I played through this one it’s a kind of maze with enemy respawn (combines with torch, zombies, head crabs) and you only have the crowbar. So seems like nothing is interesting here…but there is still an originality because at the starting point you have a ladder with on the upper floor, health and some weapons for witch you need to pay…Each time you kill an enemy and regarding its power you will recieve gold credits (1,2,4 piece gold,)so you can increase your power…Sadly I didn’t find any exit or way to finish the map.

  2. I liked the idea of purchasing health and ammo, but the level design itself — the bland brick maze and respawning enemies — wears thin very quickly.

Not a map I’d recommend, when there are som many excellent ones on PP to choose from.

  3. Phillip says Maybe

Geez, I really can’t enjoy these sorts of maps but a lot of people seem to, that’s why I gave it a MAYBE.

perhaps back in 2006, the gold system was pretty cool and that concept could certainly be extended, but again, I’m not really into that sort of thing.

the maps themselves are pretty boring and I think that’s the key really.

All in all, I won’t play this again but if you enjoy these never-ending maps you might, but I doubt it.

  4. Maybe?

I suppose this could be fun for 10-15 minutes or so, but after that, it becomes super boring – at least for me anyway.

The concept is interesting but I wish I could see how much gold I have. I guess the map is called Wizardly because of this certain RPG element. The architecture is as bland and generic as it could be; just brick walls and simple lighting, like the Windows 98 maze.

At one point I found a wall that could lead to a hidden passage, and then I bought the pistol and I gave up.

The enemies are infinitely respawning, so if you really like killing them then this is for you. I don’t think I could recommend this map to someone without getting bored of it really quickly.

    Maybe?

One to try out and see if you like it.

It got boring. Maybe because I like to win or lose, but not go on forever. Things like tower defense, escort duty, extreme platforming and infinite enemies don’t do it for me. I don’t mind a balance or little of all, just not the total focus.

This one is infinite enemies, but the purchase system was a little different for half-life.

For me it was a play once for 10 minutes and then go on.

  6. Think Twice

I thought the idea sounded umm okay, but in the end, it was just really boring. Another map I just didn’t “get”… and not something that gives me any HL2 vibe. Sorry.

    Think Twice

The review above are spot on. There’s something of interest here, in the gold system and buying health and weapons from the shop. But the repetitive visuals and the ultra-boring layout really sinks this map for me. The deadliest things here are certainly the doors, which tank your health really fast if you’re caught in them.

This map would have been miles better if a) there were landmarks or interesting visuals and b) if there were a sense of progression. As it stands there is no end that I could find, so it’s wandering around the same set of brick corridors, rooms, and deadly doors until you get bored.

  8. Think Twice

Wizardly is a boring maze map. The map uses boring brick textures which you get tired of pretty quick. The enemies are also boring; CP’s with stunsticks, headcrabs and zombies. When you kill an ememy you get gold which you can spend in a shop to buy health, suit power, ammo, etc. It’s easy to forget where the shop is, and it’s also a shame that you can’t see how much gold you currently have. The doors in the maze are also pretty broken. They will do alot of damage when you get stuck between them and a wall. In fact, while playing I got more damage from the doors than the enemies.

  9. Think Twice

I played for about 5 minutes before getting bored with only fighting with a crowbar and killing headcrabs, cops and zombies. Darn doors got me a few times too.

    Think Twice

Possibly, this was a map to test a proof of concept. And it feels more like a dynamic that may work in a NES or SEGA game. But here in HL2 just feels weird. You know, collect gold for each enemy you kill and then “buy” ammo and limited weapons to kill endless spawning enemies is just plain boring.

I really don’t know if the map has a coherent end. I think it doesn’t. Is just a big endless spawning arena map which took place in narrow brick hallways.

    Yeah, that’s it. Think Twice.

  11. Think Twice

I did not need a lot of time to get what this map is. It tries to give you an arcade feel, something that does not fit really well in vanilla Half Life 2. These brick walls, toh, I can’t really stand them anymore.
3/10 would like to forget how much cash do I have.

  12. Avoid It!

Disappointing. The concept sounds fun, but this just ended up being way too difficult and frustrating for it’s own good. The doors kill you, the corridors are cramped, and the store is hard to find and overpriced. You never know how much gold you have on you as well. Avoid this.

  13. Avoid It!

Bland, no objectives tbh and no ending judging of course. Just run around and kill zombies and metropolices. You think it’s fun but not when you kill them for a hundredth time.
