OpFor Postal

for Opposing Force

17th November 2012

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

You Adrian Shephard, have tracked down some more evil scientists who are allies of the Black Ops.

You were able to sneak into the lab unnoticed and have the element of surprise.

Your mission is to eliminate all of the scientists and let none of them escape. Remember you are a grunt after all.

It’s time to go postal once again.

Additional Notes

The spawned scientists will not be automatically afraid of you like the original scientists will be. They may even talk to you and follow you. They will also spawn as the same scientist, the type with glasses. This is an uncontrollable aspect of spawning scientists. It shouldn’t effect the fun of waxing them though.

Author’s Notes

“This level is a complete remake of my map Postal for Opposing Force. It’s bigger, has better design, and has more scientists. Like its predecessor, it’s designed to to be a stress reliever. It’s a healthy and effective way to release aggression and stress. I have included some scripted sequences and some breakable computers. When you have cleared the level, you can activate the on switch in the last room and scientists will continually spawn throughout most of the map. This will practically give you unlimited targets. To stop the spawning, activate the off switch. Enjoy.”

1 map. Kill the many scientists and a couple of Barneys with any weapon you choose (they’re all there). Find a button, push it and the scientists spawn again. Kill Kill KILL. BLOOD! SPLATTERING FLESH! BODY PARTS!! SPLAT! BOOM!
    Sorry.

    1. Giblets nd gravy huh?… Damn another one that’s gone 404 on us..

A funny thing happened while playing this map.

I pulled out the sniper rifle and shot the guard, took a step forward, waited for the scientist to walk up and look at me (it just so happens that his face is centered in the crosshairs), and I shot him. Then the darndest thing happened: HE RAN OFF!!! I thought, “What in the World.” I then heard from my right speaker, “I seem to be seriously wounded.”

    1. Yeah, I would think that a headshot would be considered “seriously wounded”!

    2. You gotta love glitches like that… They ad an element of humor is nothing else..lol

  3. Ten Four Reviews

In the honored tradition of Barry Bollinger’s amusing but useless maps (including Postal and Extinct Lifeform Hunt) comes OpFor Postal. It is a complete overhaul of the original, but the point of the map is the same.

The point is: there is no point. You just go postal, killing everything. The targets include lots of scientists and a few Barnies (who actually shoot back in this version). You are outfitted at the beginning with a huge arsenal, more than you’d ever need if all you had to do was exterminate a couple dozen nerdy scientists. But these are evil scientists, so that makes overkill perfectly acceptable.

The setting is a pretty well-designed office area that will soon be filled with blood and gibs from your victims. The biggest challenge I faced was trying to catch the scientists who insisted on running away from my raised pipe wrench. The nerve. Then it was time to whip out my favorite, the snarks, and watch those scientists dance. There are even health and HEV chargers just in case you catch some of your own satchel charge shrapnel.

Like I said above, there is no point to this map. Barry says it can be used as a stress reliever, but otherwise it’s fun for just under 37 seconds before it gets old.

  4. Phillip says Avoid It!

I have to admit I didn’t enjoy this. I pay FPS games for the challenge of hitting moving targets and targets that fight back.

Running around a base killing unarmed scientists is not much fun. yes, they are supposed to be EVIL! scientists but that’s just silly.

There are much better maps to play and I really don’t like the idea behind this.

Try it if you need stress relief, although this caused me more stress than it could ever relieve.

  5. Play It Now!

In a perverse kind way this is actually fun!

Looks-wise it is just bog standard Black Mesa but the gameplay is akin to popping bubble wrap, it can be addictive. The basic premise is run around and kill everyone with your weapon of choice and when you’ve killed them all, throw a switch to get some more. Anti computer games who think that game are just mindless violence would love to complain about this one.

Where it becomes fun is the choice of weapons you have, my choice was the barnacle grapple, if you can latch on to a scientist before he runs around a corner you get a fun ride.

  6. Avoid It!

This one will probably split opinion. I don’t see the appeal of levels like this, if anything I just feel sorry for the scientists rather than being stress-relieved!

Some people might enjoy this kind of thing I guess and the mapping is OK…

  7. Maybe?

I am pretty sure I played the original version of this map years ago. It’s amusing for a few minutes, and after that it get’s kind of boring. I would have like to seen barneys spawning as well as the scientists, and more ammo. that would have made it more interesting.

    Avoid It!

I pretty much stick with my original review above. It’s a nice looking office area in the mold of Anomalous Materials, but all you’re doing is shooting scientists and a handful of guards. It’s really not much fun at all, zero challenge, and gets old really fast.

    Even for a “stress-reliever” it’s no good.

    Personal Favourite

… You read that right. I gave this a personal favorite.

This map is akin to Zombies where the point is that there is no point. You just go around killing monsters (in this case Scientists and a couple guards). While Zombies was held back by poor execution and terrible r_speeds, this is a slaughter map done right. Just turn on Godmode, bind a key to impulse 101 and have a blast.

    Think Twice

This is like a bad memmory of an old killing non sense classic mod called Scientist Slaughterhouse…, with the little differecne that SS was so much more entretaining and inovative in the way u kill poor inocent scientists…., anyway for me doing that is just stupid, and this would have been so much more interesting if those scientist were actually “EVIL” they were not so it doesn’t make so much sense to me to recreate the culumbine massacre in HL….

And actually there is a possible way to make this arena map so much more interesting, and that’s by using the code of a mod I don’t remember the name where the scientists were actually evil where they ried to inject you with poisoned syringes, so that map infested with those evild scientist would be just really a cool attempt of an original map, this is just a “run of the mill” so far….

    1. I think the mod you’re thinking of is called Blood Bath

  11. Think Twice

Few decently designed corridors and rooms in spirit of Anomalous Materials, few hostile barneys, and a lot of scientists.

Fans of going postal will be happy, others won’t.

As was said before, no challenge, no fun, would be better if the scientists were actually evil, like in Infinite Rift or Blood Bath.

  12. Avoid It!

Completely pointless. Just kill scientists until you get bored. I will never get the appeal of maps like these.
