Half-Life: Crowbar-Deep in the Dead (Demo)

for Half-Life

Half-Life: Crowbar-Deep in the Dead is a complete re-imagining of the first episode of DOOM (1993), taking all of the original levels from Knee-Deep in the Dead and remaking them in the style of Half-Life and its many expansions.

Take control of Dr. Stan Blazkowicz, a Black Mesa engineer thrust into a fierce battle for survival as he fights off hordes of aliens and military troops, shooting and blasting his way through some of the most iconic levels in FPS history. Will you live through this alien hellscape long enough to see tomorrow, or will you be just another body strewn about in the ruins of Black Mesa?

Note: this release is a demo including 4 playable maps. Unfortunately the full version of Half-Life: Crowbar-Deep in the Dead is now on indefinite hiatus.

Classic of the Month Stream – Echoes – November 2020

November, already! Or, at last, if you’re in the U.S. Anyway, time for another Classic of the Month stream. This time it’s a relatively recent release from 2018: the superb Half-Life: Echoes by James ‘MrGnang’ Coburn. It’s one of the best-looking HL mods out there, thanks in no small part to the excellent Nightwatch textures. And it’s been a little while since I’ve picked a true classic Half-Life mod to play, but Echoes certainly qualifies.

I’ll be streaming this Saturday November 21st, about 12pm (noon) Eastern US Time (5pm in the UK, 6pm Central Europe).

Twitch is again the streaming platform! The stream will be on the RunThinkShootLive Twitch Channel.

TWHL Tower 2

for Half-Life

Five years ago, you fought and ascended the first tower alone. You thought it would be over, that that would be the end.

But you were sorely mistaken. You’ve received a new call to another tower’s roof and you meet an “old acquaintance” that kept insisting that a team should have been dispatched rather than a “lone wolf.”

You start to have a feeling of déjà vu – except this time, there’s a long descent ahead of you. And if you explore and observe well enough, the sub-basement bonus map will be unlocked!

Work your way through 25 floors from 18 mappers in this superb sequel to TWHL Tower!

Halloween Horror 3: Bone Room – Map Labs Test Tube #11

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

We’ve all come to love the annual Halloween Map Labs challenge. This year the challenge was only a Test Tube, so mappers only had a week and a half to build their scary, creepy entry. The theme was (B)one Room – the ever popular Map Labs motif now applied to the Halloween challenge, so mappers had to make a single room spooky!

This challenge proved to be as popular as the best of the Map Labs contests – with a whopping 28 entries (including 5 bonus maps). Enjoy!

As always, if you’re interested in learning more about Map Labs and maybe even participate in their upcoming challenges, visit the Map Labs Discord.

Bridge the Gap 2.0

for Half-Life

Those pesky HECU boys are at it again. Just look at what they’ve gone and done this time. Lowering the bridge leading to the surface elevator and then sealing off the control room. Even worse than that, this part of the facilty is crawling with Xenians and their ongoing dispute with the Black Mesa Science Team over how dead they should be doesn’t appear to be easing off at all!

Author’s Note: This map has been designed and tested with the hardest difficulty in mind and as such, plays best on Skill 3. You can set this in the console before starting the map, by simply typing skill 3

This map is a 2020 remake of the author’s Bridge the Gap, made as an unofficial Goldsource map for the BridgeVille mapping challenge from 2017!

Classic of the Month Stream – Help Wanted – October 2020

The next Classic of the Month stream will be Help Wanted by Bryan ‘Zouave’ Dillow. A map pack set in the classic BMRF, placing you as a sanitation engineer with some cleaning up to do, of course…

I’ll be streaming Saturday October 24th, about 12pm (noon) Eastern US Time (5pm in the UK, 6pm Central Europe).

Please note: I’ve switched back to Twitch as the streaming platform! The stream will be on the RunThinkShootLive Twitch Channel.

G String

At long last, the full standalone version of G String is released, now on Steam. If you’ve played the beta or followed the long development of this mod turned retail game, the time has finally come to savor the full experience of G String by Eyaura!

Slip into the Standard Issue Biosuit as Myo Hyori, a gifted Korean teenage girl who must face the perils of the future. Survive many hazards, explore a seemingly endless metropolis and beyond as the world around you implodes and history marches towards its inevitable conclusion.

This is a cyberpunk inspired first person shooter with light environmental puzzles and a long, detailed singleplayer campaign focused on story and world building. G-String aims for an old school approach where there is minimal hand holding and your biosuit automatically keeps track of your health stats, ammunition count and armor condition.

You need supplies to heal yourself, replenish your ammo/armor but your suit automatically takes care of your lights, sprinting and breathing (open air and underwater). Your on-board neuro-enhancers, air filters and light sources automatically recharge using movement and/or sunlight.

Courtesy of Bortz Bioengineering your biosuit is very resilient but you do have to be careful: prolonged exposure to toxins will lead to fatal failure! You need to watch out for all sorts of environmental hazards, especially later on when the pace picks up considerably.

Your telekinetic/pyrokinetic abilities will be available from the start and throughout most of the game, they should be enough to make progress until there are more means of input available. Worthy to note that initially your night-vision will be disabled as your biosuit was damaged presumably in earlier lab experiments.

Classic of the Month Stream – The Xeno Project 2 – September 2020

The next Classic of the Month stream will be The Xeno Project 2. I streamed its predecessor The Xeno Project just about 4 years ago, and if you recall at the conclusion I had successfully launched myself into orbit (thankfully in a rocket). However, my capsule was promptly captured by the G-man and his army, with the promise that the story was “To be continued…”

Avid viewers may remember I didn’t exactly let them take me alive. But I’ll pick up where I was supposed to leave off anyway!

I’ll be streaming Sunday September 27th, about 12pm (noon) Eastern US Time (5pm in the UK, 6pm Central Europe).

Please note: I’ve switched back to Twitch as the streaming platform! The stream will be on the RunThinkShootLive Twitch Channel.

Deeper Down

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

In 2013’s Half Life 2 mod Deep Down, Jim Partridge took several key aspects from Episode Two, Alyx and the car, and expanded on these in an attempt to re-create that amazing Half-Life 2 feeling that everyone is looking for. Now, with seven additional years worth of level and environment design experience, Jim has taken another swing at the concept. With thirteen almost entirely new maps, new environments, new gameplay concepts, new puzzles, custom models (care of Ed Vincent), and original music (from Anicator), Deeper Down asks you to hit the road one last time and take down the one enemy who’s always been watching.

Once again RunThinkShootLive partnered with Map Labs to bring you another Ville sequel. This time, it’s the follow-on to perhaps the highest quality mapping challenge we have here at RTSL: the excellent FusionVille.

  • Vertical
  • Episode One
  • Two Rooms
  • Think Tank
  • Companion Piece
  • Back on Track

So here is FusionVille 2, Map Labs #10. It has 10 entries along with 2 bonus maps. Hope you enjoy, there are some pretty unique maps here!
