  1. Phillip says Maybe

There’s too many jumps in this short map for my liking. It’s as if the author wanted to either practice using certain technical skills or couldn’t create a flowing sequence.

The map isn’t bad by any means but the story is wasted and there’s little challenge or interesting settings.

The never ending zombies are “cheap” and better placement could have made them more interesting.

    It’s a “Maybe” at best.

Is Map Tap able to do the auto install job on this one????

    1. Honestly, I don’t know. MapTap currently doesn’t work on my system at the moment. Just try it and see.

      1. Hec

Ok. Thanks Phillip, I tell you I also tried maptap and just didn’t work at all and the map I tried it was, lets say “maptap-able” and didn’t work a bit..

Maybe move the download files to this new server have to do with the issue???

    Maybe?

    A story better left untold.

Like Phillip said, this map comes across like a collection of disjointed, incomplete ideas that were cobbled together into a single map. There are frequent cutscenes and other interruptions to gameplay, which mostly consists of enemies funneling into extremely narrow hallways with no cover whatsoever.

Should you find yourself stuck towards the end, maybe sure you fiddle with the computer screen next to the switch. See, that’s the thing about having too many cutscenes. When you are constantly telling the player what to do, the player stops thinking for themselves. In my case, I threw the forcefield switch well before I knew what it was for, so when the cutscene told me to go back to the switch, I couldn’t interact with it and had no idea what to do. Figuring it was broken because I did something out of order, I started over from the beginning and deliberately didn’t throw the switch. Same cutscene played out. Now I throw the switch and run back to the exit, which still has the forcefield around it. Confusing. So I make yet another reload back to the switch and realize that when I used it, the monitor next to it turned on and – yes – you have to use the monitor in order to turn off the forcefield.

Also, why even have all these cutscenes in the first place? Most of these rooms are incredibly tiny, and yet there are cutscenes showing me every nook and cranny. Even worse, the cutscenes aren’t even telling a story. Ivan’s stereotypical quest for vodka has nothing to do with the map at all (though maybe it’s for the best).

So, in the end, the map doesn’t have too much going for it and it’s also only 2-3 minutes long if you know where you are going.

  4. I can not run map ( CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: No such map ‘maps/1story.bsp’map load failed: 1story not found or invalid ).
Run through MapTap well as not working. Does anyone have this problem?

Did you install it to the right location? Following the Steampipe update, maps like this need to be placed in: Steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life 2/ep2/maps

      1. Thank you, I did it!
In the ReadMe folder specified is not the right way.

        1. JG

You generally don’t want to go by the Readme files anymore. This mod, like most others, predates the Steampipe switchover which drastically relocated everything. So the Readmes are likely incorrect.

For the most part, all standalone .bsp files belong in the proper subfolder of steam/steamapps/common/Half-Life 2. Normal HL2 maps go in /hl2, Episode 1 maps go in /episodic, and Episode 2 maps go in /ep2. Each of these has its own /maps folder you want to put the .bsp in.

    2. for some reason you need to install the maps in your “common” folder then follow the same target as you would when using the “username” path
so with this map the installation route would be : local disk c>programs(x86)>steam>steamapps>common>hl2>ep2 ( and for half life 2 maps the end would be common>halfe life 2 >hl2 ) … I also found it easier to copy and paste with the source and target folders next to each other ( which is easier with windows 7,s way of having folder side by side )
      hope this helps guys …

    Think Twice

Well this was pretty weird. And I also think give a Maybe? Recommendation is like to be in a dull and no sense limbo so I’d like to put some weight on the recommendation balance and tell you THINK TWICE.

This is just a surreal map, the very little hordes of enemies just don’t make sense, the combat areas are terribly narrow and that weird house in the map is just awful in mapping design terms.

Also the outdoor area is just far too dark and those trapped zombies in the yard are stupidly placed, at least bring some more challenge, maybe in that outdoor area a hunter or 2 would have come handy after you could even escape in the jalopy.

All in all this feels like a very poor map, more experimental than giving some cool battle or entertaining value.

Play it if you want to shoot some CMB and Zombies and lost some health points in the way…

  6. Avoid It!

The map isn’t good, at all…

Gameplay consists mostly of combine and zombies rushing towards you through hallways or small rooms. It’s a mess. When it opens up to a larger area the player can’t even get out of the door before being attacked again, forced to fall back into the building. After that the creator thought 30 slow-walking zombies would make for an intense experience. It did not…

The aestetics are mediocre at best. Nothing visually disgraceful, but nothing stunningly beautiful either. We’ll it’s supposed to fit in with the horror-theme, but… Meh, there is just nothing here to mention as particularly good.

The map is short, inconsistent, full of random fades to another room, enemies that spawn in your face, enemies that dosn’t even pose as a threat and… a car? Yeah, thrown in because of… nothing….

    I wouldn’t play it again…

  7. Maybe?

Okay, it’s crude but I actually liked it if you fancy a quick blast. A couple of well placed bombs on those zombies or just use the car to pile your way through em! #FUN
The jumps where.. umm.. okay. I liked the first one. Well, no I didn’t as I had a shotgun and then suddenly I didn’t lol.. I imagine if the whole design was better thought out then we’d have a cracker here. But honestly, I did enjoy the action here. But it’s not enjoyable adventure to immerse you for hours in some cool HL2 world… nope. It just is what it is.

  8. Maybe?

Well, this is one of the weirdest maps I’ve ever played in my life. Apart from that though, and some fairly decent gameplay, this map isn’t worth your time.

The combat ranges from pretty nice to ridiculous way too quick due to the map’s weird character. The mapping isn’t anything special; it’s just a house and a teleporter room. Lighting is ok at best.

Overall, this is a map that you should play at your own concern. It’s not anything special, but for 5-6 mins, it’s not that bad.
