  1. Maybe?

Single short map. Good design. Fairly tough. Not much ammo. You must fight at close quarters and take damage to get through.

    Maybe?

This must have been one of the first HL1 Custom mods/maps I ever played. My records tell me that I purchased this on disc with others from a UK retail chain known has “Works” which sells cut price books and other stuff.

The only comment I made then was that it was “Good but Short’. See piledriver comments above.

Aside from being ridiculously unfair, Sepulcher also manages to be a downright bland, short, and pointless level.

Sepulcher would be a half decent level by today’s Half-Life-SP standards had it not been for the incredible degree of difficulty. Consider the first fight, for instance. You have a crowbar. You’re against 3 marines that have a terrain advantage, and while fighting the second and third marines, you have to worry about two turrets. Not my idea of fun.

The mentioned fight is just barely beatable, but for me that came after 4 or 5 deaths, and requires perfect timing and planning. Even in the easy setting, I wouldn’t bet on yourself passing this level without dying many times. After the frustrating first fight things do become a bit more reasonable, but you’ll still need to be a real sharp-shooter and use that crowbar whenever possible if you wish to have bullets when they become necessary.

The quality of Sepulcher spells “beginner” as the design, although not ugly, was very unoriginal, themeless, and lacklustre. The layout was incredibly simple and short. There’s absolutely no atmosphere with this map either. Nothing is worth being as frustrated as I was with this level, and certainly not something of this quality.

Here’s what you do if you still want to download this: fire it up, play through the first fight in hard mode, and see much hair you can pull out of your own head when you die for the gazillionth time. Sure is funner than trying to beat this map.

  4. Think Twice

Sepulcher is short, bland and immensely challenging. You start out with a crowbar, an HEV suit and nothing else. After the standard fare of taking on a couple of headcrabs to begin with, you are then tasked with taking down 3 HECU grunts and 2 turrets… with a crowbar.

You can take out the first grunt without the others noticing at the cost of most of your HP. I was left with a grand total of 5. You will also earn yourself 25 mp5 rounds and and handful of grenades. These are your ticket into the building without having to go head to head with the other grunts and the turrets.

After that however, it’s all about ammo conservation. There are zero ammo dumps in this map. Same goes for healthkits and batteries. Don’t bother smashing all those crates. They’re empty. There is however, a single health charger before an onslaught of houndeyes, vorts and three alien grunts. My advice would be to take on the houndeyes with the crowbar, gun down the vorts and then use your remaining HP to run past the grunts. You cannot win this fight on Hard.

Not particularly interesting to look at and simply unfair on the higher difficulty settings, I would say Think Twice, and it only gets that because I remember playing this back when I was 12 or 13 years old ( I guarantee I cheated )

  5. Think Twice

Well, I had to make a perfect run from the first grunt to the end lol to be able to make it on hard.
If the run is not perfect you’re doomed. With remaining 10HP and after medical station, only 35HP. What is this? Health? There’s no health in this mod on Hard. And for the first Grunt, maybe if you try to kill him 30-50 times, maybe you get 30 HP left, and after Health Station it would make 55 HP left. Not bad to have more room against alien grunts. But the problem is the terrain where alien grunts are, it’s ondulated like a golf field. That’s crap.
