Anyone play it yet? I would but I’ve been busy. I’m eager to know if it’s worthy!

  2. If I remember right average design, too challenging and really nothing special

If there was one request I could have, it would be to fix the whole trip wired part with the turrets. That in itself was overkill. Other than that I found the map set to be very easy and of average map design.

Also, make those blue pools actually heal like in actual Xen. It’s hard to survive on ONE medkit.

I played this game some years back and made the following bullet points:

Good game, Mostly Xen, Gameplay well balanced,
Good combat, Lots of jumps and aliens.

this is going to sound silly. but, how do you load it. I put it in the hl file natta, I took the entire file and put it in the maps but the ~ wont load map hl1-sp-death-power.
    thanks

nope, tryed putting just the files in the maps folder, tryed putting them in half life file, tryed them in the file that was extracted in both places. the ~ with map d=p just comes up d=p not found on server. any ideas?

  8. files go into half-life/valve/maps
start half life and enter map d=p
I just tested it and it works.

Well what do you know death does equal power. hehe.
thanks andy b and goddess alyeria. my mistake was I was putting it in the halflife maps folder not halflife valve maps. it worked and was about a 30min murdurous spree. thanks again everyone for your help. I havent had to much experience with maps. hopeing the author will build on it and have a part two. maybe a escape and have to retrive something cool.

From what I can tell, this is the first released map by Daniel Broder (aka Air Dan). The title, while catchy, has nothing to do with the episode – your mission is a simple rescue operation, albeit in Xen. This is a decent map compared to the majority of first maps out there, but it still leaves quite a bit to be desired.

You start out on Earth in the tiny first map, spending just enough time there to get an HEV and arm yourself before teleporting to Xen. From then on, Death=Power is basically a test of jumping skills, in low gravity and sometimes requiring the long jump unit. There is some combat mixed in, but nothing too difficult. The most challenging part is when you reach the grunts at the end who are guarding the captured scientist, but it’s tough because it is in a really tight area, not because of enemy placement.

The design of Death=Power is overall a real letdown. Though there were a couple of areas that really looked like they belonged in Xen, for the most part the architecture is very basic and not very convincing, and the lighting could really use some work. Lord only knows why the military decided to hold a captive in a tiny base on a floating island on Xen, but hey, you never know, right? Right? Oh, and I forgot to mention that the r_speeds peak at well over 1000, just to make the jumping puzzles that much more frustrating.

The author does have some promise for future maps in my opinion. There is a sequence at the end that mimics one in Half-Life and it is done rather well. And some of the outdoor areas look very Xen-like, although in other spots it looks like the author just went nuts with the Xen textures and entities (hairs, spores, etc.) – not to mention the pools that look just like HL’s healing pools but won’t heal you no matter how long you stand there. Boy that annoys me. I guess they aren’t healing pools cause they don’t play that neat “healing sound,” huh?

Death=Power is probably one you should pass on, unless you live for jumping around in Xen. If the author develops his skills, particularly in architecture and gameflow, hopefully he can create a believable and engaging level in the future.
