We must be careful that the recent lack of SP maps doesn’t cloud our judgement as to what is good and what is not. It’s easy to play something, in fact “anything”, and be relieved to have it and then give it a higher score than it probably deserves. So, with all that said, what did I think of this release? Actually I thought it was pretty good. You become concious using the “big brown telephone” and things get worse for you after that.
The layout was generally very clear, without feeling too linear. The design was good, as many areas really did feel industrial. Some areas seemed to ahve items in them that looked out of place, but that’s just me being picky.
Overall, the combat is good and the one or twos et pieces were quite nice. The only let down for me was the palcement of some enemies. I would get into an area and think “Okay, there’s probably going to be this, this and this waiting for me.” It would have been nice to have been surprised.
All in all a fun map to play, that looked good and ran smoothly. Go play it when you have time.
Oh so agree, that’s why im awaiting Striderville so bad, by the way how is that going so far Phillip??, when it will be ready??, I hope there are so much entrys on progress!
The closing date is sometime in June. It won’t be released until after then. One map is currently being tested by The Beta Testers Collective.
First of all, the map was way too short. The player was given no goal and I ended up just wondering around and trying which door was locked and which wasn’t. Mapping was okay, but a bit dumb – First a random toilet in some industrial building, then a canal and suddenly a metro tunnel? There was no npc utilization at all. The zombies had just been placed behind the corners and randomly along the way. They just stood still until they saw the player. The only nice thing of this map was the industrial environments, I’d like to see more of these in the future!
Phillip is correct when he said,
With that said I did enjoy the visuals but combat was too easy for me. All in all I found myself wanting more when it ended which means it must have some appeal. Thanks to the author!
As an overture to a bigger adventure yet to come , it’s brilliant.
As a stand alone map; It’s nothing to waste HD space on…
As others have stated; The mapping is quite good.
But I felt I was on the way to something….uhm…bigger, in terms of combat and exploration.
I sincerely hope the author consider to implement this release as a start for a mission.
I agree with Phillip’s wording. hence, the rating.
Not much to recommend this one.
This one is certainly worth playing if only to encourage the author to continue on with a story. Nice mapping all around including the eerily claustrophobic train station. Darker ambient lighting for the powered-down train station would have added some extra needed creepiness to this short adventure.
As everyone mentioned, the only thing that lacked the most was some nice challenge and story development. But, I’m sure the author will get to hopefully work on that in a future sequel or implement it to his future maps. The mapping and visuals were great, making out for the short experience.
Good map design, start was excellent by giving only the crowbar and couple of zombies.
However the map was bit short and there were only zombies… I would really like to have some more variety 😛
However the big poison zombie + couple of normal zombies was pretty interesting combo to fight. (used only crowbar because I was saving ammo for next “big” battle 😀 )
Another very short singleplayer mod.
It’s pretty nicely made though, everything looks pretty polished, the ligthing and the map layout looks also well thought.
Sadly again very very short, looks more like a showcase map of the authors capabilities.
Nice quick little mod, is pretty good is nice and pretty because the layout is dynamic which leads to a dynamic gameplay, also I like when HL mods involve subway-related content and this definitely has a pretty ending I liked that subway station so that’s another good point for it!
its worth about 5 mins of time. very short but overall a good play
I really REALLY enjoyed playing this map. Good to look at and explore as you figure out wth going on (as your character). Great all the way through – but I personally had two issues with this map. 1. when you got the weapons it was like you was a kid in a candy shop. Guns laying about everywhere.. okay.. perhaps after some previous gunfight but that idea fails as there was no dead bodies. If there was, it’d work. For me anyhow. 2. Way too short. I got on that train and BAM! There went the fun. I want more 😀
Fantastic map, if short… Deff play this!

I liked the environment of the map, but that’s about it. From what I could gather you were a citizen in a recently shelled area but no story other than that. The Only enemy in the map were Zombies. It gave you weapons randomly as well (by randomly I mean ten SMGs laying on the road at a time.) It was also way to short. I understand that it can be extremely difficult to make maps but this was cutting it way to close. All in all, if you want to beat on Zombies for ten minutes, go right ahead.

Design is good for me like the ambiance.
if you look arround you will find a shotgun that make it even easier to progress, at the end it felt a little bit short but at least it was descent and fun for the time I spend
