basically you start off in a 2 story fort with some ammo boxes, health and shield recharge points, and some chums. you get a moment to get into position, then the onslaught begins. starts with troops, manhacks and drones, other units show up if you survive long enough. your buddies and the recharge points don’t replenish, so it’s a battle of attrition.

  2. 3D Gamers Edge

Combine Onslaught places you and your fellow rebel alliance mates in a house filled with crates of ammo. Within seconds, a massive onslaught of Combine soldiers take to the field surrounding the house and begin their assault. this small level is fairly clever and fun for a little while before the novelty of it wears off. as far as I can tell, there is no end to the onslaught.

No amount of mayhem on my part was able to gain me victory. I suppose I should go back and godmode, or play on easy just to see if it ever ends. on normal skill, all of my team members would eventually die and my health and ammo would be running low when I was finally overwhelmed.

This is a fun little diversion, and well enough designed that the challenge is high, but not frustrating. Give it a go if you want to fill ten or fifteen minutes of your day with a good fight against an unrelenting combine attack. however, if it is a storyline or high quality gameplay experience you seek, look elsewhere.

    Rating: 70/100
Good: Very challenging, good action and a clever idea
    Bad: Novelty wears off quickly

The link on RTSL is broken but I found this map on gamebanana. It’s a base defense map with allies, bunch of weapons and infinite amount of supplies. Level design is average. It’s a building with two floors surrounded by hills. Enemies spawning out of horizon and slowly making their way to the house. It was fun to slaughter for first 10 min but then it just became boring. After another 10 min I quir playing this map. I don’t know if this map is endless or progressing. I spent 20 min shooting regular combine troops which quickly became boring.

  4. Maybe?

This map is alright. I really didn’t think much of this map, which could be a good thing. This map has both positives and negatives. I only played for about 12 minutes before I stopped. The onslaught never happened for me. I don’t know why. Maybe you can get it to work?

    Score Sheet

Usage of space and world brushes: 3/10
You start in a brick building. surrounded by jagged displacements. That’s it.

    Visuals 3/10
A few cars to look at along with some dead grass and dead trees.

    Gameplay: 0/10
I tried to figure out why it never started for me, but anything short of recompiling would be too much for this map. I’ll pass on the never ending waves of combine. Would’ve been kinda cool if it worked.

    Final Score: 6/30 – 20%

Final Comments: Play it if you want to, the screenshots don’t lie.
