Harry The Headcrab

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

2nd May 2009

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3
Author’s Note

“The Harrowing Case of Harry the Headcrab is a Half-Life 2 level featuring carnival-style physics puzzles. The player must help the trapped Harry the Headcrab reach his destination, and the only way to do that is to solve four puzzles. Once Harry reaches his destination, the player is given a mystery reward. The focus of this level was to create several physics puzzles with a unified theme. I wanted to create a level that was easy to play and communicated the objectives to the player in a largely visual manner.”

  1. Phillip says Maybe

There’s no combat in this little map, just 4 puzzles. As with a lot of Guildhall maps, it’s more about emonstartting ability than making a great, playable level.

It required more testing, as do most maps, becasue I was able to complete one without using the Gnomes.

5 minutes worth of fun, but no more.

  2. Maybe?

I like this one. This is a puzzle map. There are four simple puzzles and after you solve them all you’ll be served roasted crab. Good appetite. Worth a try. If it was a little longer and meaningful, I’d give this map four or five stars. And need more testing too.

    Think Twice

For 10 year olds, this might be great fun. I’m more than 10! I play all mods regardles and found this map very silly.
The puzzles are not puzzles just the sort of thing you will find at the stands when the fair comes to town.
Of the 5 minutes to play, 3 minutes are spent going door to door!
This only for the curious or “I’ll play anything once” diehards like sad old me.

  5. Maybe?

This was cute. The puzzles were very simple. Maybe without instructions they would have been a little more challenging–okay, maybe one of them may have been a little more challenging without instructions.

I suppose a lot of people won’t like this, but if you want to play everything, or if you want something different and short (and simple), give it a shot.

This is a short and sweet GuildHall entry with a co-op style/feel to it and a funny ending. The text on screen though could’ve been left longer for a normal person to be able to read, and the entire level is too easy on Normal to represent any challenge and therefore not that fun. It felt bugfree, which is rare, though I’m not so sure about the magnet level. Good for 3, 4 minutes.

  7. Avoid It!

It’s a cool concept and I usually like gravgun puzzles, but as is the case a lot of these types of maps it’s not very interesting to play. The best things about this are the funny ending and the full name (“The Harrowing Case of Harry the Headcrab”). Two out of four of the puzzles are easily exploitable. For the pachinko one you can just slip the chip under the glass and into the goal and I don’t know what the “magnet” was in the magnet puzzle but I just picked up the ball and put it in the hole. The other two are knock down the cans and throw the balls into the right slots, which are pointlessly easy. If this was expanded to be longer and more challenging, I think I would really enjoy it, but as it is right now I just don’t think it’s worth playing.
