Nice while it lasts, but where’s the ending? I wish mappers would make it clear when the goal is reached instead of leaving us wandering around looking for an exit.

  2. didn’t find any exit it’s a short experience (5 min) with 10 combines in a kind of a shool open area you will also meet Mr Breen but for me there is nothing else to do

    Avoid It!

I made this when I was only 7 years old & it wasnt ment for every 1 to see sorry

  4. Seven? Shit…

    School, Killing…

I’ve never liked to see those two words together in one sentence. The word “game” makes it twice as bad!

Is it recommendable? Besides the fact, that CrAzY doesn’t want us to see what he hammered? 😀

  5. Avoid It!

It’s just a bad, unfinished game. There’s nothing worth mentioning about it, other than the fact that I think it’s amazing that a 7 year old made it.

  6. Phillip says Avoid It!

I feel bad about posting maps like this. Not because they are bad but because the authors are so young or inexperienced.

In this case, the author claims to have been 7 years old when he made this and if that is true, then it’s pretty impressive really.

However, putting aside anything but the actual level itself, it’s not very good.

Why do I keep adding maps like this? Well, I do it because it fits the criteria of the site and I want this to be the most comprehensive site as it possibly can. You wouldn’t expect a library to only carry the good books would you?

Sometimes there is benefit in having everything and seeing the development of mapping over many years.

Yes, this review has turned into a rant now – sorry.

There’s no obvious ending and the combat is not challenging.

But see, here’s what I don’t get. Wasn’t this map already added? How else did we have reviews from 2006 above this one? What’s different now that warranted giving it front page exposure for a second time?

  7. Avoid It!

I guess it’s impressive that the author made this when they were 7 years old, but it’s definitely not worth playing. It’s basically just one room with some metrocops in it. There are a lot of door textures that do nothing, yet the only working door in the map is the same texture. I guess the computer with “THE END” in bullet holes on it is kinda clever. There’s really nothing else to say about this map, it’s not the worst map I’ve ever played but it’s too small to be of any value.

  8. Think Twice

exept the architecture there is nothing to save here especially in term of gameplay but for the design it deserve a ‘think twice’

  9. Think Twice

is it me,or has the quality of maps significantly dropped … dont get me wrong im no mapper/modder myself so i shouldnt critisize any map, however lately theres been no actual “play it now” quality maps or mods and it seems to be a long line of day1 maps
prior to run, think, shoot, live the “planetphillip” quality of maps and mods were top notch and allthough many were not out of this world they were still decent quality
ive given”le mesa” and thinktwice as no one deserves avoid it … but a few more days or even hours on these maps may have made all the difference … add a few triggers .. and some more stuff in the rooms ( such as a few computer terminals ) … and try using more than the one texture ( the hammer editor has hundreds of wall textures ) ..
come on guys …. spends a bit more time and lets see some “play it now ” maps !

    1. JG

This map was made way back in 2004, more than 10 years ago.

La Mesa? Hey, that’s the name of a GTA vehicle! 😀

    1. It’s also a city near where I live. 🙂

That said: I’m going to avoid it, obviously nothing more than maybe here means it’s not for me.

    Think Twice

If this was really done by a 7 YO kid, then that’s impressive and worthy of respect. That’s for sure.

But, now from a gamer point of view I think the whole map is very short and the combat is just too cramped and heaped in that school yard, although it was good for a battle against the metro cops.

I also didn’t like there wasn’t anything to tell you: you kill breen well done thanks for playing.

Is it perfect for a 5 minute break? Maybe, but i guess is just too short and too simple so think twice.

  12. Think Twice

I think killing people in schools isn’t cool (terrible) and between, this school is pretty empty and the janitors haven’t rocket launchers as I tought (I mean, it’s not challenging, I finished it without deaths and with the pistol only!)
1/10 would (NOT) kill the janitors again

  13. Avoid It!

Wasn’t very lengthy and the end screen never actually happened so I had to no clip to find it

  14. Think Twice

From one point of view, this map is actually good, because it makes design look as complex as possible. But that point of view is from 2004, and by 2019 standards the map looks like someone was experimenting with Hammer. I mean, I laughed at Crowbar’s appearance and Breen’s animation, but the plot is confusing and there is no ending.

At least fighting Metrocops was satisfying.

    Overall, stay at school, kids.

  15. Avoid It!

Very buggy map. Nothing interesting, short and crooked.

  16. Maybe?

A small map where you shoot a lot of Metrocops and Dr. Breen, that’s it really.

The level design is, honestly, quite nice, nothing that I’ve seen before in the initial days of Half-Life 2 modding/mapping. The only weapons you can get is the crowbar, the pistol and the SMG from defeated Metrocops, a fine selection that can kill all enemies in not much time.

Overall, a simple and small, nicely decorated and some interesting design here and there. I would say to play it when you just want to see something different than concrete corridors.
