  1. Phillip says Maybe

I was a little disappointed with this. The start was pretty good and the initial BM area was nicely done. But then suddenly things went strange, I turned a corner in the stairwell and things looked as if the the mapper fell asleep.

The area became cramped and twisted, almost as if you didn’t plan properly.

Then there was the jumps between sections and opening the door for Shepard and level changes in the middle of a firefight.

I jumped to xen and before I could do anything came back again.

The final section could have been fun but putting the vortigaunts in a vertical line was wasteful.

Finally the assassins appeared but you could just run past them.

All in all it was definitely not as much fun as it could have been and certainly wasn’t tested properly.

This is the proverbial school report: Could do better!

how do u get this to work as i added it to my folder and it didnt work it just starts the original half life

It’s not all bad. Sometimes you get stuck, and there’s no hints to help you. Most levels are unnecessarily large, dark, and designed like mazes with dead ends. I liked the huge teleporter at the ending, it was done well.

You can also try out the bonus maps listed in “Bonus maps.TXT”.

    Play It Now!

Well I played this quite a bit ago, and I liked it, for me the layout was ok and those ups and downs in the design didn’t bother me at all, I just keep on fighting as almost all the mods or maps i’ve played, it has some cool battles, and I liked the fact to play as a security guard again, so yep, for me this have not much inconvenients, so let’s play it and have a good time!

  4. Maybe?

I agree with Phillip… Some parts of the mod were truly awesome but many other parts were just weird.. For example there was one area that almost looked like it was compiled in fullbright (That means no lights it’s just very bright.) It wasn’t the case of course but I think the mapper should have played a bit more with the lightning in some areas.

What I liked though was the Op4 crossover I always love mods which are doing crossovers with the original hl1 games…

All in all it isn’t that bad so give it a try if you’re bored. The fact that hl1 mods are really rare these days alone makes it worth playing it. Have fun but don’t expect anything godlike.

    23-down

    Maybe?

I think for once Phillip and I really exactly agree on a mod. This one had some decent parts but in total it was a letdown.

First, I do want to thank the author for including a translation. There is some custom voice acting in French, but thankfully for the important parts the instructions are on-screen in English, although only for a few seconds so read fast. There isn’t much puzzle element or exploration here, it’s pretty linear. And it never quite feels like Black Mesa, it’s too tight and confined.

There were a couple of annoyances with this pack. There was at least one place, that if you explored, you could get stuck in an area without a way of getting back on the ‘main path’. And the jump from the bathroom floor back up into the ceiling vent was just an exercise in frustration, that needed to be easier.

Tying in with the Opposing Force opening was clever and decently handled, although in the sequence after that I was never challenged although it could have been made into a decent tough finale.

  6. Think Twice

Another mod where I kept getting stuck in place at map changes!

I finished this yesterday (at least I think I did?), going by the shots above that last chamber was the end. Due to getting stuck in place at map changes quite often and once in a lift without a map change, I did not enjoy this one bit. The look and architecture was good at times but strange at others and even with out getting stuck the flow was choppy at best. Definitely this should have been a candidate for some serious beta testing as it had the potential to be a half way decent game, but alas it wasn’t to be!

For me playing a game should be fun, but this wasn’t fun.

  7. Barnz

Opposing Force tie-in was unnecessary, and badly done. Why would anyone have a giant teleporter built right next to an infirmary?

  8. Avoid It!

Couldn’t make the bathroom jump no matter what, despite knowing all the methods. I will never use a cheat, so after several restarts later I had to quit.

That very unusual happening = epic FAIL in terms of the mapper, and gets the lowest possible rating.

  9. Maybe?

Little story mod about escaping the BMRF after the incident, being Otis, the overweight security guard.
The mission is to find a scientist who can fix the tram for escaping.

    Pro’s:
    -Quite good mapping, beginning intro
    -Fair balanced
    -A few surprises
    -A few scripts
    -Good story

    Con’s:
-Bugs & flaws (getting stuck, silly jump required, mapchange during firefight)
    -Confusing sometimes somehow
-Less combat, but also less health
-Lighting – started awesome, then too bright, then too dark
    -Short playtime

  10. Maybe?

Quite bland, it has some decent puzzles but was kinda boring for the most part.

  11. Avoid It!

The level design is poorly made. I can’t get past the bathroom after flooding it
