Spitmouse

for Half-Life 2

20th May 2015

Collect your suit and some supplies, watch Alyx kill a zombie and start your journey into weirdness.

This is a nightmare and everywhere you look something is trying to kill you, even your supposed friends.

At one point is a leap of faith. Sometimes it’s better to have no faith.

  1. I really found this one strange some good idea or at least wierd idea but the design is below average.

  2. Gypsy James

I suspect this is a work-in-progress, there are great gaping holes in the scenery, zombies stuck in walls, walking at a funny slant, areas with enemies in that you can’t actually get to without using noclip, and no obvious attempt at a storyline or goal, other than survival.

On the plus side there is obviously quite a bit of imagination and effort that has gone into it. A room full of armed & dangerous Breens, a ventilation shaft full of armed & dangerous Alyxs….and so on.

I don’t really like criticising those that have a go at something I can’t do myself, but…..its not finished! I don’t think it should have been released just yet?!

…Or, agreeing with Stef, its weird.

  3. Phillip says Avoid It!

Anybody who reads my reviews, knows I don’t say AVOID IT! very often. Well, this is just too weird and strange to recommend anything else. When I say weird, sometimes that’s fun but not in this case. The whole map feels unfinished and also as if the author wanted it that way.

I found it a challenge to get through mostly because the number of enemies rather than interesting placement.

The zombies and zome other enemies are leaning forward which give the map a surreal feel and they die just as easily.

All in all, weird and frustrating.

    1. Based on your review Phillip, as well as the screenshots you have uploaded, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this likely isn’t for me. I dislike weird for the sake of weird maps that label themselves as “surreal.”

      It isn’t surreal. It’s broken.

      1. I’m glad I have saved you the pain but I don’t feel it’s broken. I honestly feel the authors made it that way, rather than not being able to make anything “proper”.

  4. Think Twice

being a novice mapper myself i will allways give first time mappers a fair go … however this should of never been released in its current state ….. to me it seems unfinished and not enjoyable to play
even the npc,s havent been placed correctly and some are below the floor….
that said its clear to see the authors getting the hang of things but i would recommend a visit to one of the many hl2 mapping community sites were you can get loads of help

  5. Avoid It!

    WHAT?

This is the most unintentionally(?) strange Half-Life map I’ve ever played. Glitchy textures, clusters of enemies, blocky/annoying geometry and the strangest zombies you’ll ever see. Oh yeah, and Breens with SMGs. I couldn’t find the end even after noclipping around, but according to the penultimate screenshot there are zombies that walk on the ceiling. Despite being awful I kinda enjoyed playing it because of just how insane the whole thing was, but normal (sane) people would hate this, so I’m giving it an Avoid it rating.

    Think Twice

As I consider OK some funky-freeman’s-dream, out of the box maps. I guess I recommend this as a Think Twice. never the less this is not better than an Avoid it! I guess is just as bad as the worst recomm. here in RTSL.

Here I guess we have an example of a lousy map, and i think the adjective “lousy” is well justified in this occasion, you know, a very awful map that is so badly done that has the perfect excuse to categorize it into the crazy map repertory. Anyway is pretty bad. the walls are invisible most of the time, is easy as pie to get out of the boundaries of the map itself, and sorry but that just sucks.

And I guess what sucks the most is not having a clear goal or purpose to achieve in the map. Besides the fact this map is only worthy if you want to shoot to the face and kill alyx and breen…..

  7. Think Twice

There is something wrong in this map. Everything’s weird and I think I’ll have nightmares this night not really
    2/10 would kill alix again
