This is an interesting Guildhall map. As with many of these releases it features a new mechanic – in this case the batteries power doors and the petrol cans power flame-throwers.

You role is diminished to support in this map but you feel just as important as if you were down there shooting. In fact, I felt more pressure because Alyx relied on me to do everything in the right order at the right time.

I don’t know if she can die or not but I managed to complete the map without your dying – maybe I am just freaking awesome, who knows?

There’s not much else to say except you should give this a go.

Could have been a nice diversion in something larger.

  2. Maybe?

I didn’t find it enjoyable. The design is not stunning, there are boring tasks like using levers and carrying batteries around, even more, in the darkness without flashlight. Lack of other weapons besides the crowbar prevents from enjoying small encounters on our side which the map gives.

In the end, I installed the batteries and a gear, the generator started to work, but the elevator didn’t. So the puzzle is either broken or too hard. Also, it’s not possible to detach the batteries from the generator, so if Alyx didn’t make it and you notice it too late, you can’t open the doors for her. Second playthrough revealed that this was the reason of elevator freeze.

Conclusion: needs more thought, more detailed and believable design and more work on gameplay.

    1. I was going to ask if you fitted the missing gear, but I see that you did. Hmm dunno, worked ok for me..

  3. Play It Now!

I liked it.Not difficult and really there isnt much to fight but still fun

I did a vid of my first playthrough and will post a link when youtube is done whatever it does.

  4. Think Twice

Some good ideas but they weren’t done as well as they could have been.

It was an interesting idea for the player to protect Alyx using traps but there were some serious oversights in design. One of the barriers being barriers, you get limited batteries to power traps and doors but the doors let the zombies in so you can either have the trap running or the zombies so splattering zombies is quite clunky and unrewarding.
The interactions with the traps are also quite limited, you can either turn them on or off and after that player interaction doesn’t really play a part at all. And I’m pretty sure Alyx can handle herself so I never really felt involved in the action. My role pretty much amounted to flicking a few switches and waiting for the wave of zombies to end.
The map wasn’t bad, the environment was clear enough to understand what did what and there were no major annoyances (although I would have prefered to have a HEV suit so I could see my hud) and I didn’t notice any bugs in my playthrough. It’s alright.

    Play It Now!

This is a good guidhall project, is grat if you like passive combat.

In personal, i’m getting tired of just being playing a lot of puzzle maps that has been released by now, so if you like to see more combat against CMB action this may not like you.

But overall is good, good new mechanics, but is kind of hectic as you have to CO-work with alyx to reach the end, also in bad points, no HEV suit so no sprint, also no fire guns weapons at all, which I hate in HL maps.

  6. Play It Later

not too bad.. however I found this a bit repetetive…….and too short….. but overall not a bad map …..
most people dont realise how much work goes into a short map like this and with the inclusion of the puzzles this map would of took a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks
I did like the way the author managed to get the “feel of ravenholm” with just the right amount of light ( or darkness ) and not too many zombies…..
if only the map was longer I would of given it a PN ….. but overall not too bad

  7. Play It Later

It’s more of a puzzle map than anything, since I don’t think Alyx can actually die. I had an issue the first time I played it because I accidentally left Alyx behind a door, and the batteries completely lock into place in the final station. Once I realized my mistake I couldn’t remove one of the batteries to go back and get her. Kind of interesting, but I didn’t really like being so far away from the action without even a pistol to help her.

Alyx won’t follow me in the last room 🙁

    Maybe?

OK it looks like one zombie was stuck behind some machine in there and Alyx’s trigger was after all zombies were dead. It’s a short mod that resembles what we have today in dm, a game mode called deathrun, where the combine team of 1 player turns on switches to kill the rebel players of the other team that have to run through deathtraps and if at least one reaches the end of the map alive, he gets to choose how to kill the combine. Trust me, that’s more fun since all traps are more fun, timed better and the victims aren’t mindless slow zombies 😛

  11. Play It Later

A short, pointed puzzle map. Guide Alyx through a maze of zombies, activating deathtraps to take out the zombies and ensure her survival. At one point, Alyx got stuck outside a door, and I had to reload in order to continue. Aside from that, very enjoyable.

  12. Avoid It!

I wouldn’t say that this is a great map, but it’s an alright map; not very exciting.
