Work your way from the train station to a huge Combine Facility and don’t leave until you have destroyed it!
Legacy was released as part of a pirate/illegal Half-Life 2 copy. I was supplied the links by Vicpas and the files were downloaded. They were then converted into a regular mod by andyb. Huge thanks go to both of them. To my knowlegde PlanetPhillip.com is the only website to have released this mod.

This is definitely not the best mod you will play this year. It’s bland in places and the overwhelming numbers of Combine soldiers at the end forced me into god mode, which I hate having to do and that was on EASY difficulty.
I included the image of me dead becasue the Metrocops can’t be run over. You hit them like a solid wall! The mod also lacks clear design and a few times I wondered which way I should go.
SPOILERS BELOW
Right at the end, do not jump into the tube leading down from the central mound. You get stuck and have to reload. This is a perfect example of problems with the design. Why have a tube large enough for the player to fit into if all you need to do is drop a grenade down there?
There is a point near the beginning that highlights the lack of quality, where the player needs to jump on some crates to get over a wall. The problem is that the Combine’s grenades destroy the boxes even if they explode on the other side of the wall. To my knowledge there is no other way around or over the wall. If they boxes are destroyed you have to reload.
Many areas are under detailed and lack that sparkle. They don’t even look particularly great.
I suppose the best aprt was the multi-level section with the huge Combine base. The problem was that you go up many floors in an elevator and then have to climb some strangely proportioned stairs.
It’s little things like that that spoiled it for me. It contains the metro zombies, which I now realize are available from somewhere because initially I thought they were made for just one mod. It also features new skins for most of the weapons.
There was no particular part of the mod that excited me. The screenshots and panoramic give a good guide as to what to expect.
At one point I was hoping to run along the planks and other areas shown in image 34 but that didn’t happen.
The mod is pretty stable but crashed twice in different places on the last map.
I almost used the Think Twice recommendation image but feel that if the screenshots interest you and you have some time it’s possible you may enjoy it, although I doubt it. I was glad to finish it.
I apologies for what seems to be just random sentences but I can’t seem to formulate a well-constructed review. Perhaps the review is a subconscious representation of the mod itself! It lacks detail land forethought.

FYI,
This is the message I get after I DL”d and unRAR”d from “FileFront” Haven’t tried the “FileCloud” acct it being soooo slooow!! 🙁 I tried it twice with the same results!
FileFront link temporarily removed until I upload a new file. The MD5 hash for the Filecloud file is the same as the file on my HDD, so I will assume that it is ok unless somebody comments.
I DL’d the file from “FileCloud” and as slow as it is, it turned out ok!! Try it later after I have my coffee!! 🙂
UnRar’s & works fine!! Thanks andyb!
I played it through and it was “ok’. It’s not obvious just what you’re supposed to do sometimes, not like a puzzle, or maybe a puzzle but you don’t know it’s a puzzle and it’not really a puzzle anyway. Get my drift?
The most annoying thing for me was the armoured car garage, you kill ’em at one end of the garage, then kill ’em at t’other end, then the first lot re-appear and you kill ’em again. Then the second lot re-appear and you’ve to kill them again. Just a bit daft — I switched “notarget” on and killed ’em all that way.
And I never would have figured the end out , but for a post on here.
Still, if you like half-life you’ll probably like this, a little.
Phil
On the good side it’s reasonably long, but on the bad side it has too many enemies and they respawn which for me is a big no-no.
I had a look at the Hammer editor the other day and realising how much work goes into creating even the simplest maps makes me realise that this mod has involved a great deal of effort. The section where you have to swim past a Strider and fight off manhacks is really nice and atmospheric. However, some of the other sections are rather bland and featureless, which doesn’t help with immersion. Overall I’d give it three stars.
I wish they had made the 3 series Beemer driveable 🙁
lame it doesent have custom models working they look like the regular hl2 models bot the new ones
Pretty hard. The first barricade kept me busy a while. I had to GOD out once (end of canal). Way too many manhackers. Further on, some squad help would have been a nice addition for strategy, given a bit more complicated map.
Still, I enjoy it. I’m not thru yet. I have to figure out how to deal with the AG in the sewers without ammo left. I feel i’ll play this one several times before I get thru unharmed.
Everybody has an opinion, I like it. I like huge maps with a lot of sightseeing.
A solid mod with a few great scenarios, and a few points where you’re gonna feel totally lost. I particularly disliked the continual presence of ceiling turrets in the citadel, but overall it was enjoyable. Not awesome, just good.
Ok-I’m stuck and have no idea where to go. I made it inside the base and climbed up on the small ladder to throw a switch to turn the panel light green. Now what? I hop on the outside elevator that goes up and down on it’s own but can’t see any where to go or what the next move is supposed to be.
OK-Never mind-I’m done. I don’t know why I flipped that switch as I never figured out what it was for or why the inside fighting was really needed when all I had to do to end it was-SPOILER-SPOILER–drop the nade down the hole.-Parts of this was fun but like everyone has said-way too many overwhelming odds. I can’t see how anyone could possibly beat this without cheating at least on adding ammo. If you make it without resorting to God mode in at least one area, your an ace! It had no bugs for me but was just hard to figure out alot. Not enough clues as to which way to go next. Alot of work went into this, just wish it was made more player friendly-less enemies and better direction clues.

