I am only giving this a MAYBE because there isn’t much to it. It looks pretty and the little combat that is there is too short.

No doubt, it’s nice to see what BM could look like, but to be honest I didn’t feel the author got the atmosphere right. It was too square, if that makes sense.

Anyway, it’s only a short map and you could play this in your coffee break, which is where the name comes from I presume.

  2. Think Twice

That was a bit of a disappointment and just a little boring!

From what I can gather this was an unfinished project that Zwieracz then finished. The only plus point for me was that albeit briefly I was back in Black Mesa, the real negative was the Xen platform jumping.

Game-play was almost non-existent and if you run fast enough
and tread on the health giving larvae
you don’t need to fire a shot at the acid antlions. As for looks, if I hadn’t seen trailers and screen-shots for BM Source I might have said they were Ok-ish.

If you don’t need a regular BM fix, then this will not be for you.

  3. Play It Later

It’s very short but it brings back memories. Worth taking a look if you have about 15 minutes to spare.

Well im a nostalgic guy, and i’d love to se those Source BM textures again in some other HL2 mod, like BM Fallback mod, I loved that one i’d love to see more of those HL2 turned into HL1 maps again I liked to walk in the old BM compound again.

But I agree as the other guys say, it was square and pretty poor in combat, but over all it was a nice nostalgia time and with time enough to visit even Xen again.

Speaking of — Whatever happened to the long awaited “Black Mesa” release?
Is that still a “go’, or has it been scrapped/delayed, once again/still?
Will Rachel tell Mac that she’s pregnant with his brother’s child? – Oh, wait… that’s a different soap…

  6. Maybe?

I like this map but not enough to give is Play It Later. It’s still going in my keepers folder for HL2:EP2 maps but there’s not really enough to it. It’s cool to see Black Mesa and Xen five games after they debuted but that’s really all it’s got going for it. There’s an easter egg which would be cool but it doesn’t really do much. Xen is kind of fun but I didn’t even have enough ammo to kill all the Antlions (even though it was kind of cool to see Antlions in their natural habitat on Xen). Overall, if you like HL1 and want to see it inside Episode Two play this map. Otherwise it really doesn’t have much going for it.
