Special Note

There is a place near the end, where you are supposed to recieve the Super Gravity Gun. Unfortunately, the first time I played this map, I didn’t get it and it makes it impossible to continue. I assumed that I would find a weapon further on and carried on playing. If, when you have all your weapons taken away from you, you don’t get given the weapon, open the console and type give weapon_physcannon. If in the very unlikjely event that the gravity gun is not the super gravity gun, type physcannon_megacannon 1.

  1. Phillip says Play It!

Well, it’s been a while since I and probably you played a new Ep2 map and I am pleased to say that the wait was almost worth it. This is a great piece of work and almost worthy of a WOW recommendation, but not quite.

Most areas are well designed both visually and gameplay wise. I did feel that some areas didn’t quite feel Combinesque enough, like the large central indoor area for example.

In fact, that area was a little bit of a let down, as the Combine could have come from a variety of heights as well as directions. That style of gameplay has been done too much in my humble opinion.

The following outdoor area was pretty good and probably the most challenging.

My biggest criticism is of the transitions. After the large indoor area you are transported to another place and it feels “added”, almost as if the author had another level idea and connected them.

The same goes for the very final transition. You are supposed to fall down a hole but I walked over it and found some invisible walls. I walked back and jumped down the completely black hole and it led to the penultimate screenshot which fades to black.

Please don’t get me wrong, this is a great map and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it could have been a little more polished and that would have been even better.

So, without doubt it’s a PLAY IT!, and I am sure you will enjoy it.

  2. I can not find a Models folder to place the blackout.mdl file.

Which directory is the Models folder supposed to be in?

    Thanks

    1. If there is no models folder, just create a new one. It should be in the “ep2” folder, the same as the maps folder.

  3. Play It Now!

I also had a problem where I didn’t get the super gravity gun the first time. I just reloaded the save point, made sure the original gravity gun was selected, and then went into the section again. After that it worked. Fun map to play, but I agree that the mix of environments doesn’t really make sense.

Hm.., I’m stuck, picture no. 27, last with gravity gun, I killed that gunships and..? thanks for help…

    1. Got towards the opposite end of where you entered the open area. Look for some wooden crates, try behind them.

  5. Anon_261331

I need a tip how to get through the hole in the wall with the force field behind and the grenade supply nearby. I have thrown them all over the place beyond the field but nothing happened…

    1. Brian C

Hey I just figured this one out! Throw your grenade up into that thing on the wall just across from u.

      1. Anon_261616

Damn, of course I tried that several times, but the grenade never dropped in. I must have been unlucky ;)…

  6. Dan

Hmm, kept me interested until the room with the two energy balls in the enclosed shaft just after you get the super gravity gun, you get locked in the room with them…

    1. Have you got out of the room yet?

      1. Dan

No. I’ve found you can pick up a bit of metal inside the tube and fling it about a bit.

        1. Yes, this part had me stuck for a while too. It’s possible to grab energy balls from behind the metal plate that you removed. Use those energy balls to power up the two receptacles within the room.

          1. Dan

Ah, thanks Guv. I figured that’s why the plate dropped off, but I didn’t see where it fell from. Could you hint as to where the hole is to drag the energy things through? Thanks.

            1. As you enter the room, just to the left, on the far wall, is where you see the energy balls going down in two columns. I think the panel came from the middle (width-wise) and about eye-height. It’s the only palce where you can actual pull the energy balls from. It looks like you can crawl in but you can’t. I think it has a red glow behind panel. Definitely somewhere there. Stick with it because it can be hard to pull them out because they are moving so fast.

              1. Dan

All sorted now, thanks! Entertaining map, just a little short. Still took many hours to put together though, I bet.

Well designed overall. Some spaces were a little sparse, but most had a good feel to them.

    Play It Now!

I don’t really know why after playing many hl1 mods source mods feels just right, so play this one, has an interesting beggining, a really cool clever climax, and a decent kill gunship end, so it’s recommended to play this one and have fun, it has a well layout and for to be just one map the size and space is really well taken….

  9. This is bugged… I see the following error in the console…

ERROR: Tried to SetParentAttachment for entity point_viewcontrol (kamera_start), but it has no attachment named vehicle_driver_eyes.
Dynamic prop kamera_animacja: no sequence named:exit1

Gutted as I wanted to play this…

    1. Are you sure you downloaded the file from me? The previous version which is available on other sites, had that issue, my link shouldn’t.

    2. BayTheMoon

I had that same error, to fix it, create a folder, name it models, then put blackout.mdl into it and put the models folder into the maps folder.

  10. Play It Later

Its a must to read the special notes at the top of this page. Overall not a bad play, could be a bit more polished. It was a little challenging in the indoor area until I figured out the “center piece” exit to move on. Once I cleared the outdoor area I needed to return to this page to locate an exit just to know I had finished the map. nothing really new or special here, it has its flaws but its worth a play.

  11. Play It Now!

For a single map, it’s very challenging, lengthy and fun.

The mapping was overall good, but I felt that the lighting could have been better. Also, like Phillip said, the transitions were very odd and didn’t make sense whatsoever. The combat was really fun and quite challenging, especially in the gunship section.

There was a glitch were I couldn’t get the Super Gravity Gun, but I reloaded a save and it worked.

For a HL2: Ep2 map, I found it to be really lengthy. It’s about 25-30 minutes long.

Overall, I recommend this map to everyone. It’s fun, challenging and nice to look at, which is what every map should be like.

  12. Play It Later

Good map. For some parts, it took some time to find what to do next, and the transitions are a bit odd. But overall the map is very good!

  13. Play It Later

I love HL1, right up till you get to Xen. HL2 till you loose your weapons. Loved this right up till…
