C5

for Half-Life

14th May 2015

This time there is a greater variety of enemies.

We are still in a large room with ramps and hidden areas.

There’s only so much of this we can take.

Look on the bright side, this is the last one!

    Maybe?

Single map. Run around or sneak on platforms and ramps. Shoot a mixture of enemies. Find the scientist(s). Further development of C2 and C3. OK, about 15 mins play.

  2. Avoid It!

Yet another “cX” map (x=number), very old, very basic and very similar to “c2”, and and “c3” as again from the same author.
A single room with spawning enemies, kill all, find scientist, done.. BOOOOOOOOOORING!

    Pro’s:
-Lot of ammo, health + HEV batteries

    Con’s:
    -Very easy leveldesign
    -Way too easy difficulty
    -Very short playtime
-HEV not at start, but “found” quick
-No variance, story, puzzles – just as in “c2” & “c3”

  3. Phillip says Maybe

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.

Shakespeare clearly wasn’t talking about playing the third in the “C” series, but what better speech to quote when you have to play something you feel has already been done and over done?

It’s hard to know if this is the same or worse than the previous two. If I had played this release first I might feel that the last one I play is the worse, simply from overload of such a basic concept.

Anyway, there’s nothing more to be said than the description.

Play it if you want to see the difference between the others or you just want to play everything.

  4. Think Twice

Have you ever seen any “killbox” map in HLDM? If so, then you’ll realize this is pretty much a singleplayer version of them, just with better textures. The gameplay is a balance between boring and annoying and the map doesn’t even have proper ending. You reach the scientist and that’s it. Not even fading to black. Not worth your time.

PS: I didn’t bother to try earlier versions because this one was supposed to be better and I wasn’t even expecting much.

I don’t think C2 and C3 are “versions” of this, just different areas.

      1. Are they? Well, I still don’t think it’s worth it.

        1. I actually enjoyed C3 more than the others.

  5. Play It Later

Then I started this map, I expected bad. But I made a mistake! That mod was a pretty good to play! I like a “massacre” maps. This map isn’t endless and what’s good.I’m really enjoyed it!

    Maybe?

This was slightly better than the 2 previous ones, and I guess that’s why I recommend it as a maybe?, but basically is the same Deathmatch map that goes SP concept. Here you may be found more challenging to play against some assassins and some Xen Grunts, but those are the novelty in here.

There’s really nothing much more to say about this. just the perfect 5 minute HL1 combat arena.

  7. Think Twice

there was a slight improvement regarding C2 and C3 in therm of gameplay but for the design there is nearly nothing to save here like already said this is just a ‘killbox’

this is really for people who like to play everything 🙂

    and where are C1 and C4 ?

    Avoid It!

More of the same. I really wish C3 and C5 were up to the level of C2! This, like C5, is too easy for my taste. Yes, the enemies are tougher (alien grunts and assassins by the end) – but once again you’re well armed.

Just another in the killbox style. Not really worth your attention, though.

On a separate note, these 3 maps were by the “Handy Vandal” (Karl Jones), who was well known back in the early HL days for an awesome site that collected mapping and modding links known as the Handy Vandal’s Almanac. A fantastic resource back in the day!

  9. Avoid It!

Is weird, I actually liked this style of map! But I have to agree with the others in that it was too short and easy, you have LOTS of health kits and weapons around the level, but even if I liked the map, I’ll still have to give it a “Avoid it”, though I would like to see this concept a lot more refined and with some kind of different levels or progression

  11. Maybe?

If playing on Hard I have to say it might be a walk to the park in the beginning because you can stay away from troubles using different levels. When aliens spawns it’s recommended to stay on the lowest ground so they can kill each other while you are hidden below in the corner. The hardest part are actually the assassins which I woud save my grenade launcher for them. At least walking won’t save you much. So the only best tactic is save and try your luck on guessing where it is and shoot out with MG. The last part is critical so I hope you have enough health and ammo for those assassins. And because of them I have to say it is the most difficult between all C2,C3,C5. You have to know assassins are total ghosts on hard, they can whipe out 100 of HP in a question of seconds when you trapped in that world “Where are you?”
