Just because I used the Consider It recommendation image don’t think it’s a bad map. It’s just very limited in its design and gameplay. You won’t get more than 5 minutes of gameplay from it and it’s not particularly challenging. However, I played on EASY and it might be better if you tried it on HARD to make it fun.

II managed to replay it and kill all the headcrabs without firing a shot. I like little options like this because I think that with some careful planning it may be possible to make a mod where the player doesn’t “have to” fire their weapon.

Of course that may be boring for most but it could make a great exercise in level design for those up to the challenge!

Just out of interest, could somebody tell me where the “.vmf” file supposed to go?

I have pasted the “.bsp” file as usual, but couldn’t find anywhere to put the other. I’m sure other maps have had these files, but am not quite sure what they do, are they config related or something…?

I’ll play it without worrying, but am just curious…..

  3. VMF is a Valve Map File. From valve wiki

“Valve Map File, or VMF, is a proprietary format that stores raw (pre-compile) map data, used by the Valve Hammer Editor to save production-stage maps and prefabs. It contains information on all map brushes and entities in a script format stored with a “.vmf” extension.”

VMF files are written in the same keyvalue text format that the engine uses to parse external configuration files, thus allowing them to be opened and edited in plain text. ”

I think it means you could redo/change some stuff in the file and recomplile it to a map of your liking

    Think Twice

Thanks andyb, I guess that means for us non-mappers that we don’t have to worry about it then?As far as the map goes, it’s not a challenge, it’s not especially original, and seems more like a practice run by someone who has proved themselves already to be a very talented mapper. You can get stuck if you challenge the physical boundaries of the map, and as far as I can see the only aim is to conserve your ammo as it’s finite, as are the crabs…

Only for those who absolutely have to play everything.

That’s not any kind of a sleight on the author, just on this particular map……

  6. Think Twice

I gave this a Think Twice rather than a Maybe, because I think it’s really only for people who want to play everything. Or maybe for people who really like killing headcrabs.

The only challenge is on conserving your ammo and not getting too damaged. It’s easy to not take too much damage, though. Like Phillip said, it’s probably also possible to kill them all without any ammo (though I dislike poison headcrabs enough to not bother trying :)).

  7. Maybe?

A simple map, about killing headcrabs. Kind of takes away the challenge when most of the headcrabs end up jumping in the water, but it makes up for having so much limited ammo.
