A fun little HL mod. It’s not perfect but if you love old style mods with a bit of horror you will probably enjoy this. The enemies are pretty good, but It’s a bit repetitive in places and some things are unnecessarily long like the boat ride. I also had difficulty with the area with the witches as the mechanism for what you are supposed to do is not clear. I thought I must need a gravity gun and wasted a lot of time searching for one. A quick search of Youtube provided the solution and I was back on my way. Overall it was well worth playing.

Good old fellow OFC member Swiiss_Cheese. Gotta check this again. He had mod for GoldSrc too?
This is Goldsrc! It’s a much expanded version of his original Swiss_Cheese Halloween which only had the neighborhood I think.
Ack, i meant that he had mod for Source engine too… Pumpkin Night Redux. I gotta find Swiss again.
Ok, so there are some things to say about this classic one.
Maybe the most important thing to say is that is indeed a classic. I remember I played this one around 2006 or 2007, and maybe it was one of those I played back then when I didn’t use to review any mod. So in fact playing this again was like a total fresh restart because I didn’t remember many parts of the mod.
The whole concept of the mod is well applied in general as basically, you face a Halloween survival-horror adventure once you step into the basement of that old abandoned house in your neighborhood and summon the evil spirits of death.
So once your journey starts are filled with very cool NPCs and even a cool horror-like UFO. You know to me this fun mod makes references to all the classic American horror styles there are available in the mass culture. So that’s a cool touch in general.
Also, the castle and the hell final levels are pretty nicely done and that finale is just a great way to end up our horrific story.
Overall and despite the sometimes predictable gameplay this mod is a horror HL total conversion classic you must try if you want to explore the horror genre in the modding world.

Very good entry with custom models. The combat is very easy, I barely take damage. Enemies somehow drop weapons when they die, this happens when you’re on your way to a UFO. The puzzles here are simple yet hard especially for the first time. You gotta be smart to solve it through without a walkthrough and I got stuck with two puzzles: one with the cauldron, and the boss battle or if you call it a boss since you can’t kill it.
It isn’t great, but isn’t long either, so consider trying if you’re for hour and a half of shooting down monsters. Mapping is done poorly here, but overall setting can make up for it. Hovewer, you can’t play this without looking up walkthroughs and loading maps with impulse 101, and that is a hassle not everyone is willing to go through. Mostly recommended for HL historical reasons. So yeah… do with it what you want…
