Gauge 2.7.2 Now Available

So sorry to all those who have had trouble recently trying to install directly into Gauge. This release fixes issues with the change from HTTP to HTTPS.

Gauge won’t ask you to update automatically, I still need to fix that, so, either download the update and do it manually or the full installer.

Visit the gauge homepage for full details and download links.

Gauge 2.7.0 Now Available

Okay, first of all, let’s talk about the name change. When MapTap was first envisaged, it was just designed for single maps and unpackaged files. Over time we started adding more and more features. Now, MapTap installs mods, so the name “MapTap” limits its perception as useful.

With all that in mind, I decided to re-brand it. It is now called “Gauge”. My thinking behind it is that it fits with the idea of Valve and Steam, without using one of their brand names.

The version numbering will continue from the previous versions. The name change is from this point forward. I will need to make the changes to the sub-site, buttons etc, but those will have to wait a few days.

MapTap 2.5 Now Available!

Update: MapTap has been replaced by Gauge.

WOOHOO!

After a lot of work and planning, MapTap 2.5 is now available.

So, what does 2.5 do that previous versions didn’t?

Well, firstly, it can solve MANY Steampipe issues.

It manages mods, maps and mappacks downloaded from RUnThinkSHootLive.com (it almost certainly won’t work with archives downloaded from other websites).

If you install a mod, it will create the correct type of gameinfo.txt file (and backup the original of course!) and often this makes the mod work with no effort from you.

To be honest, that’s the big difference. There are lots of smaller changes, but unless you are really interested in bug fixes and changes to how the code works, they are not important.

Now, we have tested this version a lot, BUT we can’t test it on hundreds of different systems, so if you encounter an issue with the application PLEASE tell us. You can either email me directly: [email protected] or use the Contact page on the site.

If you have an issue with a particular archive/file, PLEASE use the REPORT button in the application. I check the report every week and see if archives are broken.

Head over to the application’s dedicated page to learn more and download the latest version.

MapTap 2.5 Beta RC1 is Now Available

Update: MapTap has been replaced by Gauge.

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

This beta version has a few new features.

First and foremost you can use it to install AND run mods. The ability to install mods has been available since 2.3 bt you had to open Steam to run them – not any more.

Secondly, but actually just as importantly, MapTap now automatically updates older mods to run in Steampipe! Yes, that’s right. Take an older mod from PP that doesn’t have the correct gameinfo.txt format and MapTap should do it for you. No messing about with text editors and copying and pasting etc.

Of course, it might not work every time, but it’s a darn sight better than having to do it manually.

Update: MapTap has been replaced by Gauge.

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Here is beta version RC11, which addresses the Steampipe update.

I have tested this version and it worked correctly for me on a fresh install of Steam.

I will be using it all the time from now on to install and test maps and mods.

I am really hoping this one can be released and Alex and I can start planning the next update and what features we want to include.

RC stands for Release Candidate in case you were wondering.

MapTap: Beta Release 2.4.0 RC8

Update: MapTap has been replaced by Gauge.

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Beta version RC7 was supposed to correctly detect the half-life executable location. It didn’t.

I have tested this version and it worked correctly for me.

I will test it a little more and if there are no reports of issues, then this is likely to be the actual release candidate.

Alex and I have been working hard on the next version of MapTap (well, mostly Alex), and I have decided that from this version onwards, I will release each beta version.
