Moving Domains

28th November 2014

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

After considerable thought, I have decided to move the site to a new domain.

I am doing this to present the site as more than just one person’s blog.

Over time, there may be other small but important changes, for example, taking on staff for specific tasks or roles.

I don’t have an exact date for the change over, but I am planning towards 2nd January 2015, but it may be a little later. This depends on other people and I will just have to wait.

When the time comes, you will automatically be redirected to the new domain.

The new domain is RUNTHINKSHOOTLIVE.com. This domain currently hosts the development theme.

If you are interested in providing feedback on the new theme, please email me. I will add you to the list and send emails about specific aspects of the site I am working on.

Please don’t visit the site and send me an email with all the things you don’t like. I it is a work in progress. Many things you might not like might not be in the final version.

Feel free to try the site, but know that it’s just a development site and no comments will be kept – please continue to use the PP site.

This theme has better navigation and less options. For example, the Personalizer is no longer needed as the new archive pages have an incredible live search/filter that will blow your mind.

If you have any questions about the change, please feel free to ask.

  1. That’s some big news. I will check it out!

  2. Sounds like a smart move and staff will be a great bonus. Through out the years I have come to enjoy and visit Planet Phillip at least weekly.
I guess the new name will take in time. Before long RTSL will become the new household name around here and worldwide.
Again best of luck on the switch over Phillip.

Looks very good, and its easier to find mods that fit your HL part…

  4. “Dramatic description that makes you want to play the mod”
    I loled for a good 5 seconds.

    1. But, come on, you WANTED to play that mod, didn’t you?

Phillip, sounds like a smart move for the future branding of what you want to accomplish here — good luck!

Cool, I’m glad that the direction is ‘moar!!’ 😀

This is actually awesome news, especially given previous PP announcements (e.g. “PP is down and won’t be coming back up” from a couple years ago). Given the site’s history, I was pretty worried, but this is great.

I’m the “primary” on one or two community-driven projects, and I know first-hand how hard it is to keep things going without any help (even if you somehow get funding). If the site takes off, it will have a lot more longevity than a site that depends on the continued interest of one person.

The sole concern that I have is about the curation aspect of the site. This is the one thing that made PP better than sites like moddb (which is still great, don’t get me wrong). The fact that a mod was on PP meant that it was, if not great, then at least finished enough and worthy of playing. I’m curious how this is going to be translated into a site that’s not based on one person’s preferences.

But, whatever. I still think that this is the right direction to go, and I’m glad PP is going that way. Looking forward to the new site when it’s ready to go live.

    1. especially given previous PP announcements

I don’t feel that’s a fair characterisation. You used the plural and that abberation was a one-time event, caused by a thief from ModDB.

If the site takes off, it will have a lot more longevity than a site that depends on the continued interest of one person.

I’m not sure what you mean by “takes off” but longevity is overrated. I feel it’s better to have a great site for a shorter period of time than a site that lasts for years but doesn’t provide a great service.

I’m curious how this is going to be translated into a site that’s not based on one person’s preferences.

I have only said that there “may be” changes. Even if people take on specific roles, it won’t change the core site. It would be for things like In Development Mods or other content. I will continue to add the maps and mods and review each and every release.

Please forgive me if I sound as though I am arguing with you, it’s not my intention and I know you support the site.

If you ask me, this is a pretty good move. I like the new site’s layout and design, and also I like the idea of not having the site’s name revolve around just one person anymore. Although only one problem with the name: it MIGHT be easy to mix the words up and not be able to remember the site’s domain name correctly? (“Was it thinkrunshootlive? Shootliverunthink??”) Although that just might be nitpicking on my part. (We have things like Google to correct ourselves now. Heh.) Overall, I love the new site. Can’t wait for it to go live for everyone, coming the day after New Years’ Day! (Or later! (Valve time!))
