“Pit Stop takes place along Highway 17 within the Half Life universe. Using the buggy, Gordon is heading to a small rebel outpost to warn then of a Combine assault. In his way, Gordon is ambushed and locked away in a Combine prison that was converted from a convenience store / gas station.
I primarily focused on these three things while designing the level: Becoming familiar with the Half Life 2 engine, Design a creative gameplay experience using a unique entity in the scripting tools, Utilize scripted sequences to control AI behavior.
The entity I picked was the physics_cannister. I created a sort of propane filling machine and made a template for the propane canisters. The player could shoot the canister and it would go flying through the level until colliding with a destructible wall or exploding after the timer expired. The player is able to pull a lever and create a new canister.”

Call me harsh but this level was not particualrly exciting. Image 2 show the escape out of the cell, I was thinking “Is this 2001?”. That’s the last time that kind of thing was cool. The author seems more interested in the machine that gives you cannisters than actually anything else.
Anyway, it’s a portfolio piece so I shouln’t be too hard.
So, once you escape the cell it’s a simple matter of reaching the buggy, assuming you can kill metrocops that is!
Nothing exciting. A few rooms, you go outside and it finishes. Mapping is not good so no reason to play.
I regreted playing this. Boring game. Boring level design. Borong game play.
This could have been livened up by taking on a strider or 2 or a pack of hunters from the garage door.
Something, anything, to make you feel that something has been achieved.
This wasn’t bad.
I made it a little more challenging for myself because I only used grenades at first. That wasn’t intentional–I just knew there was an unlimited crate for them; for some reason the pistol ammo crate didn’t register. 🙂
Boring and ugly mapping, boring combat, mostly easy puzzles except one confusing one, really short and the most interesting thing is a machine that dispenses exploding canisters. Don’t play this.
