I sure hope your community comes through for ya Phillip, I sure as hell would be willing to help but alas, I don’t speak Turkish. I’ll give this one a go anyways. 🙂

I’ve never seen a Turkish HL1 mod but the screenshots on their web looks great…:-D…!!!!
    Thanks to http://www.planetphillip.com …!!! ( BEST single-player gamer reviews in the Web ….!!! )

Finally got round to playing this… not good. I finished it in 25 minutes, the levels made no sense (although hopefully the as yet unfound Wall of Death 1 can explain this one), some “interesting” weapons (The axe covers half your screen!) and a a general lack of flow.

On the plus side, the music kicks ass and you do kinda get into the atmosphere, but that’s about it. Not a bad download, but not exactly a great one either.

Sorry, missed this question. Is it worth the download? Not if you have a 56k modem or under. If you have broadband, then you might as well, but anything less and it’s not worth the hour-long wait.

I did not like the mod at all. Lets say everything that was “stamped” there ,not made was just a work of emtyness. All the architecture counts to 4% ,cause it is only an open places and all the gameplay is a complete 0%,cause you got even no aim no story ,nothing.

Just running and killing among the huge areas. All the models were just very simply taken from other modifications. And the only thing of models that probably belongs to author is the gun that is also a simple one. Lets just say that in this mod you dont feel any kind of love,of a soul that usually authors are trying to give. All the music in the mod isprobably somekind of soundtrack from old movies about future and so. But all the mod I rate as the work of a fool -12!

I cannot figure this mod out. As was stated in an earlier review it’s over before it starts. I cannot even figure where or what to do. You look at the wall straight on and you see nothing, you look at it from an angle you can see some sort of a panel or standing at the end of the hall you can see an open door, but when you approach it’s closed. Not a good mod at all. Not worth the download.

Hello! What version of HL is needed to run?
I downloaded this mod, but HL terminates in 2-3 seconds when starting “hl -game thm” (showing black screen for some milliseconds)
    What could be wrong?

  11. I think it needs the latest version. It may also require Steam but I’m not sure.

  12. Heyzors

I have that problem too. With the first Wail of Death and the second one. Anyone have any solutions? (I do have newest HL and I have Steam)

  13. Gameplay & Leveldesign
Wail of Death 1 was average because the atmosphere and setting where nice and “doomed”. I found out why I were so impressed the last time: It’s a wonderful trash-atmosphere that is created by the mod. It feels like you are playing Doom in anew version and reading a Michael Moorcock-fantasy trash roman the same time. Now imagine much stronger atmosphere as in WoD1 added with decent maps, even darker ambient-music and actually some different enemys… this is WoD2!
I enjoyed this mod very much because the feeling of panic and depression it caused (as funny that may sound). Imagine that you are running trough (rather empty) big rooms where you feel small and alone, with only your “rapid-fire” handgun and faced with hordes of zombies (until now, I thought the zombies in “Are you afraid of monsters” where scary), demon-soldiers and lower demons. A short line to the lower demons: Xen-slaves have been more times retextured as they could gargle “eye-color”. But here the author decided to completely remove the eyes, and the result is real scary. Have I already mentioned the burning piles of corpses?

This mod has also greatly improved at brushwork (okay, that wasn’t that hard), so some levels especially near the end of the mod are rather nice to look, the same time the lightning also improves it’s quality. The game-flow is still the same – fluent. Mostly because you run trough the levels killing monsters, but sometimes you have to press buttons to open doors, and that is mostly linked with some sadistic mechanism to squash a few poor zombies behind glass somewhere. So at the end it’s fun anyway. A few scripted sequences work well, but they’re sadly greatly outnumbered.

    Summary
If there will ever be a sequel to Wail of Death, I’ll sure be to the fore to play it!
Wail of Death 2 is a much improved Wod1, of course there is again no story told in the game (but in the readme and the great description above), and the gameplay itself is rather boring, but the great atmosphere and the “doomed” feeling that is created around the player are good points why you should play this – if you like trash-fantasy-horror flair.

  14. A note to the installation problems:
With pre-steam Half-Life (ver. 1.1.1.0) there are no problems playing it.
You simply run the installation-routine, define “X:\Y\Half-Life\thm” as your path (where X is your hard-drive, Y your Gamefolder if you have one, otherwise it’s SIERRA or Programs or whatever you entered as you installed Half-Life) or for Wail of Death 1: “X:\Y\Half-Life\wod”. After extracting, you simply start Half-Life, choose the desired mod and play it. 🙂
That’s what I did and it worked fine.

  15. Avoid It!

Nothing interesting except some textures, models and music. But it’s still not enough to be a game.
