July 2017 General Chat

1st July 2017

What a start to July! Yes, I know said that last month, but today sees BridgeVille released.

Last month, I had some issues with hosting but I am now on Stage 1 of my update. I am currently on a temporary host, which seem okay, but it’s only temporary because I will be moving over to dedicated hosting very soon.

As you probably saw, I’ll be livestreaming later today and tomorrow too. Full details HERE.

Now, you may have also seen my tweets this week talking about the Steam Summer Sale. Well, I bought 11 games for a total cost of 21 Euros. I also transferred about 7 games from my Gift section to my Library. That’s a LOT of games I gotta play. What about you? DId you spend more money than you expected?

What plans do you have for July?

What is this post?

Each month I create a “General Chat” post for readers to post whatever they want within the limits of being a family-friendly website.

Please don’t post reviews, questions or comments about maps and mods listed on the site – post them on the respective post – all those comments will be deleted. I do this to ensure that when a reader visits a map or mod page, all the information is in one place.

About this Month’s Image

Back in June 2014, I started to use a poster from a classic Sci-Fi movie as the background for the post image.
Starting in June 2016, I started to use images taken from old FPS games.
And for 2017, I started using images from sci-fi books, but from this point forward I will just use a random image from a mod or game to reduce the time it takes to make the post.

Your task, should you wish to accept it, is to guess the mod or game. It may or MAY NOT have been released yet – DUN DUN DUH!

  1. In case you missed it, I’m running a little silly giveaway. Details here: https://twitter.com/PlanetPhillip/status/878885012275441664

  2. GMDX, a (free) remake/modification for Deus Ex that has been in development since 2013, is releasing sometime today, going through DX1 all over again is bound to keep me occupied for the weekend!

As for more recent releases, with some deliberation I’ve bought “Prey”, similar to Deus Ex in that it’s a first person RPG, I’m hoping it will have been worth the $40.

I recognize that header from “The Ball”, an indie puzzle game (mostly known as part of the Portal 2 PotatoFoolsDay ARG).

    1. GMDX is coming out this weekend? Damn, thanks for the heads up. I’ve been wanting the finish DX Revision and then start DX Nihilum, but I always get lost in S.TA.L.K.E.R. mods.
Don’t know where I’ll find space for GMDX…

And now BridgeVille also came out and it (fortunately) has a lot of entries, so it will take some time to get through.

  3. This month I’ll be busy participating to a Shadertoy contest, which happens between the 11 and 28. Last year I was in the fourth position, so I hope I’ll be in the podium this time. Hopefully there won’t be any THC challenge during this period.
Game is The Ball by Tripwire, super cool game BTW.

    1. There will be a 50-Hour Mapping Challenge next weekend though.

    Game – The Ball
    Developer – Teotl
    Publisher – Tripwire Interactive

  5. For me this Summer Sale was more about tiny old games. My highlights were the Portal games which were ridiculously cheap (as with the rest of Valve’s games :O). I now no longer need my pirated versions.

I want to save money for Black Mesa when they release Xen.

  6. Hello, just have a couple of things to say today. Maptap is no longer maptap, how come we dont straighten that out? Futhermore, I downloaded guage, dont work for me. I do use won version, steam blows, wont use it. Perhaps you could shed some light on the guage problem? Have a great weekend all!

EDIT – This comment was moved from a mod post to this post – Phillip

    1. Yes, you are right, I’ll fix the “MapTap” text in the posts when I get back from holiday.

I can’t say why Gauge doesn’t work for you as you provide no details. The chances are it’s because Gauge only works with Steam.

      1. Thanks Phil, could not find where to post this, now i know. As far as gauge goes, yep, I use won, so it wont work for me. Its o.k. I always do a manual install anyhow. Have a good weekend!
