I got this game from a PC Gamer disc many years ago and whilst I ranked the game then, I did not make any notes on how it played. For what it’s worth here are a few site rankings at the time.
    Mel’s: 6/10
    EH10: 6.2/10
    Hanger 16: 7/10

So, I guess a score of 3 out of 5 would be a good guide for this game.

1 large map. Good environment design and gameplay. Find the scientist and free him.
    Good quality. Too short.
This mapper is skilled. Anything else out there by him?

Good and short. Very well design !

  4. Play It Later

Funny lil map with nice action and good balanced gameplay, also interesting layout.
If only the playtime and ending would be longer/better, I’d probably give a “play it now!”

    Pro’s:
    -Good mapping, nice design
    -Sweet action
    -Some tiny puzzles
    -Decent tiny scripts

    Con’s:
    -Short playtime
    -Sudden ending
    -Less variation about enemies, weapons

  5. Ten Four Reviews

The number of new authors emerging at the moment is wonderful and was always going to happen after Half-Life’s release. Joining their ranks is Matthew with his first level, Infiltration. Just like Kevin Hall’s Quake 2 debut, Hexorcism, this is an excellent first attempt.

How about we get the bad points out of the way first? Well, there are a lot of little mistakes around the place: misaligned textures are all too obvious in some areas and a few pieces of the architecture are a little strange. Matthew also hasn’t quite got to grips with the art of keeping r_speeds down; there are several areas where they rocket and this does spoil the otherwise excellent gameplay. The level is also a little shorter than I’d have liked but then that’s always the case with a decent map; if it’s fun, you don’t really want it to end at all. Finally, a couple of the switches should have been slightly more visible.

But the good features of Infiltration are much greater in number. Though I said it wasn’t long enough, it’s hardly over in a flash and what there is makes for a lot of fun gameplay. The enemy placement is reasonably good and he’s also got the weapon/ammo/health balance just about right, although it’s a pity he didn’t include difficulty levels.

Matthew’s squeezed a few lovely set-pieces into the map, one of the major selling points of Half-Life and something it’s nice to see the authors exploiting. There’s a great scene with some grunts slaughtering some scientists and the part with the crashed lift was brilliant. I’ve always wanted to do that [you’ll see what I mean when you get there] and while it’s usually done the other way around in the movies, it was still fun.

There’s also some nice use of darkness in the level. This is another area where Half-Life has a significant advantage over Quake 2 in that very dark levels were normally just annoying in the latter game. In Half-Life, however, because you have the flashlight they add an extra dimension to the map and allow for some very suspenseful sections – something that wasn’t exploited enough in Valve’s levels, I felt.

Anyway, this is certainly a very worthwhile download and is well above average for a first map. It’s great to see some real quality maps finally appearing for Half-Life.

  6. Maybe?

Not bad for one map, some good touches are presented.

  7. Maybe?

Another fairly short grunt fest. The mapping isn’t too bad and some sections provide you with a couple of alternate routes that you can take in order take out the grunts. The interior spaces are a little cramped, especially for grunt combat, but the halfway mark features a small exterior area which is where the challenge ramps up for a little while.

Overall, not a bad map, but again fairly short. I give it a Maybe. Check it out if you happen to be looking for a quick, ten minute break.

Infiltration is a brisk, aesthetically pleasing grunt battle map. You fight through science labs, crawl through vents and save Einstein, all the while shooting grunts in the face or blowing them up. There’s plenty of ammo and you even get a nice turkey shoot with the 357 near the end. This is a good one to keep in the ole maps folder.

All this fight just to find the doctor

Play it on Medium / Easy. Ammo / Health miscalculation!
In the vent. Where we should go left or right? If I go right, someone will shoot the shotgun in my face and I would want to get rid of that. But if I go left I would face the SMG killer which will also gladly will fire on me. But for some reason he don’t tell his teammate that I am here. So go for him first. Apparently his teammate didn’t hear the shots I made and is still standing their like a muted zombie…and I say what the hell is going on dude!
