April 2018 – General Chat

No doubt, there’s a bunch of “Half-Life 3 Has Been Announced!”, “Exclusive Half-Life 3 Screenshots!”, “Valve announces Half-Life 3!” etc but we are all too wise for to fall for those.

In fact, some of you might even avoid the Internet all together in the hope of not being disappointed yet again.

Sometimes the timing of news releases can have us doubting but the reality is that not everybody pays attention to April Fool’s and therefore inadvertently add to the strange news stories released.

I might have something to announce today and unfortunately it has to be today, so no doubt you’ll question its timing.

Anyway, enough of that.

As I write this, I still have another few more days off and hope to do some behind-the-scenes work on the site, including getting the multi-tags feature working again. I’ll also trying to open J.A.C.K. and starting doing some mapping again.

That plus my monthly promise to finish Wolfenstein: The new Order!

What about you, what do you have planned?

March 2018 – General Chat

Spring will soon be here. I kinda like the rain and cold though because when I am at home most of the weekend on my PC, I feel less guilty than if it’s warm and sunny. I feel as though I have an excuse.

What about you?

Anyway, yes, let’s address the pink with green spots elephant in the room: I have only just posted the March chat (Wednesday 21st March 2018).

Shame on me for A: not doing ti and B: for not noticing until somebody emailed me.

What plans do you have for the final 9 days of March? Me? Well, I have some unpaid leave from the 29th until the second week of April, and I hope to do a thousand things but will be lucky to do 5.

February 2018 – General Chat

Please accept my apologies for being a few days late publishing this post.

Anyway, now that January has gone we find ourselves in February – don’t be surprised, you knew it was coming!

I did not accomplish most of what I had hoped to in January and will naturally transfer it to February, along with some new stuff. Probably by December, I’ll have 11 months worth of tasks to accomplish!

I will definitely finish Wolfenstein: The New Order this month. NO! Really, I will.

What about you, what have you planned?

January 2018 – General Chat

Good Morning and welcome to 2018.

You have chosen or been chosen to start this year with a love of Half-Life.

No game has ever affected you in such a way.

Other games have pleased and excited you, but not in the same way Half-Life.

Half-Life can’t be replaced by shiny graphics or VR.

Half-Life is and will always be your favourite.

December 2017 – General Chat

HOLY HEADCRABS!

It’s December already – where did the rest of the year go?

I’m hoping to finish everything related to the mapping challenges for next year, plus I also hope to start a new updating event, similar to 100 Summer Days of Nostalgia but smaller in scope and commitment.

I’d also like to start a discussion about the possibility of creating a story-based RTSL EP2 SP mod.

Anyway, what have you got planned?

November 2017 – General Chat

Well, the clocks have gone back, the mornings are brighter and the release of Black Mesa is another month closer. YAY!

Got lots of things planned for November but you know what?, I’m not going to tell you because it seems that every time I mention them here, I never do them.

In a couple of weeks there will be the fund raising stream, for the Hammer Cup 2017 prize fund – so I hope you can join me for that.

There’s a few things I have been working on regarding the site but mostly fixing lots of little issues.

I hope to tell you more soon and so other ideas I have.

So, here’s to a fun and hard-working November.

What do you have planned?

October 2017 – General Chat

Have I mentioned it’s my birthday this month? Well, it is. One year older, one revolution around the Sun. Another 365 days gone. Used. Wasted? Experienced? Valued? Who knows.

What I can tell you is that since I heard Maggot Brain on House, M.D., there hasn’t been many days go by where I haven’t listened to it at least once.

For those that like Psychedelic Rock, here it is:

As you probably know, the site is now running on its own dedicated server. The site should be faster, at least it is for me. It’s also more expensive but I feel it’s worth it. A HUGE thanks to Mazur for setting it all up and continued help in configuring it. There is absolutely NO WAY I could have done it myself. Now that the move has been completed, I have begun updating some of the pages. You probably won’t notice anything big, but it makes the site better.

The Contact page is back and I have already begun getting spam, but okay, that’s the price you pay for making it easier to contact me. The submit page may also return.

I’ve also decided that I probably won’t be adding many videos. I feel the time is better spent elsewhere on the site. I will still do the occasional livestream but not many.

Right, that’s it for now.

What plans do you have for October?

Oh, did I mention it’s my birthday this month?

September 2017 – General Chat

OMG, I can’t believe that September is here. I did 20% of the things I had planned for August. Oh Well, there’s always next year. HA!

Anyway, we are getting closer to the server move, so that’s good but I am still pretty nervous about it. It’s the first time the site will be self-hosted. The dev site seems really fast, so that’s one good thing.

Due to circumstances, I have been spending some time posting stuff on Twitter, hopefully you have been following me – if not, why not?

RTSL Twitter feed Only 32 more followers needed to reach 1,000.

Besides that, I’ll try to finish Wolfenstein: The New Order and even start Old Blood. YES! I know I said that last month but I mean it this time.

What about you, what do you have planned?

August 2017 – General Chat

Firstly, please excuse the larger than normal featured image. It’s Half-Life 2 running on 16 monitors at 16K resolution. You can see the full video here: GAMING at 16K RESOLUTION?? – HOLY $H!T from the Linus Tech Tips channel.

Secondly, I’m back from my holiday and feeling refreshed and raring to update the site.

The BlackMesaDoorVille Mapping challenge is underway and at the time of posting this chat has 16 days left. You can follow the discussion and WIP images on the official RTSL Mapping Challenges channel on the SMC Discord Server.

I’ll be posting some recently released mods over the coming days too. I’ll also be re-adding the CONTACT and SUBMIT pages very soon too.

I’d like to take this opportunity to reminder all users that the RTSL Twitter feed is the best place to stay up to date with all the news related to the site, including details of livestreams.

Talking of Twitter, I’ve started a new daily (hopefully) tweet series called RTSL: On This Day, where I post a map or mod that was published on the site this day. In case you didn’t know, I take the map or mod from the On This Day page. It lists everything that was posted on that day, all years and all types of posts. Take a look, you might find something interesting.

Other plans this month include LOTS of mapping and I want to finish Wolfenstein: The New Order and even start Old Blood.

Well, that’s me done.

What plans do you have for August?

July 2017 General Chat

What a start to July! Yes, I know said that last month, but today sees BridgeVille released.

Last month, I had some issues with hosting but I am now on Stage 1 of my update. I am currently on a temporary host, which seem okay, but it’s only temporary because I will be moving over to dedicated hosting very soon.

As you probably saw, I’ll be livestreaming later today and tomorrow too. Full details HERE.

Now, you may have also seen my tweets this week talking about the Steam Summer Sale. Well, I bought 11 games for a total cost of 21 Euros. I also transferred about 7 games from my Gift section to my Library. That’s a LOT of games I gotta play. What about you? DId you spend more money than you expected?

What plans do you have for July?

What is this post?

Each month I create a “General Chat” post for readers to post whatever they want within the limits of being a family-friendly website.

Please don’t post reviews, questions or comments about maps and mods listed on the site – post them on the respective post – all those comments will be deleted. I do this to ensure that when a reader visits a map or mod page, all the information is in one place.

About this Month’s Image

Back in June 2014, I started to use a poster from a classic Sci-Fi movie as the background for the post image.
Starting in June 2016, I started to use images taken from old FPS games.
And for 2017, I started using images from sci-fi books, but from this point forward I will just use a random image from a mod or game to reduce the time it takes to make the post.

Your task, should you wish to accept it, is to guess the mod or game. It may or MAY NOT have been released yet – DUN DUN DUH!
