Maze Of Death

for Half-Life 2

1st September 2010

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

A seemingly simple map, that has brick walls, set in a maze design. Includes, Combine soldiers, zombies, fast zombies and a rather unhelpful Alyx.

This was originally released in December 2004 and I have updated the post to include new screenshots and working download servers.

It will revert back to its original publish date of December 2005, in one month.

This is the worst map on here. It consists of a maze, but there is no exit. Complete waste of time.

what the heck is this map doing here

  3. Phillip says Maybe

I have started to systematically update the old posts with screenshots and working download servers.

I have re-posted on 1st September 2010and will put it back to its original publication date on 01 November 2005.

At first I was dreading this because the review above seemed spot on considering the screenshots but for some reason I actually enjoyed running around the damn thing.

Sure, it is not very creative, the same textures sucks, the lighting is just wrong and it’s basically a bad map. But for all that I like the challenge of finding and killing all the enemies. It doesn’t have a proper finish, which is annoying but look at the release date: December 2004. Not long after HL2 was released, so obviously mappers were just making crazy things and releasing them.

Would I recommend it? probably not, but you might like it without wanting to.

The penultimate screenshot was me flying around to see if I missed anything and the last screenshot is what I thought was a funny image of me flying halfway through Alyx.

If you are wondering why the map is called “gggg”, I believe it’s because the layout resembles Gs.

I can tell this person is a starter. Due to the pictures, it looks like a great map though. 🙂

    1. Remember, this map was made a month after the release of HL2. Everybody was a starter then.

  5. Think Twice

For a new HL2 mapper with the very first SDK, tape99 has done very well.
    The mapper has my admiration.

Nevertheless, we are 6 years down the line now. We’ve seen loads of maps and mods far superior to this, From a players point of view.
    Graphics, very boring.
    Game play, poor.
    Challenge, none found.

  6. Think Twice

I legit spent 17 minutes trying to get out of this maze. Sure, repetitive texture is annoying, but doesn’t hurt eyes, and you’re able to kill everyone in the maze which makes playing this map actually fun.

ENDING: you meet Alyx Vance. She says to you: “Sorry, Gordon.” And I think, it means that you made to the end. At least I couldn’t find any other ending (there was one isolated room though).

    Overall, not terrible, not great.

  7. Think Twice

A simple maze with a small number of enemies. Nothing special. Map passed when you find Alex.

  8. Think Twice

A simple map with a repeating texture maze containing some zombies and Combine soldiers, nothing else really, not even an “The End”.

You start with a crowbar and all you get next is an SMG, or even some grenades, by killing the Combine soldiers scattered around the maze. Alyx is there too, though she just stands in a corner and does nothing.

Overall, a simple map, common in that early era of Half-Life 2 map-making, but really, you should play other old maps rather than this one.