Who was the original author on this?
I don’t know. Can anybody tell me?
Nothing in the original files to show who it was and the credits I believe are just standard hl credits. So I have no idea.
A couple points after reading the above posts
********** SPOILERS *******************
— As far as the combine destroying the boxes in Post #1; you can take a crate from the warehouse, put it on the tank, and get over the baricade
— Post #14; the switch opens the top of the tube you drop the grenade into
I played in on ‘difficult” and found it impossible to complete without cheating which really took the fun out of the mod. Up until map #10 it was fairly enjoyable although very difficult.
Personally….. not good! Better than nothing, but not good…
Well, now I don’t feel so bad seeing all the other posts about using cheats and getting lost, and I hereby officially join that group 🙂
I don’t particularly like just endless indoor hallways and feeling claustrophobic, so it was good in some parts in the sense that it was nice and big and you got a fair bit of outdoor stuff. The combat was a bit overwhelming at points and I offer my congo-rats to the person that beat this mod without using one cheat.
I had to quit after I climbed up a tube and froze in place at the top of the ladder after loading.
Too bad really. I don’t just like to give up on a mod. But truthfully, I was actually glad just to get out of there after that.
Props for all the work that went into building it though.
Phillip, the link for this mod appears to be broken because Filecloud has shut down. Does anyone know some other download location? Thanks, Phillip for all the work you invested into this site!
I’ll correct the link very soon. I am in the middle of something atm
I have updated the post to include 2 links.
I loved this mod. I really enjoy challenging fights that you know you can win if you just persevere with trying different strategies. I like to take my time, think about things, reload and try again until it’s as good as it’s going to get. I managed to play right through on Medium difficulty, and never used any cheats (and I’m 60 years old in 2 months :).
Philip mentioned the difficulty in killing the metrocops in the initial barricade melee. That’s quite true – you have to use Turbo boost or you just grind to a halt and it’s killing floor time, because the initial fire is fierce, and the damage on Medium intense. I don’t know if this mod is possible on Difficult – I would like to see someone try.
There are many, many places where most obvious strategies fail and only one or two succeed. It would take too long to write these all down, but it sure is fun (for someone like myself) to figure them out.
Unfortunately, I used the FileFront file and as such some objects do not render but are replaced by large ERROR letters in red; this occurs chiefly at the beginning (outside the train station) and at the end (the central object).
For this reason I had to come here to find a way to finish off the mod. I suppose I have to stand on the topmost landing and lob a grenade into an error message. LOL. What an anticlimax.
Anyway, this site’s as usual paid off in spades. Thanks Philip mate, you have a good thing going here.
I’m lobbing grenades onto the central object on top of the “Alyx cube” from the topmost balcony, and I can’t get anything to happen. I would hate to slow-download this thing off FileCloud and start again. Perhaps I need to try and jump onto the Alyx cube? Or perhaps this hole is the one up top? With the errors, the central tube visible in the screenshots- isn’t. If it’s a beam, the Alyx cube might be a good guess. If it’s a solid tube (I have no way of knowing) then I guess I have to go back up top with the elevator, but that entails a whole scad of new grunts to deal with and I already tried jumping up on the error up there with no effect. Maybe that’s because it’s an error.
Anyway, any help appreciated.
Andrew, dowloading it from Filecloud won’t help at all, partly becasue Filecloud is now dead! What you need to do is go the centre piece (See image 50) and drop a grenade down the center hole. If there is no hole then I think you need to go down one of the corridors and press a button. I can’t remember exactly becasue it’s been a while since I played it. Good luck!
You need to go down a corridor to the end then work your way down a couple levels to a switch. Then get back topside and drop the grenade where Phillip said.
Thanks guys.I already hit the switch, and I already went back topside to the transparent platform featured in Image 50, and I already tried lobbing grenades down into what appears as a central error object while standing next to it. Is this thing supposed to be climbable? – so I can get on top and simply drop a grenade down a hole?
I suspect, as I mentioned, that this won’t work because – well, it’s an error object. It doesn’t help that there are tons of grunts coming at you while this is attempted either.
So is this “known good” file to be found at one of the two links posted up top here?
All done. It was a climb and a drop using a ramp invisible to me.
Hmm sounds like your missing a model/ or something.Check your console and see if it shows a missing mdl or something.I packed it all to work as best I could as it isn’t my mod and dind’t wanna get russian mafia mad that people wont buy thier cd’s 🙂 when they can get the mod free. All files that relate to the mod are in there in the pack you got.
First of all, Thank you for all of the great mods and maps that you have here. This Legacy file is corrupt, I’ve downloaded it twice from file front and once form the planetphillip server, both have the same crc error, ( CRC failed in Legacy\materials\stone\stonewall025a.vtf. The file is corrupt
Ep2\hl2-ep1-sp-legacy-mod.rar: Unexpected end of archive). please fix when you have the time. thank you.
Try now. It’s missing stuff but both my local copies were broken too. I’ll try and get a better copy uploaded.
Thanks, It extracted ok, I’ll play it and see how it goes. Thanks again.
A pretty interesting mod but needed a little more scenario. The mapping is risky in the beginning but becomes quite good on the last map, except missing models. Quite hard in some places, the soldiers often come with ten buds.
Overall pleasant enough but do not expect too much.
10 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
