Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Continue where Escape 1 finished. This time you get more rebel friends and even a rocket launcher!

That’s the good new. The bad news is that some of the mod is outside and it’s dark.

Watch out for those zombies!

  1. Phillip says Maybe

    This mini review contains spoilers.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first but then again, I didn’t “really” enjoy the first one.

The indoor sections are clearly not from a prison and whilst details like this are no really important why even bother? Just call it ” a few rooms” or something.

The outside section is too dark to be interesting and even though I enjoyed the Combine Gunship battles, they were too easy, even for me!

    Maybe?

funny, I can relate exactly to your review Phillip.
its more of the same, rooms filled with enemies. although its now larger, specialy the ourdoor parts. what makes that you can see far in the distance loads of zombies for instance, that are standing still untill your close enough for them to notice you. I too loved the gunship battle. a wide open place were in pairs of 3 gunships at a time, about 12 gunships apear. you should think that this would be hard, but like Phillip said was this was to easy because there are about 20 citizens placed and some of them also have the RPG weapon. what makes that you have to hurry otherwise they will shoot all gunships down. were part 1 was way to difficult was this second part way to easy ! and it seems there will be a part 3, or at least the mapper had the intention of making another one, becauyse the end loosk like the end of part 1 I thought. hopefully is that one a little bit harder.
funny by the way becayse I seem to remember that I did play this one long ago. there were parts that reminded me of that time. also is it clear to me now why the mapper does make these maps, at least I think I do. I think that his main fun is to have loads of enemies, and to be able to kill them all. what is ofcourse fun, but, only for a short while.
lets therefore give this one a Maybe like Phillip did. part 1 was insane hard, and therefore I gave that one a avoid it, but this one was pleasent enough to play in 5 min or so.

  3. Maybe?

Better than Escape by far (3.1/2 stars?). Quite enjoyable if not for the purist. Needs a bit more thought such as waking up a few Combine at time before having a go at the next lot.
Enjoyed the multiple gunship battle.. Yet again, an average map let down by the end – after the gunship battle.
The developer ran out of ideas, me thinks, and it would have been better finished with something like the rebels rejoicing after tha last gunship is downed.
At least it has an end – it says so writ large.

    Think Twice

Very much like the first Escape map: a couple of nice moments but too boxy and barren. I liked the help with taking the gunships down (why is it usually in HL that there’s a load of rebels standing around a rocket launcher, wondering what it’s for, until you show up?), but the final area with loads of zombies doesn’t really work because you can just run past them all with ease.

  5. Can’t make it to vehicle whats the scoop is game over here?

    1. Yes, that’s the end. You cannot get to the car.
There is a sign “THE END” to the right of the buggy but not blidingly obvious in the gloom.

  8. Think Twice

I started to give this a Maybe since it’s better than the first Escape. But if you’re going to play this you may as well play the first Escape, first, and I’m not sure either are worth it.

The gunship battle was promising, but too easy. The horde of headcrabs was promising, but too easy (thankfully). And, as previously said, I just ran past all the zombies–two of my squad died, though (can’t they run?).

      Well,
back when I made this map I was 13 years old, so don’t expect it to be good. When I look at this map today, I just see bugs, memory leaks and overall ugly level design. But once again, back then I was only 13 years old, and now if you Google my name, you’ll find this map, which is kind of embarrassing.
Can’t you remove my name, please? 🙁

      1. Well, even if I was critical, your maps are better than any I’ve ever done (read that as “none”–well, I did try to make a map for Duke3D once; I totally failed). They’re also better than anything I could have come up with at 13.

Playing them was also better than staring at the wall for 30-60 minutes, or however long it took. I just couldn’t say “definitely play” them, which is what the PIN and PIL recommendations are for.

      2. Tim, If you insist I will remove your name, but I wouldn’t worry too much. Early maps are as much a part of a mapper’s portfolio as the best stuff.

  9. This must be one of those maps that got toasted by Steam, because I have this error “Bad surface extents on texture nature/rockfloor002a

    Any suggestions?

Recommendation was removed, you have to at least write a reaction or basic thoughts on the experience.

  10. Avoid It!

Unfortunately this one is a lot worse than previous map. Again it’s just typical escape scenario with hordes of enemies but at least you now have some allies and defalut music. Level design is even worse than in previous map and is basically just long corridors with hordes of enemies and some barricades. There’s no serious work with scripts, no events, just enemies spawning and music playing. There’s outside areas but they are so horrible that I prefer small prison corridors from the first map. I see no good points and can’t recommend anyone to play this map.
