The Hammer Cup 2017 Short Story Event

ORIGINAL POST

I am pleased to announce another short story event. I hope this becomes a yearly event.

I would like readers to write a short story that uses one of the maps as its setting or one of the first four themes from the Hammer Cup 2017; Defend, Bridge, Toxic and Teleport.

This is an “event” NOT a challenge or competition. I am calling it an “event” because I would like to encourage as many people as possible to submit stories. I don’t only want people to submit if they think they can win.

I have no plans to offer a prize.

The maximum word count is 2,500, but that DOES NOT mean you must write that many. Even really short stories can be fun to read.

I understand that not everybody who uses this site is a native English speaker but the submission MUST be in English.

The submission must also be suitable for over 16 years old children to read. If I feel a submission is inappropriate for some readers, I will not publish it.

As with my previous story events (TREE Story event No.1 and TREE Story Event No.2) I will publish the submissions as a PDF, making it easier for people to read.

The deadline for submission is 31st December 2017.

Please email them to me directly: [email protected]

They can be part of the email or attached as .txt files.

DO NOT send them as word documents or other word processing formats.

DO NOT post them here as comments.

If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to post them here.

  1. I have just added this:

Think you meant ‘for under 16 year olds’

Meh, Half-Life is an 17+ rated game due to adult situations (Blood and Gore, Intense Violence etc)

Always found it funny, and quite bizzare of you trying to push Half-Life as child friendly when it’s anything but… and you seem to issues withthe intimate act of love being descripted but no issues with adult rated violence and gore.

      1. No, I meant for 16 years and older. I’ll re-word it tomorrow.

    2. So no steamy love scene between Barney and Gordon while defending a bridge above an abyss filled with toxic goo? Shame.

It’s cool that you specifically made this an event rather than a contest, btw. Participation certificates for everyone!

      1. No steamy scene, but you could “suggest” a relationship if you want.

  2. I’m going to avoid the urge to be a total narcissist and write a story on Timothy J Zombie.
    (Though I hope someone does!)

I’ll re-play a couple maps, and see if I find any that I think I can put a story into words.

    1. DUDE! I see no reason at all for you to avoid writing about Timothy J. Zombie Esq.

  3. Mine’d probably be about Gordon and his Rebel comrades. Would I break the rules of Gordon if I write his thoughts down? He won’t say a word, still

Hmm sounds very interessting, but my english isnt good enough to write a hole stroy in this language…

  5. Oh goodness, it’s been far too long since I’ve visited. I really should jump on this. I’ve still got plenty of ideas.

Asterixer, you could use this as an opportunity to practice English!

  6. How many entries to the story event were there? I’m excited to see how this turns out.

  7. The Hammer Cup 2017 Short Story event has received 4 stories from 3 authors.

I will be releasing the PDF in the next few days.

    Thanks to everybody who entered.
