Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

A curfew locks down the city, but Gordon must go through a Combine Security building in order to get across town. Because the route Gordon must take takes him through a building controlled by the Combine, the mission does not go smoothly.

Gordon needs to get to Alyx, and a building stands in his way. Gordon must successfully avoid or kill the Combine soldier guarding the building before infiltrating it. Even after Gordon enters the building, he must be on the lookout for patrolling Combine soldiers. A soldier could be anywhere at anytime, and they may have friends with them. Gordon’s real task waits on the roof; a strider shooting, Combine soldiers dropping in, and a shield scanner dropping hopper mines all over the rooftop. All the enemies block the ladder, which represents Gordon’s escape route.

  1. Phillip says Play It!

I played this a long time ago and forgot to add it to the site. Fortunately, Jasper reminded me about it via the forum and I am glad he did.

It’s a fun map. Put simply you need to get to the roof. This means working your way through the building. Some doors open, others don’t. So far, so good. The only problem is that occasionally after you have cleared a room Metrocops and Combine Soldiers appear from nowhere.

Once you get to the roof things really heat up. You need to destroy the Strider to get down the ladder. ANother problem is that you can’t seem to destroy the ships, that annoys me.

Anyway, as I said it’s fun, so downlaod it and have fun for 10 minutes.

    Too easy then too hard.

If this map were a nightclub
It would have no bouncers and be too packed inside to dance.

  2. think this link is broken also

  3. All the links work for me.

Tried a few times to play it but it starts, the citizen walks up and says “Gordon Freeman” and the guards pace back and forth but I can’t move at all.

      1. Unfortunately, this is one of those mods that have been broken irreparably by Valve’s updates 🙁
Has to do with the .vcd files no longer working.

    Play It Later

From the lack of posts it would appear that this map has been a bit neglected, so let me say first up that this one is worth adding to your play-later list.

    The following contains spoilers.

The map followers a simplistic form one of enter the building, clear-out the rooms, reach the roof and find the ladder. don’t make much sense but what does without a story. There’s not much to tax your brain or reactions, the combat is straight forward with Combine relatively easy to take down. Things get a bit more hectic once you reach the roof, but no more spoilers go simple the roof top action.

As it stands the map does not make a lot sense, and without a constructive ending I’m thinking this was something that never got finished.

It has to be played, It’s fun!
Quite hard in places and especially the end.
The author, Guildhall student, designed this with a soupcon of humour I suspect.

Thanks for the links. I hope it will work for me.

I’m torn between PIL and Maybe.

I guess it’s worth playing, but it’s so short. I got to the roof, killed the Combine and strider, went down the ladder and wandered around waiting for the next message to tell me where to go. I figured I must have missed something, so did the rooftop again.

    “Scene “.\scenes\streetscene.vcd” missing!”

    1. JG

Just a guess, but from what I’ve read on the Valve Developer Community, that could be because of the way Valve changed how VCD files are loaded. It used to be that you could have them “loose,” sitting around in the folders, and the game would recognize them. Around the time of the console ports, in order to speed up loading, they created scenes.image which basically compiled all those scenes together, and then they ported it back to the PC and (obnoxiously) removed the loose files method.

If that’s the case, since this is a standalone BSP and not a formal mod, you’re kind of out of luck.

This map isn’t amazing but it is very fun. One thing I really liked about it was all the Combine ambushes, there’s a lot of them. The first part takes place outside and has Metrocops as the main enemies. It’s pretty easy but also fun. There’s some Metrocops who don’t have weapons and therefore can not attack at all. That’s not too much of a problem but it seems a bit silly.
The second part takes place inside a house. It’s very fun and is the part with all the ambushes. There aren’t any puzzles apart from pressing a button but it is very nonlinear and I like that a lot. It kind of reminds me of the first level of DayHard.
The final battle is on a rooftop with a Strider. This is a really cool battle, normally it would be easy but not only is there a Strider, there’s also Combine dropships and shield scanners carrying hopper mines. Unfortunately it ends here. It seems like the first level of a larger mod but it’s still very fun and I recommend it.

    Maybe?

We also got the “Scene “.\scenes\streetscene.vcd” missing!” and fixed it with this in console:
    ent_fire pointcontrol disable
I’m not sure if that broke the map in some way, but felt buggy that the patrolling CPs did not attack, when others did not hesitate. The way to go is not clearly outlined, mapping is mediocre, tho I appreciate the building having a bit of greebling instead of the ordinary cubic constructions with window textures pasted on em. And doors having no handles are confusing and not helping with player progression and break an immersion that never really installed itself properly. Rebel without a weapon and not in my squad, also confusing. No explanation why there’s combine just sitting in every room I go in. But if you can get past all that, there’s some decent shooting in it for your average player. Then we get to push a button with no idea what it did. And we’re told to get to the roof and go down a ladder… yes, sir! So from that point on, again it was confusing since I kept looking for a ladder and I wasn’t sure I was supposed to kill everything first. But apparently the ladder is only available after that. Til then, you’re left with an rpg crate, no health, and some rather unfair enemies. The usual 🙂 If the strider would’ve moved, it would’ve been more fun. Plus the actual ladder is not so visible, maybe cus map too dark. Meeting up with the rebels would’ve been nice for an ending instead of sudden drop from server.
