    Excellent update of the previous version

    This is totally an improvement over the previous version. Music made fighting against zombies and Combine soldiers more intense, Gravity Gun raised fun level to maximum (especially when I began killing enemies with the fridge) and map can be played much longer.

    Although, there is still no proper ending and the design is still on “not bad” level.

    Overall, fridges are ultimate weapons.

    Do you like strobe lights? Zombies in a tight boxy hallway? How about combine all stacked up in a outdoor bunker? Then this mod is for you, cause it’s not for me.

    I don’t know why users keep uploading boxy rooms and calling it a day. So much more can be done with the hammer editor, even for 2004 standards. Valve proved what could be done with their engine when they released Half-Life 2. What’s stopping users from doing something like that?

    I did complete it, I think. It never faded out and disconnected me.

    Like it’s previous version, contains a lot of zombies and headcrabs to kill, each of the variants, but it also contains a new section where you, and a Rebel buddy, fight through a Combine encampment.

    The flow is very similar to it’s previous version, going room to room killing many zombies using the weapons you can get, now including the Gravity Gun. The previous version ended with a zombie ambush in a dark room, but now it extends further, through a series of concrete corridors leading to an open area filled with Combine soldiers to kill, which marks the end of the map.

    Overall, it’s a very nice improvement to the original, filled with even more Running and Shooting, even Thinking in trying to survive all the enemies thrown at you.

    This is a short but sweet little map from very early after HL2’s release, and as such it definitely has the feel of a map of that time. Extremely simple concept, just fighting zombies for a bit through multiple rooms until you have a final shootout with some Combine soldiers in a yard.

    Story

    Non-applicable. You’re just going through multiple rooms killing zombies. You do encounter a rebel though and he can help fight with you in the last few minutes of the mod. The mod does, however, doesn’t have any ending; once you finish the final combat zone, there’s nothing left to do.

    Presentation

    Despite being such an early map, it actually does decent in this area. While the areas are super simple and not very detailed, they do convey some sense of tone and even some horror, making good use of looking in certain areas and plentiful use of corpses/blood.

    I also appreciate that this map actually uses some music, which is something many of these very early custom mods seem to forget to utilize. Definitely makes it much more enjoyable to play as a result.

    Gameplay

    As stated, it’s mainly just going from room to room fighting groups of zombies. However, this is still decently fun to do. It doesn’t completely overwhelm you with zombies, giving you enough breathing room to deal with them effectively. You also get a good variety of weapons, including the pistol, SMG, shotgun, and even the Gravity Gun hidden in a spot. The GG gets some good use in this as well with some explosive barrels and crates that you can smack zombies with.

    The only real letdown here is the final combat area, which is an outdoor section against soldiers. It’s just not that fun as most of them are high up firing down on you, and you need to use a barrier to keep from getting hit a ton.

    Conclusion.

    Recommending any of these 2004 mods is usually hard since they’re generally just really low-quality, bad, unfun, etc., but that’s just because of the time they released as people were still figuring out the modding tools for the game/Source Engine and figuring out what worked and what was fun. However, if there’s any I could recommend trying, it’s this one. It’s definitely among the few of these super early ones that’s worth a play.
