The game begins, you take a look around, go through a door and grab some stuff, drop down into a vent….then a loading screen appears, and you’re superglued to the spot.

Don’t waste your time downloading it.

  3. Maybe?

You never got stuck playing Half-life before? Its nothing a noclip cant fix in a sec.

Very short map with tons of enemies and lots of ammo.

Oh, now I remember this one. I’d have to say that if this was the first mod I played for Half-life, I’d probably have given up on the game already.

This isn’t a map, this is a mod. Given the fact that it is relatively short, I can guarantee you’ll still die… a lot. This mod is OBSESSED with grunts, and not only that, there are actual wrong turns in this that will KILL you. It’s almost like playing King’s Quest all over again, except without the subtle hint that something bad would happen.

There are some okay moments in this, but the extreme difficulty based on unbalanced enemies and few weapons (mostly explosives) combined with bad map transitions (you will get stuck in the level, and if you backtrack the level resets itself) I would say:

    Spoiler Features:
-Beating the crap out of turrets with a crowbar
    -Cutscenes
-Cutscenes with You Dying (with Post-Mordem messages too)
    -NO Aliens, whatsoever :/
-Two Scientists trapped in a lab
-Beating the GMan with a crowbar

Insanely impossible mod. Very difficult first map (impossible).
Must noclip before map transitions or you spawn in the floor.
    Very difficult (impossible) 2nd map.
Only one health station in the whole mod.
    Plain design in between fights.
    Two possible endings, both fatal.
An annoying and out of balance unrewarding mod.
Play on god mode if you must play it at all.
I read the posts, but I wanted to form my own opinion. I wish I hadn’t bothered.
Thankfully, mods this bad are very few.
    -5/5

Sickly buggy, hollow story, and one of the worst models for the MP5. Mappers and modders: Don’t underestimate the power of the beta testing.

PD: this is less stable than a primary alpha

  7. Think Twice

Well… Many many many many grunts, extremly hard difficulty, 2X two appaches at the same time, two traps, lot of superglue , grunts appears from nowhere. One of the most “Arghhhhh” mod I ever played

  8. bicfarmer

eveyone should see Hangar 16’s review of this one! “You start out in a desert it’s pitch black, and you have to grope around for your HEV suit and all…apache mating season…12 grunts and 2 apaches…how the **** can I fight the apaches if they can destroy the building you take refuge in…?” and finally, he said “you get to watch yourself die in third person, snuff-style”. Unfortunately Hangar 16 is no longer operational, and that really is a pity

  9. Avoid It!

Indeed bicfarmer, you definitely do have to grope around in the dark for your HEV suit and crowbar. Then strangely enough, killing a Bullsquid summons an aerial strike, and you have to rush to the next area before getting shot to bits by two Apaches. Get ready to noclip and quickload more than a few times too, as the level changes are horrendously linked to multitudes of grunts, with very dumb respawn locations. (Two) Mildly amusing death sequences accompanied with postmortem messages. Custom weapons with strangely… lacking reload animations.

The betrayal.txt also brags about a custom titles.txt (which informs you with “start” as you load up the mod, yay), and a new training level (of which there was none).

In conclusion, just skip this one, you won’t miss much at all.

This is terrible, just terrible. Strangely I feel more anger at mods like this than the simple one big room full of enemies. I’m not sure why, but I do.

I got stuck numerous times, mostly in level changes, but once near the cart next to the helicopter at the beginning.

The first map has no edge and you can see over the side, you struggle to find your objective. Eventually, a helicopter fires and causes two explosions, one opens the building, leading to some supplies (2 HEV chargers can’t be reached!) and a drop to a stupid tunnel system.

If, and it is a big IF, you get past this, you exit into a large area, with a way too long flyby. This section is hard but I had already got stuck 4 times by then and had switched on GODMODE.

When you get past all the grunts and 2 helicopters you enter a complex that is as bland as it is boring. There seemed to be multiple routes but I found myself in a room with the Gman and the damn thing ended. I had no desire to reload and find out where the other routes took me.

I am in a bad mood now and want everybody to play this so they can feel how I feel.

    GODMODE AND GET IT OVERWITH!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! I can see why Phillips angry at this one, but as Michael Winner (almost) said “calm down Phillip its just a game”.

At the time this must have been the authors pride and joy as ” betrayal.txt” in the zip file indicates it’s his first released map and the play-test time was weeks. If he’s looking at PlanetPhillip now, it’s the kind of feed back he needed over 11years ago!

There was nothing much to like about this although the sound moderated (silenced) Car 15 Assault Rifle looked and sounded quite good. The base must have been the property of a paranoid bad guy as who else would have ceiling mounted gun turrets in air ducts? And who else would have grunts spawning in front of you while being shot at by two attack choppers?

The combat was way over the top, although thankfully the assassins in one of the overly long cut-scenes failed to show up.

As for the look this is another one that came from the Lego Block School of Design, from start to finish the only fun was at the end, about 1 second after exiting the game.

  12. I want to feel to pain about this mod too, in first person. Downloading, lol!

    Avoid It!

Yeah, this one is pretty bad. It features bad blocky design, nearly impossible combat situations, choices which lead to certain death, and overlong boring cutscenes.

