Need Help?

Tis noon of night; the sable clouds, Hang weeping in the sky;
Alone I sit, where fancies flit Like spectral shadows by.
Me thinks I see familiar forms, And on before them all–
So fair, so calm, so wondrous like, wondrous like The picture on the wall.

  1. Phillip says Maybe

There’s some interesting things going on here, but ultimately the gameplay is not much fun.

The initial escape is a little far-fetched but that came be a personal thing. I mean, all that technology and hidden escapes mechanism but no weapon.

It felt it was quite dark and not very well optimized but I didn’t have too many stutters or pauses.

The problem for me at the beginning was that I was so worried I had missed a weapon and almost went back to look for it.

The later section with the train tunnel was nicely done, although I did get stuck behind a fence – if I can’t get out, don’t let me in!

The final battle was a complete let down. The first hunter killed itself and the second almost did the same. That final area was too cramped and too artificial.

That, and the fact I couldn’t find the end. If there was a trigger to end the map, I didn’t find it.

All in all, it could have been much better with just a few tweaks and slightly brighter lighting.

You probably should play this but be aware that it has it shortfalls.

To be fair to the author he seems to have some good ideas, unfortunately it looks as though no beta testing was done to help make this playable/enjoyable!

At the beginning you get a text clue of how to get out of the room, when the wall opens go through straight away as it closes and the trigger doesn’t work a second time. I got distracted and it closed so I had to restart. Phillip has already outlined the shortfalls, but probably this could have been a really good pair of maps if the author had thought things through.

    Avoid It!

Wow, haven’t seen such lack of optimization in a long time! Please take the time to close any holes your maps might have and read some tutorials on how to optimize the levels!
The low fps is not only annoying when running around, but it gets worse when you actually try to fight some hunters.. On that note, I found a 3rd one stuck in mid air in a corner, later he cut himself loose and I managed to kill 2, I think. So maybe by not killing the 3rd one (which disappeared into thin air) I failed to trigger the map end.
The beginning itself is far fetched because a normal rebel has no means to build all that (see Mission: Improbable 2 for improvised rebel stuff and living arrangements). Overall there’s just too much machinery and some doesn’t even do anything, it’s just there to fill up space which is already cramped. And the textures in that first room.. you can actually tell which walls will move.
And the invisible walls.. my oh my. Especially the big one parallel to the long train track!

The later section with the train tunnel was nicely done, although I did get stuck behind a fence — if I can’t get out, don’t let me in!

You can get out, just use a tipped barrel, but I agree, there was really no need for that area. Nor for the big green generators room and many others..
No second thoughts about giving this the lowest rating.

Yes, I forgot to mention that.

I tried, for quite a while too.

I might replay the second map to see if I get a third hunter.

  4. Maybe?

What really bothered me about this map is this:

You come to an area, it is detailed like your avarage HL2 map but then in the next area its just a boxy room.

What I mean is, one area is detailed and the other is not.

Otherwise its a good map, but like said, poorly optimized. The scripting was really nice and some very nifty things.

  5. Play It Later

yes this needed to be tested and optimized but overall I enjoyed it. my big problem with it is………..does it end ?

    Think Twice

This had many flaws, the first appartmennt part, had explore value, but it was totally killed, because those cmb were at ur back tryinng to kill you, so I felt over rushed in there, that was the 1st down.

The second down was that it seemed that in the underground train part, I expected some cmb combat fun, but ii only had a useless pistol and the crowbar, the invisible wall was a killer fun in there, and then well.. 2 hunters totally out of place in there, usually hunters are fun and offer cool combat action but NOT in here.

I didnt find de end at all, that’s if it has one.

is a TT and not an AI, because the developer did 2 maps, oh and the 2nd map was to derky, really darky! put some brightnes there please!

  8. Think Twice

Okay. My PC isn’t the best, but this is ridiculous! It can go from 100 FPS to 20 FPS in a heartbeat, and the map isn’t that massive. Really bad optimization here :/

The visuals are okay, but the gameplay just isn’t there. The first map only has buttons for me to press, and the second only has doors for me to open.

Other than that I found some pretty awkward bugs/errors. A nodraw texture in one of the corridors, no way of getting up from the “hunter-hole” and two fences that look exactly the same, but you can only jump over one of them! Invisible walls are just silly sometimes…

This could have been way better. I wont give it the lowest score because there are defiantly worse maps out there, but this wasn’t good…

  9. Play It Later

I don’t get all the low ratings. Yes it has no proper end but that doesn’t matter to me. I found the level very interesting in that the environment seemed kind of real except for one thing. The hidden passages! There’s tons of them! There’s hidden passages within hidden passages! But other than that this map is very realistic, especially the subway. There’s only one battle at the end and there are not any puzzles after the start. There are a bit too many unexplained explosions too. Does it make me a bad person that I laughed when a random train ran into a wall unexpectedly? It’s kind of like the part in the original Half-Life where you walk to an elevator shaft and some random scientists in a falling elevator go “AAAHHH” then explode. It shouldn’t be funny to me but it is. Even though there’s not much to it I think this map is worth a play.

  10. Think Twice

looks good but poor game play. Could not find the ending.
