  1. Phillip says Maybe

The question is Do you like dark, scary (ish) mods? If you do then it would have been a Play It Later. If you don’t (me), then it gets the Maybe recommendation.

The rooms and flow are a little repetitve but since you are in a house it can be hard to vary things enough without it seeming weird.

    SPOILER BELOW
The scene with the beds was really cool.

There were too many situations that were just obvious, scary is more than stuff jumping out at you.

Overall, I didn’t hate it but not being a lover of these types of mods, it’s almost impossible for me to like it.

    Explore the darkness, BOO!

  2. marnamai

This is a stolen mod, the maps are taken from the nightmare house also listed on PP.

  3. AI

It apears your right marnamai, the maps match with “nightmarehouse_remake” the newest version, and “nightmarehouse 2” has not been finnished yet! Hmmm, something fishy going here! Haven’t tried it yet!

  4. feckineejit
    Maybe?

I played this as Nightmare house 2 and it was dark and scary and I don’t like that type of game, but because it was a HL2 mod I was all over it. Worth a try!

  5. Mel

ok, whats the best one to download? if any!

  6. Anonymous

Any version you’d like, this stolen one has however some weapon replacements wich the original didn’t have.

  7. Kenneth Sena

think this can be the best to play with kids especially on halloween. trick or treat! 🙂

  8. Kenneth Sena

hooo. creepy place out there. think im gonna get one for the kids.

    Play It Now!

I really liked this, but I would never get this “for the kids”.lol-unless the “kids” are over 18. This is real bloody and pretty scary. There is also-********SPOILER ALERT********one scene with a girl hanging herself. Definetly not for young kids. I really liked the pace of this and it had just enough light to make it very spooky yet still be able to see most of the time. You may want to turn up the lights in the settings though. It was fun and worth the download. No tech problems at all.

    Play It Now!

I preferred this stolen version with hl2; ran smoother and no bugs.

Played in the dark and I must admit to being scared and jumpy a few times!

Not my kind of mod but I enjoyed the change.

    Play It Now!

if ya like creepy this is it, I jumped several times. the first weapon a fire axe takes up visual room and I would see a dark shadow, turn to swing at it and nope just the silly axe. I look forward to their next installment

  12. Play It Now!

Certainly the creepiest, crawliest mod I’ve ever played! Plenty of startle moments and a few tricky combat situations. It’s a great short mod to get the ol” ticker pumpin’!

  13. Play It Now!

One of the more complete ‘scary” mods out there. It starts off innocently enough with a messed-up graveyard outside of the house, but once you breach the cellar, that’s when the real fun starts.

Custom weapon skins lend this mod a notch above being just another scarefest. One set piece [as mentioned by Phillip] involves the room full of beds; make sure you don’t miss it!!

All in all, it’s relatively short, but extremely sweet while it lasts [that’s what she said?]. Play it for sure.

  14. Play It Now!

Another really nice change up. I had a lot more fun than I anticipated and more than one good jump.

Good atmosphere and environmental mapping of the whole haunted mansion theme. Liberal usage of blood decals for sure !

  15. Maybe?

It’s a toss up between Maybe and PIL. I don’t really like dark, “scary” places, which could be why “Maybe” won.

I had to noclip into the hall in screenshot 11. I have no idea what was supposed to trigger the opening. I bashed on it lots of times. I bashed everything else. I backtracked. The one thing I didn’t do was shoot the wall.

Most of the “boo” moments I didn’t even really notice. I heard a noise and turned to look and missed whatever was supposed to scare me. Except in the last hallway. And the very end was very good.

    1. Picking up the doll triggered the opening in screenshot 11…

      1. Personal Favourite

I’ve had to clip that one. I have picked up the doll and noting happened but that was the only prob.

    2. adjust your brightness in the options tab.

  16. Play it now.. it’s nice and creepy, one to play alone in the dark late at night. Well constructed, runs perfectly and some nice startling surprises.. Gettin back to the gate? GOOD LUCK!lol.. Its an arse kicker!

  17. Play It Now!

This is a classic must play map. Hands down the a true classic. This being because there is a “remaster” and a sequel for this map. I really enjoyed this map and here’s why.

    Score Sheet

Usage of space and world brushes: 8/10
This being a 2009 mod, it’s got a lot going for it. The rooms are filled, but not to the point where it’s hard to move around. My best guess is that func_details are func_details and world brushes are world brushes because I hardly lagged out and I felt like it was well optimized.

    Visuals 8/10
Solid visuals for a mod released 13 years ago. It does look dated, so I can’t give it a full 10/10, but damn I was still impressed. There are jumpscares, but I was expecting them from past experience.

    Gameplay: 8/10
I only died a few times because I quicksaved at the worst moment when I was at 1hp. There were strategically placed ammo pickups and health viles though, so I didn’t struggle at all. There is no enemy spam, but instead well placed zombies and it was pretty balanced as far as I am aware. Again, I really enjoyed this mod.

    Final Score: 24/30 – 80%

Final Comments: It’s a solid start to an amazing mod that was finalized. Nightmare House 2.

  18. Forgot to add my scores on top of my “play it now stamp”. Not sure how to edit comments.

  19. Personal Favourite

Nightmare House. The reason why this is one of my personal favorite is because this is a great classic and it’s one of the best at their time.
