  1. Play It Now!

I really enjoyed this one. Combat was well paced, graphics were gorgeous, and puzzles were not over the top difficult, except the climbing part…. The map played perfectly on the new Definitive Edition.

I can’t figure out if there are more BM maps around that still work on the new Black Mesa? I heard all the past bm maps don’t work since something was changed. On the BM Steam workshop there is no longer a search capability to find maps.

Yeah, unfortunately most if not all of the Black Mesa maps here on RTSL won’t work with the latest version of the game. And unless the authors release map updates, we can’t go back and fix things. I’ve tried repeatedly, for example, to get in touch with the authors of BlackMesaDoorVille to try and get the maps updated but I only got a couple authors to respond (plus JamaicanDave has added his map to the BM Workshop).

I think every Black Mesa Ville map by JamaicanDave and Maki are on the BM Workshop at least.

There are single player maps on the BM Workshop but yes they are a pain to find, the singleplayer map tag is useless since it also shows a bunch of skin/music/etc. mods too.

      1. Yeah searching the BM workshop isn’t great. There’s an awful lot of trash on it and I’d guess about 2/3rds of single player maps tagged stuff doesn’t belong there. I have stuck all my maps on there and updated for definitive edition, Maki’s stuff’s on too and runs fine. I looked around Christmas and there a few maps worth trying – Further Data, Hazard Course, Access Point, Going Around, Stojkeholm. They should all work with the current game version, but a lot of other maps don’t.

        1. Thanks! it really is ‘disorganized’. I hope our site updates what does and doesn’t work under BM, especially as there are so few new HL maps these days.

I figured out how to search there a bit better. I got all those and am currently playing Further Data which is excellent. Despite being newer posts there, I couldn’t get dungeon Crawler or Doorville An Extra Step to play. It seems the console command startup method doesn’t work, they have to show up in the workshop tab now.

        2. Just played Azure Sheep after subscribing to it in the Workshop. It’s a bit tricky to install and play, and a bit buggy, but there is enough good content to make it worth the effort.

          1. Thanks for that heads up, I had overlooked it, thinking it was going to be the same as the HL version, which its not. A huge undertaking, long gameplay with bugs as you say. Definitely worth playing, however I had multiple places where it was impossible to proceed, had to load a subsequent map to carry on.

  2. Play It Now!

This was very good. I enjoyed having to think of solutions to progress instead of just blindly moving forward. I also enjoyed the double ending; it was cleverly done.

  3. Play It Later

This was OK, bit of a new foray for me as I’ve played virtually nothing Black Mesa so far. The interface and some of the controls initially threw me, just little things like weapons switch or using the consul…press ‘enter’ means ‘fire’, not ‘OK’, etc…I admit I had to noclip twice as I couldn’t really work the puzzles out, my bad, just not used to it. That crowbar is a bit fierce..some of the sounds were unexpected…like I said, just little things. Anyway, once I’d stumbled through it, I thought ‘yeah, that was quite good, looked nice’…It’s worth a play though.

  4. Play It Now!

Pretty good and solid campaing, nothing special about it, but it’s more Black Mesa, so i recommend it.

These maps won’t work with the final release of BM, we’re better off downloading map from the Workshop.

That’s why the link points to the workshop page.

  6. Play It Later

I don’t know why I finished it so late but I can say I found it quite good

    Play It Now!

This one was a sweet piece. Quite neat and nicely done. The combat pace was great and the whole mapping designs were very detailed, almost Valve quality.

I truly liked it and enjoyed it overall.

Is a solid Play It Now.
