Hazardous Half-Quake Quatridual

1st December 2011

Hello sufferers,

This weekend sees the start of the Hazardous Half-Quake Quatridual.

Half-Quake is made by Muddasheep and he has a special way of looking at things – a sadistic way!

He enjoys tourturing players via various techniques. His mods have a visual style that has been copied but never equalled.

For each new map and mod I update, I will include the description, screenshots, TAGS and my own review. It will also have a working download.

You can subscribe to the RSS Feed or you can follow me on Twitter. Using either of these methods will allow you to recieve updates as soon as I post the latest map or mod.

The winner of the draw (see below) will get a Halfquake DVD full of Halfquake goodies (dialogue bloopers, artworks, notes), featuring a unique drawing by Muddasheep.

The top reviewers (as in the reviewers who post all the reviews) will be entered into a draw to win a Half-Quake DVD. Huge thanks to Muddasheep for agreeing to create another one.

If you don’t know what the DVD is, please take a look at William’s excellent piece about it.

  1. Hi Phillip.

As you caught me playing Half-Quake a while ago you know how I feel about it. I’m guessing this is going to be a Marmite situation (as I’m not sure which countries it’s available in, Marmite is a yeast extract spread which in the UK, people love or hate it http://www.marmite.com/).

I’ll try to play them through again (and try to finish them) just to be in the spirit of the event.

    1. I have always considered Half-Quake to be a love or hate mod. I know many people that love it, as well as many that hate it. I loved it personally, but during a terrible mod in the 100SDoN (can’t remember which one) another reviewer did call me a masochist… not sure if there is a link between the two.

Before I entered this page I was wondering how long it would take before someone mentioned Marmite. Wasn’t very long.

  2. As a huge fan of the Half-Quake series, I was pleased by this idea for a weekend. Needless to say that I will be taking part in it and it has come at a perfect time for me because I have nothing of much importance to do with the next 2 weeks or so. This should be fun.

EDIT: I just noticed something called Half-Quake: Amen: The Present, is that an expansion from Amen or something? Can’t say I have ever played it.

I’m not sure if it’s bonus content added later or what, but you can play it from the menu in Halfquake Amen by clicking “recieve the present [sic].” If it doesn’t appear, then you need to download a more recent version of Halfquake Amen to play it.

      1. Yes, it is bonus content, added about a year later, in fact on the first anniversary I think. Whilst it wasn’t made by Muddasheep, her did help, so it seems only right that it is added here.

I am both dreading and looking forward to playing these again. Actually, I’ve never played The Present or Sunrise.

Unfortunately I’ll be busy this weekend and am not on my main computer so I’ll have to catch up with reviews a day or two late. Good idea, Phillip, hope to see more mini-events like this one, a much more manageable chunk than 100 days in a row!

    1. a much more manageable chunk than 100 days in a row

      Damn Straight!

  4. I forgot to add, that just like the 100SDoN, the top reviewers (as in the reviewers who post all the reviews) will be entered into a draw to win a Half-Quake DVD.

Huge thanks to Muddasheep for agreeing to create another one.

If you don’t know what the DVD is, please take a look at WIlliam’s excellent piece about it.

Hey Phillip, just a fast thech question, the mods could be installed in steam right??

    1. Yes, although don’t download the second one, until tomorrow. I need to update the file.

      1. Hec

OK yep, so is HL Quake Amen and the Present, 2 mods appart right, or those ar 2 in 1??

        1. MS

The Present is part of Halfquake Amen, it’s basically a little fan-made add-on. You can start The Present directly from HQA’s menu by clicking “receive the present”.

If you’re playing HQA using the old non-Steam Half-Life, go to the console and type “map hq2_present”.

          1. Hec

Oh OK many thanks for the information, i’ll do that actually I think i’ve never played the present.

I’ve alredy play the first one of all, and I really liked it

        2. Okay, you can download HL Quake Amen and the Present now. The Present is an addon for Amen and is included in the file.

          1. Uhh, no we can’t. The download link doesn’t seem to work.

          2. Cyo

            woops, wrong spot.

          3. Cyo

HQ2: Half-Quake Amen and Present link does not work for me. Using Firefox 8.0 btw.

            1. I’m not sure what to suggest. I have tested it three times. Have you refreshed the page, just in case?

  6. Well I played them all … my ears are now burning like nuclear warheads , my mind is so sadistic, and my humor side only says that colorblind people will enjoy it ,which is also sadistic. So it did its job well.
    Now onto the main thing.

During the second part (Amen) , I have to say that the chapter Ambience really came closest to what you can describe as a perfect ambiental structure.
I love the way that all 3 of the mods develop their stories (also the mainmenus)
I have to give a big + to the boss in the last mod , since it was not only the last , but also the best boss I seen so far in any HL1 or 2 mod line.

For the worst I would only whine that I was dying like hell , but it was the point of the mod to make me ragequit , and I did it only 1 time … befor doing it after the end of every level.

So overall I would give this pack a 9/10.
Its a perfecet game but its hard to do it all in one sitting.
I would definately play it again during a stormy night.

  7. You bet your *** (not sure if anyone would get offended) I’m in. Half-Quake is awesome.

  8. Cyo

Will there be separate pages for these? I really do hope so, I enjoyed the first, and from the looks of it, the others are even better.

    1. Yes, separate pages for each.

  9. 2muchvideogames

Well, I’m sure you all will have the… patience… to play thru all the half quake mods. Quite fun.
