1. Phillip says Maybe

I honestly believe the order you play a series of mods is important, as well as the time between release and play.

In this case I have already played the next two in the series, which as you would expect are better. That means it’s easy to have a negative viewpoint on earlier releases.

Visuals
The areas are boxy and badly proportioned, but it must be hard to detail this kind of building, especially if you don’t have access to new models and textures. As you would expect the general feel is dark but never dark enough for me to become frustrated. There is a nicely lit corridor, which has a blue hue coming from the windows.

Gameplay
I suppose this is where the map struggles. It doesn’t really have enough actual gameplay and I spent too much of my time running from room to room. You only need to find one key in this map and the amount of shooting is quite small, in fact it could even be possible to play and finish this map without killing anything.

Layout/Design
At least the mansion wasn’t symmetrical, which would have been quite boring. Some areas are more detailed than others but overall it’s too plain and empty.

Summary
Certainly not an ultra scary map but there were two set pieces that I enjoyed, in fact the last piece was very good. More for exploring fans than action loving fans.

Needs more keys and action. please.

I also played 3 and 4 later, but I liked this anyway.
The two scenes where the zombie jumps off the balcon and the other breakes through the wall were really nice.
The map just misses proper lightning and some more special fights like the one where the zombies suddenly appear half transparent in front of you.
Oh, and it was very short

3. Maybe?

You only found one key, Phillip? At first I assumed the pinpoints of light were ghosts or something. When I “touched” them, they disappeared but didn’t cause any damage, but because I was able to go through the next door afterwards, I then assumed they were keys. Maybe they’re just trigger points.

It was okay. Because I played The Mansion 3 first, I sort of knew to expect that doors would be open-able after I did something. So that aspect was less frustrating than it could have been. I might have liked to get a message saying “you need a key to open this door”, but it’s probably not needed since those doors are unique.

I kept expecting to have/get to go in the cellar at some point, and the underground area with the blue light. But I just kept following open-able doors and all of a sudden there was G-Man and the map was done. Very short.

The Mansion 3 had some good shock events that this didn’t, but at least one puzzle in that wasn’t intuitive for me (leaving the house). So in that regard, this seemed better designed.
(But wait, why is the ladder in the library split so that you can’t get back to the top floor until you leave?)
4. I was skeptical after reading the reviews, but this was nice, short true, but nice..The green hall was a trip. Took me a while to figure out I had to back track to get out. interesting effect. I say download this and see for yourself. You can always delete it.. I won’t be. It was dark, creepy and fun..

When I download a game I usually burn to a disk This one will be kept.. I have.somewhere (scratches head) a few really old mods on a disk..Vintage HL.. If I can find it, I’ll have to post what I have…

5. Play It Later

Had graphics problems right off. No pink checkers persay, but pink mirrored checks ambient backlighting.. You may or may not have this problem. This computer is less than a year old so I don’t get the problem with the graphics. Must be a steam problem.
Still it was playable and interesting enough to keep my curiosity peeked until I found the G man. It’s dark and creepy like the rest of the Mansion series..This blows compared to Haunted House. But its OK… a good enough time waster..

Think Twice

Not big deal, at all, in here, just a map to pass time.., I guess this map is the weakest of the whole The Manison series.

Here we can see the mapper just expoerimenting, and the format is the same, found classic keys, and then open dors till u reach the end. I feel this maps were strongly inspired in HL1 anyway paly them in HL2 is kind of wierd…

Play it if u have absolutely not more maps or games to play…

Recommendation was removed, you have to at least write a reaction or basic thoughts on the experience.

7. I leave reviews but the site isn’t tracking them so now I leave this so I know I’ve played this map. 1357246