Somehow I didn’t trigger any hostiles on the first map. Tip: you can just bash the bunker door with a crowbar and it’ll break for you. Then it’s on to the worst FPS sewer level in the history of FPSs (and that’s saying a lot). It’s not even a sewer, it’s claustrophobic boxy corridors filled with huge turrets.

But the third map is the killer, you’re thrust into a battle with infinitely spawning grunts (out of thin air by the way) and 2 Apaches. There is a good weapons cache nearby but the building it’s in offers little protection since it’s breakable, and if the Apaches see you there you’re done. The author tells you to run. But this map is survivable (barely) if you can take down the choppers. They hover so close together that if you take down one, it’ll likely take out the other during the crash. I was able to run out of the weapons building before the Apaches came, distract the grunts with a contact grenade, and then sit behind their bunker while I shot them with the crossbow and put a couple rockets into an Apache. However, the grunts do infinitely spawn here so your timing will have to be good.

After that it’s all downhill. You enter a boring building and only end up going the right way through luck or trial-and-error. There’s an elevator you can take down, but if you do you get immediately shot by turrets and a grunt with a mounted machine gun in a cutscene. I thought I was being clever by putting a bunch of satchels on the elevator and sending them down. But even with the turrets and grunt dead, the mounted machine gun still magically shoots you. Sigh.

    Don’t download this. It’s terrible.

  14. Avoid It!

This mod makes When the Army Came to the Office look great.

There were two positives about this mod, the 9mmAR reskin and that it’s very short.

Yep that’s it for the positives. First of all I had to use noclip on the first three maps and there are only five, not including the ending map. I got stuck inbetween some kind of trolly and one of those badly made hills on the first map which tells the whole story about the mod.

First of all the first map was just dire. The design was horrible, the long sequence was horrible and for some reason there was a bullsquid in one of the corners of the map which was completely unexplained. Then we have to fall down a hole and then take some damage in order to get to the next map in which you’ll be stuck and have to noclip out. Then we have a boring maze with turrets that are easy to destroy until we get to the next map transition in which you’ll be stuck again. Then we have a really tough fight with respawning grunts and Apaches which I barely managed to get past without using god. Then you have multiple paths one of which you die and the other you get some crappy ending.

    Don’t bother with it.

This should be named, becraped, I mean there are crap everywhere, bad design, stupid layout, and a sadistic affection for brutal stupid senseless combat, this mod could be conssidered as bad taste, worst terrible taste, there are 2 unfortunated stupid-retarded, endings for Gordon, and one wierd ass ending that I don’t get it the only thing they offer there in the ending where u find G-Man is that this terrible mod is going to continue!!, oh please no don’t ever do that again.

God points about this mod, the SMG was differenmt and with a cool sound I like new weapons so don’t blame by that, all the rest of the mod is just Crap.

    1. all the rest of the mod is just Crap.

This is a perfect way of describing the mod in a sentence.

  16. Avoid It!

G-Man gave Gordon a mission to check what happened with the scientists who went to capture a monster.

The file betrayal.txt says that there is a training map in the mod, but actually there isn’t, and this fact causes misgiving. The beginning of the game intensified it: level lighting is different from what’s drawn on the sky. We approach the chopper and see what’s left of scientists, mostly skeletons. The one who is guilty in it is near, and we destroy it with the chopper turret.

Then two enemy choppers arrive and destroy the nearby storage. Our task: quickly get to the ruins, take explosives and jump in the pit. In a hurry, we can accidentally fall into that pit before taking the explosives, and that’s not good.

Primitive dark labyrinth. That’s totally not good. And then – what a surprise – spectacular cutscene. This is, of course, good, but would be much better if the cutscene wasn’t protracted and strengthened the beauty of beautiful place and made breathtaking event more breathtaking, which is not the case here. I defeated the soldiers, because I had powerful bombs, but returned choppers made me use cheats.

Later design is awful: cubism, prefabs, emptiness, textures which don’t look good together. There will be a train platform from Anomalous Materials, but with broken textures and geometry.

What’s fun is that if we pick the wrong path, we’ll see a cutscene with our character’s death. It reminds of old games where pressing the wrong button caused the same result and the player had to guess the right one.

I have good news to those who played such waste mods: today I found out that “happy” people who didn’t play them are not happier than us, quite the contrary, decent mods look like a waste in their eyes and selection of mods which can please them is smaller than selection of mods which can please us.

  17. Avoid It!

Tiny maps with plenty of combat and the usual “story” with the Gman…
“..you have no chance of winning”

    Pro’s:
    -Much combat, many weapons

    Con’s:
    -Short playtime
-Unfair at all times, for example respawning grunt, enemy placement etc.
-Bugs and/or unfair happenings such as a exploding rooftop
-Very hard difficulty outside –> Apaches
    -No real story, no puzzles

  18. Avoid It!

There’s nothing else to add that hasn’t been said already, this mod is just crap on so many ways that is not even funny, the “highlight” of the mod would be the third map were you encounter lots of grunts plus TWO Apaches shooting at you, is almost impossible to do this the “right” way, and the only option is to run like mad to the main building or activate god mode

The least is said about this mod, the better, is simply just… horrible

  19. Avoid It!

There were so many – no, TOO many enemies for the game. Almost always, when a cutscene loads, your character gets stuck (but you can use noclip) to something. Honestly, just could’ve been better. AVOID IT!
