    Play It Now!

Short 3 map mod, but entertaining. A couple of puzzles, some dangerous moments. Each map improves on the last, with a nice “apache plus human grunts type” final battle. The character voices are English accented and convey the storyline. The end scenes are original and funny, with Gordon doing a ‘vinnie Jones” accent. Play on skill 3. Too short but fun 3.5/5

    Maybe?

    good/very short/grunts only/no puzzles/just one jump-hard/good settings/no variably play

  3. Avoid It!

Short, old and crappy minimod with major balancing issues and bugs.
The difficulty is extremely high as there is like no heatlh and mean enemy placement at all times.
Also it’s just strange, no real story, no puzzles.
I refuse to write pro’s & con’s as it’s just bad, avoid it!

  4. Ten Four Reviews

If nothing else this level is extremely funny. The author has recorded some new speech for the map and I couldn’t help but laugh when I heard it. Its a bit hard to understand, but if you listen carefully the intriguing storyline is explained. Once more the GMan is the centre of the plot and this time he’s an crime lord out to frame Freeman. The security at the end just has to be heard to be believed 🙂 . You even get to hear Gordon speak, although he doesn’t sound quite how I imagined him to.

Naturally I can’t recommend this level on comic value alone but the gameplay is pretty enjoyable too. Its a little shorter than I would have liked, but there are some good fights. The final battle is huge, and fairly tough. It took me several attempts to work out a method for completing it and I actually had to use strategy, which is always praiseworthy. I was slightly annoyed at the start when I had to kill 2 ninjas with only a Glock. In fact the map would have been better without any of the ninjas. I feel that ninjas (along with Gonarchs, Gargantuans, Tentacle Beasts and Apaches) should be used by map authors only with extreme care, with special attention paid to giving them an environment to which they are suited and at the same time gives the player a good chance to defeat them.

The architecture is good in some places, but there are a few places that could do with improvement. Overall its above average. I was very impressed that r_speeds were kept down in the final area. Its so vast that I was predicting r_speeds well into the 1000s, but thankfully the author must have taken care over keeping unnecessary detail down.

The main thing against the map is the small size, but I still think its worth the reasonably small download, thanks to hilarious story. And this is a first effort, so perhaps we will see something more substantial (and just as humorous) from Andy in the future.

  5. Think Twice

    Something from the old days.

Simple and basic maps without surprises. Some of those doors are ok even for +200cm basketball players, lol.

Biggest thing is the challenge. Lack of ammo and health, but it wasnt that bad. Just have to use some tricks against Half-Life AI.

ps. i didnt hear any custom voice acting. Wonder whats wrong.

    Avoid It!

As Technic says, this is old and pretty crappy with major balancing issues. It’s very challenging, as you can be facing assassins in a dark room within the first couple minutes. It’s kind of like the author just threw everything into this pack, you get weapons such as the crossbow, tau, and gluon before the halfway point.

The mapping is very basic and the custom voices are pretty iffy – but the worst is having Gordon speak at the end, it’s just terrible. This download is packaged to unzip into the valve directory but it can overwrite a couple files such as sentences.txt and titles.txt, which is a bad idea. If you ignore the advice of us reviewers and install anyway, be careful. Better to just avoid.

  7. Avoid It!

    bugs…

  8. Play It Now!

Assassins killed with Gluon Gun. It’s the first time I am seing. And I’m even happy how weak assassins are to this weapons, just point and shoot and they are doomed. The author should have left more ammunition. And the vent should even higher with more grunts, so we could make a sniper rifle challenge here. The Ichthyosaur is like in the middle, you need 30 minutes to kill it with Hive Gun. It just go back and forth most of the shots are missed, there’s no hook just to catch it hang it on the ceiling while I swim through to the other side. And what the hell is a scientist is doing in that hidden secret room near the laser? Is he crying down there? He didn’t talked to me, can you believe this? He is MAD.
