ElevatorVille: The Second 6×10 Mapping Competition

1st June 2012

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

This competition is being kindly sponsored by SteamContests.Com.

The prize, in addition to the points, is $25 US Dollars (paid via PayPal) plus two random Steam games.

For this competition I want you to create puzzles to allow an elevator to work or open.

To enter, you need a minimum of 3 floors. The objective is to create some sort of puzzle to get the elevator up or down to the next floor.

You can have “press the right buttons”, combat, power supply issues, shoot something; anything to get the elevator working.

Each floor can be completely different from the others. They don’t have to have any visual connection with each other. They can be abstract, funky, Combine-esque, Ravenholm, Sixties London (if you wanna make the textures and models); the choice is yours.

The winner will be the map that was most fun to play and looked good.

As usual, if you have any questions, please use the comments system below or email me directly: [email protected].

There are NO additional rules that apply to this competition – but make sure you READ the main rules!

Visit the 6×10 Mapping Competition Series homepage for full details of the event and the rules.

Now if only I could map…

Sounds like this could be a good one.

I’m a bit confused on the 3 floors restriction. Is this 3 playable, functional floors, or is it sufficient to suggest a floor without being able to go there?

    1. Fair point. It’s three puzzles/working elevators leading to three new floors (not including the floor you start with).

      1. So it’s one starting floor and 3 floors above that? And at each floor you need to complete some puzzle to get to the next?

        1. Yep. Although you can make more floors/elevator puzzles if you want to.

Actually, now I’m more confused. So an elevator must get stuck at least 3 times on 3 different (though not necessarily sequential) floors for 3 different reasons?

        1. It would be like this:

          Third floor
          Second floor
          First floor
          Starting floor

So, its at least 4 floors counting the starting one.

        2. I need three elevator puzzles. They can lead to any floor in any direction. They can lead up and down back to the previous floor if you wish.

Cool, this reminds me again of the elevator in Black Forest? With the vortigaunts sweeping and playing chess 😛

  4. Noface/GeorgeC

Do you have to use the same elevator for each floor? Does the elevator have to be a conventional elevator?

    1. No, you can use ANY style of elevator for any floor.

  5. Aaron

be creative with the elevator on each floor so it is not the same. have fun guys

  6. 2muchvideogames

is this source only? is HL1 maps alright?

EDIT: nevermind, looks like it’s EP2 only. I think that should be listed in the post description

    1. It’s in the rules, which you should be reading anyway.

  7. So it does NOT have to be the same elevator? I could make a puzzle, ride the elevator up one floor and across the room is another elevator and I need to activate that?

Has the time for sending maps expired already? You say June 11 but that can vary depending timezones. How many participants till now? I’m kind of excited 😀

    1. Yes. On the main 6×10 page, I give the exact time, which is 6pm GMT, so that everybody knows what it should be in their timezone. Expect a release this weekend.

  9. This is really exiting. I’m pretty sure I won’t win this one, but its still awesome to see other peoples work.

Also, you are doing a great job with the site, Phil.
