  1. I had a few problems with this one. Even with my new graphics card at certain points the map almost ground to a halt, which reminds me it took a LONG time to load.

I got stuck in one place and had to use noclip to escape and later made some effort to reach a place with no reward – which is quite frustrating.

Lot’s of textures and walls were misaligned and the air duct part needs some smoothing.

Ok, so you probably think I hated it, and you are wrong. I actually enjoy some of the fighting sections but I had to cheat to finish it. I lost a lot of health at the beginning and never recovered. It’s really hard to fight a Strider with only 4 health.

The last image shows Alyx but I never found her, although I didn’t look very hard.

If the author was to optimize the technical issues, leave a little more health around and adjust some minor points then I would give it an 7/10, as it is it gets 5/10.

As my school report kept repeating – Could do better.

I’ve played this already, but the experience is about the same. However, I played this again and found some nice secrets including a hidden jeep, a crossbow, and a combine helicopter part.

And also, this level can be beaten without cheats, but I don’t think the strider can (I only found 5 rpg rounds in the map and it wasn’t enough to kill it)

All in all, I think the mapper should learn a bit more about map optimization and about certain bad textures to use (one room was like a friggin strobe light as I walked through it)

    2/5 or 5/10

    So does the game 😀

    “He is Sleep”

  4. He is so asleep that you can throw a bottle, hit him in the head or one of those big boxes & he never wakes up. Hey, can someone tell me what the Vort slash Dog’s purpose is? I swear I played through this map a first time & he never appeared.

  5. Vort slash Dog’s

There’s a dog in this? I’m going to play it again and look for those secrets.

  6. It’s a cross between a Vort/Dog/Something. I think a Vort with armour. This map is kinda quirky though. Alyx is in the very last room. First time I played it, she was standing alive & the 2 combines were dead. Just finished it again, and she was dead in the floor with the two combines alive. Also, there were many times that when faced with enemies, ther were just standing around or had their backs to me until I used force & then they would engage in combat.

Ive loaded and erloaded this a number of times.Ive typed every posible combination (Icould think of) to try and start the game but to no avail. Any sugestions?
    Thanks IDM

    Promise Barney,

First off this is a hard mod, each set is very challenging and going gun-ho leads to a short life. All goodies are very sparse throughout the game so you need to think through each set. Make sure you get to the first piece of action with crow bar and gravity gun, use the two explosive barrels to good effect, don’t leave the first Combin shoot-up in the yard without finding hidden buggy car with goodies. Once you reach the room with the rocket launcher you face the problem of how to kill or get round the Strider, this I could not do without cheat, it takes 7 rockets to bring down the Strider and I can only find 5 in total. You can get 2 rockets by using the Gravity gun from the window; you can also make it across the yard to the garage with truck and grenade box if you set off with 60 plus health. Maybe the grenade supply is the secret to bring down the Strider, you can position by the garage door and throw grenades” without getting hit. I did wonder if the paint tins could be used to blind the Strider some way, however all my attempts failed to bring the Strider down.

The game has some problems but none stopping progress, it’s very easy to get physically struck and you will need to use noclip a few times, also there are a few minor stability problems even with a good video card, most of the sets are dimly light which is no help when wonder around looking for goodies. Apart from these points the set design is not bad with plenty of content and detail, however most are bounded with invisible barriers which are frustrating if like me you like to explore.

Overall the mod has a lot to offer but with a little more attention by the author and some alternative route around the Strider this would pass as a very good mod, no doubt from this example the author has talent to produce some very good work in the future.

  9. it takes 7 rockets to bring down the Strider and I can only find 5 in total.

I did it both times I played with only the 5 rockets but skill level was Easy, so it is possible with just the 5 rockets.

    Thanks, will try Easy.
