pellet, will it kill me’ bits, all good.
Fractured map bits for a clearly fractured mind. The tilted rooms were *amazing*. I loved the occasional hidden bits, and even the dead ends were amazing fun.
Laser puzzle was quite challenging, and very scary! And when the elevator ride started I just about jumped out of my skin. “Is this going to kill me! nooo!”
Great puzzle aspects, nothing too terribly difficult but nothing revoltingly obvious either. All of this on a map which felt much larger and more expansive, because of the flipping around to different portions, even though it was really less area than most small sized maps.
This is the way to put together what might otherwise be a disjointed and confusing bunch of map pieces and elements. Great work.
A very cool and trippy map. I thoroughly enjoyed it right up until the end part, which kind of degenerates into some pointless combat with spawning enemies coming from behind force fields. But that is a small gripe in what overall is an excellent quality production. It’s amazing how much the author packed into such a small file. Conserve your resources as they are scant, to say the least. Definitely a great piece of work to check out!
Interesting map with some cool artful levels, but the riddles were kind of not so well done as I solved some of them just by trial and error without getting the meaing behind them. Also the end with endless combine spawning was kind of a letdown!
They were definitely not endless. It was a 3 minute countdown to singularity at which point they should all be spawned and done with. I only had one hold out by the ring by the time I was ready to go out there.
Agreed. With careful managment of the resources you can control their exit from the tunnels. I actually managed to completely block the Combine Elite group with the two tables and then pick them off at will.
I was frustrated by that part until I saw your comment. The tables really do make excellent barricades (although they feel a bit like I’m abusing the AI’s limitations).
I really enjoyed this map, and I don’t know why! I managed to finish this map and (during parts of it) I don’t know how!
An amazing map design, it would have taken a mind that definitely isn’t like mine. I like to figure out how, or as was said above, the meaning of what’s going on. I don’t think we are supposed to!
Well, I remember playing this first, when it was released. Apparently many quite nice maps in there, where not launched back then in PP.com untill now. Well, as in that time I didn’t use to review anything I played, I replayed this cool map and now I sure have to say something about this one.
Overall is a pretty cool and special map. Is well done and all the surreal details and that lovely Dali’s atmosphere is pretty well implemented from the beginning to the end of the map. I have said that I really love those maps where we’re like into a crazy freeman’s trip or dream, you know, and I probably like that kind of maps, because they’re pretty scarce; those available and must play are “Gateways” and obviously, the classic “The Great Forever Tomorrow”, available here in RTSL if you search for them.
I also like this kind of maps because they not only stay with the artsy touch, no, they go farther and place very good combat on it. Although I’d love to fight some Hunters at the end, the combat was pretty cool and just well balanced, nevertheless I’d love to have some medkits and HEV batteries at the end arena.
In conclusion this is a great map to play, I also liked some other work from this author. And I just say, I’d love to play a whole bigger mod in this same style, by this author, because I guess that would be pretty good, I hope he can hear.
I also believe here in RTSL, we really need a new TAG, to this kind of maps/mods, I can suggest “Funky”, or “Combat Dream”, even “Delusion-Illusion” or “Crazy Trip”
looking to my gaming time I certainly lost some alternative route even if I saw every screen that were posted
I think in term of design and wierdness is was certainly enjoyable like puzzle (green beams) and combat (last sequence) but I think I like it simply classic and didn’t get into the mood of this special experience…
The sole reason as to why I haven’t taken this as my favorite, similar to Insomnia, is that it’s a bit more confusing than the original.
I understand that you need to follow your instincts and all but flippin’ switches over and over just won’t do it. I need some guidance. In fact I wasn’t even sure what to do at the end: how to jump into the portal, if there were endless Combine soldiers rushing through, etc… .
The creator should also focus a bit on balancing this map for the Hard difficulty, especially in the ending. Those who didn’t use the hopper mines properly would pay a LOT for it. Think wisely.
When people will tell me “Ever been high?” I’ll tell them “Yes.” “How much?” “Yes.” “What did you use and you’re using now?” “Hypnofobia, a map for Half Life 2” “what.”
That can explain what I mean? No? Play by yourself and you’ll understand.
9/10 would trow sofas in the nothing again.
There are not enough of this kind of map out there. The surrealist level design is wonderful to look at and explore. While I can’t say the combat is anything wonderful I wholeheartedly recommend playing this map just for the look. I could play a whole mod that uses this type of level design. Play it now.
Awesome mod! I love the surreal feel of the map, and I also like the trap rooms. Laser dodging and the last fight are enjoying.
Not my cup of tea.
I somehow got into a 4 colored corridors in a form of a cross and can’t get out of there! Seems like noone making youtube with this map ever got there :-] Any idea what’s that?
