Video Teaser

WARNING: This video may completely spoil the map for you. Only watch it if you are curious about the gameplay.
I’ve included this very short movie to give you some idea of what happens. The player is in the house when the map starts and like the screenshots Noclip was used to record the video. (Thanks to CubeDude89 for recording it at short notice for me.)

  1. Phillip says Play It!

I have been meaning to post this clever little map fo over a month now and when Rito emailed to say he had added it to SnarkPit I stopped procrastinating and did it.I haven’t managed to complete it yet and am very curious to find to what happens well all the transporter beacons are activated.

It’s a great little idea and it could easily be converted to be used inside some HUGE Combine facility where the gameplay idea could be incorporated into some large rotating power conducing chamber.

Still, it’s fun to play and that’s what counts in such a small map. Well done, Rito and keep up the good work.

I’ll be posting the Road map this week.

    My Recommendation

  2. Play It Now!

Wow, this is great! Such a simple concept but so much fun to play! It really gave me the feeling of achievement and made me go “Oh yeah!” whenever I worked out how to reach each beacon.

As always though, I will try and make some constructive criticism wherever possible.

    1. I think you should place 1 or 2 more beacons inside the house. Most of them were outside and it took me a while to figure out how to even get out there, let alone reach them. Having one near the start would help the player understand what they are supposed to be doing.

    2. I would have liked a little more effort in the ending, but this is really a minor niggle. I got plenty of enjoyment out of traversing the house, just thought this would have been cool.

I am going to mark this with:

However, I would point out that this maybe isn’t for everyone as it’s a very unique style of gameplay. If you’re looking for your typical run-and-gun then look elsewhere. Having said that, originality certainly works in this map’s favour and is what makes it so good.

  3. I like puzzle mods and or a challenge.I’ll try it.

  4. Crispy

Wow, this is the sort of nifty concept you might expect to see from Nintendo. +1 for originality 🙂

  5. Chris Fox

    Certainly an original idea.

I only got the chance to play for 5 minutes so far. I’m not out of the house yet, and I’ve only found one beacon.

I’ll give it another go later and rate it properly then.

    Play It Now!

That was a lot of fun, and the ambient sounds and environment sort of reminded me of Myst.I would have liked something to do in the house too, but it wasn’t a big deal.

My one criticism was the lighting, it was so bright it hurt my eyes a bit. If there was more proper lighting it could only enhance the level.

I’d love to see more levels like this!

    Play It Now!

This is a really fun little concept. The idea of getting through an environment as it shifted was disorientingly entertaining, and watching props fly through the house was funny as well. The puzzle element was there in searching for the beacons, and it was also really well executed with the many ways to get into the house as a means to save ones self from falling to certain doom sometimes.

My one complaint was that the map started rotating right when I spawned, giving me little time to figure out what was going on.

    Aside from that,

Downloaded the map. *Tried* to run it.

The program found version 20, but was expecting 19; as a result, it refused to load the map.

Ergo, while it looks like a neat concept, I’m forced to consider this map to be a huge, stinking pile of FAIL.

    1. When through the same thing anon with some other maps. make shure the bsp file is in your “steam/steamapp/username/halflife2/hl2/maps”. Phillip helped out a LOT, I’m a bit dense, but I’ve had no problems since I started putting them in the right folder AND figuring out 7zip.

  9. Xenu

Seems like a kind of like a ironic thing to say, Anonymous. Judging from the other comments, no one else has had any problem with the map. I know I didn’t.

  10. Play It Now!

DO NOT play this with a buzz..lol.. holy bejesus! This was trippy.

  11. Ade

Hmmm.. I’d like to give this a go but download links don’t work anymore, PP 🙁

  12. Play It Later

For all the newbies out there, I feel the need to mention that the level of difficulty doesn’t matter in this map. The only challenge is walking around the map, not the damage you give/receive.

The author has an interesting idea with this map. It’s not bad, but there are some things that need changed.

One of the main things I want to point out was the speed. I feel the current speed is a little too slow and that makes the map boring, which is why I’ve given it a “Play it Later” review rather than a “Play it Now !”. Perhaps a faster shifting would spice things up a bit. Although I haven’t had problems with it, the rotation should stop after you activate the 1st beacon (a.k.a the one above the player’ spawn point).

  13. Play It Later

I like the concept! Nice idea.

  14. falaya

    keep it up nice working.
