Vilcabamba

for Half-Life

26th April 2006

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half Life 1, 2 and 3
About

This singleplayer map takes place in a recently discovered (and well preserved) ancient underground city somewhere in the Andes mountains.

Scientist at Black Mesa discovered a very strong energy signal coming from there and established a base to investigate. Unfortunately, the army was also aware of this discovery and sent a squad. Contact has been lost with the scientific team so you must go and investigate the events.

Unable to get it to run. Reinstalled a few times to no avail.

  2. ejays

    Same here will not run??

  3. OK, I’ve just tested it and it worked on my system, both with Steam and without. I also checked the MD5 hash and the local copy is the same as the Filecloud version.

What exactly is happening when you open the map?

  4. dufferx

Unable to open the map so nothing happens. I also tried the MD5 hash and the local copy.

  5. OK, so I presume that the compressed file has the same MD5 hash. When you say can’t open the map, are you saying you have extracted it but can’t open it in HL or not? What message do you recieve when trying to open the map in HL?

  6. dufferx

It extracts ok, but will not open in HL. I receive no message regarding it. It is as if it doesn’t exist.

  7. I know this may sound like a waste of time but have you tried renaming the .bsp file?

  8. dufferx

    Glad to try.

  9. dufferx

By gum! Renaming the bsp works! Thanks. Now to see if I can remember that.

  10. Holy Headcrabs Batman, it worked! Hope you think it was worth the effort!

Nice little map and I emphasize the word little. Well done, but much too short. Actually very little action and, once again, have to muck around in the gloom.

Hi Guys, I have been following these comments, but it is like I came in on an incomplete conversation. Apparently renaming the .bsp file works.

How about a hint about what to rename it to? Or doesn’t it matter? And if so, why does that work?

    Gameplay:
If the map does not load, rename the bsp to something smaller. A short one but worth playing for a good five minutes. Has very simple gameplay with nothing too hard to complete that poses too much of a threat. A few enemies here and there which is good for the size but could of used a few more. There is also plenty of ammo and health around as well.. Easy puzzles that can be completed without much thought.

    Design:
Very good level of detail in every location having a great texture and colour choice which fits well together. Plenty of locations had a realistic feeling to them which is very good, and the lighting also helps accomplish this due to it looking good. Structure of the map is also very good with no problems with the design anywhere..

    Conclusion:
A short simple map with an easy gameplay and great design.

  14. Michael, Sorry it’s taken 3 months to reply but I must have missed your comment. I only noticed it now becasue I have just added a syndicated review for this map.

No it doesn’t matter what you name it and I have absolutely no idea why renaming it works. I suggested it because it worked on another map I had problems with.

I think is the first map of “idol hunt’, by the same author. So skip this if you’ve played that already…

  16. Gieb download link? Even at TWHL it doesn’t exist anymore, it looks neat O.o

A well done neat and quality map. Kasperg’s quality is there all the time!

Is nice to have, the Aztec Ruin environment in HL1 maps, indeed this map looked like a Multi player-Death match but is just perfectly set for SP.

The last puzzle at the end can be little bit confuse and is not clear how to kill the Garg.

Overall a nice combat map for your entertainment.

    Maybe?

Another decent map from Kasperg, similar in a fashion to Sandscroll. This one is set among Aztec-style ruins instead of Sandscroll’s Egyptian-style. There are fewer puzzles here and a bit more combat. As usual, exploration pays off although this is a pretty linear map.

Texturing and lighting are pretty solid and the surroundings give this a nice change of setting for a Half-Life map.

Don’t sweat the final encounter too much, think laterally.

  19. Think Twice

Old ruins, but no evil traps, aww. I was almost hoping to die more often.

Short for sure, but was nice to try. During my second try, some script didnt work and i never saw garg. Or maybe garg just wanted to stay in that little room (with grenades).

I would like to give more than **, but its just so short.
