June 2017 General Chat

2nd June 2017

What a start to June!
As you probably saw, the site was down for all of yesterday and for that I apologise. I want to make it clear that it was NOT Nodecraft’s fault and I fully support them. I will be moving hosts very soon and will explain properly soon.

I hope to start livestreaming again soon, maybe even this weekend and I am dying to get back to mapping.

I think the Steam Summer sale starts soon, so I’ll no doubt be buying some games for my collection.

What plans do you have for June?

What is this post?

Each month I create a “General Chat” post for readers to post whatever they want within the limits of being a family-friendly website.

Please don’t post reviews, questions or comments about maps and mods listed on the site – post them on the respective post – all those comments will be deleted. I do this to ensure that when a reader visits a map or mod page, all the information is in one place.

About this Month’s Image

Back in June 2014, I started to use a poster from a classic Sci-Fi movie as the background for the post image.
Starting in June 2016, I started to use images taken from old FPS games.
And for 2017, I started using images from sci-fi books, but from this point forward I will just use a random image from a mod to reduce the time it takes to make the post.

Your task, should you wish to accept it, is to guess the mod. It may or MAY NOT have been released yet – DUN DUN DUH!

  1. Plans for June? Well something like this:

    – Got a week off after today and it looks to be the wettest week of the year… Go me!
    – In light of this, I imagine I’ll be playing a ridiculous amount of PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds
    – I will also be doing my utmost to make some meaningful progress on The Core
    – E3 in a couple of weeks. Nothing I’m particularly looking forward too at the moment, but maybe something will catch my eye.

The image this month? Well, it’s Minimalismville, obviously. 😛

  2. Noticed that… Glad to see the site back up and running.

Offtopic: I even watched some of Phillip streams for the first time including his mapping tutorial factory vids. (what I call em) Kinda nice vids. How ever I feel that you @Urby or any other mapper should give that poor soul some input about that. Should I ever be online while he is streaming on twitch I will gladly aid him with his little map. Seeing how he isn’t really operating on the scale level recommended or not being aware why certain fences make use of the clip texture makes me sad. 🙁

@Phillip: The red fences in your last vid: Don’t make em func_wall. Let em appear as regular textures where players can walk through em. The clip texture brush is there that you can’t walk through em as player but you can fire through em npcs included. That’s why you had em in the first place but apparently you didn’t know why.

    1. I’m not sure which one of his practice sessions you watched, but in one of his latest ones I actually gave that exact same advice regarding railings. 😛

    2. Unq

His teacher is of questionable quality and doubtful value

      1. Even the greatest teacher can’t teach a dog to map.

  3. Maybe it’s just me but in the upper-right corner of the website instead of “Hi, [username]” it appears “Hi, [userinfo field=”nickname”] [userinfo field=”avatar” size=”25″]”.

    Any idea what’s causing that?

  4. In June, I am continuing to work on a web development project in a “small” team of 13 guys. We have to talk to the clients and make sure they are happy with our progress over the past 4 months. (Here’s hoping)

I am also on a mapping team for the popular game “CS:GO” and our map will be released in the later stages of the month.

And I am looking forward to Phillips level design live-streams as they are really relaxing to watch (?).

Oh and E3, but I always have low expectations so I am easily “Wowed”.

The mod in the picture is MinimalismVille and the map is Cuboid by TurretCube!

Mapping for CS:Go? The shame Dolmo, the shame…. 😉

      1. Agreed, especially mentioning it on here of all places. Maybe I should include a filter like I do with swear words.

  5. Only one plan for June:

Try not to fail my math test.

  6. JamaicanDave

Well, I’ve been bitten by the mapping bug again and am hoping to make significant progress on a new Black Mesa map. Other than that no real plans for June, except perhaps looking forward to a holiday in July.

  7. hyped for Planetphillip’s mod

    1. I suggest you un-hype yourself as it will almost certainly suck.

  8. Passerby

I’m not sure if this is the place to leave it, but here’s a code for a free action/horror game called Alan Wake’s American Nightmare on GOG.com. The code expires on June 27. Once redeemed, though, the game is available permanently.

    https://www.gog.com/redeem/CCQ3B726D5F35586GZ

I received it as part of the Summer Sale giveaway for $10 minimum purchase but am not interested in this game.

    1. This is the perfect place for it. Thanks for posting it. I am assuming t’s a redeem once thing, so basically the first to test it gets it!

      1. Passerby

Yes, it can be redeemed once only.
